EMAIL H.NEEDLE: newsletter/trunk/keys (Reply From...)

LOL...It sounds like my mom!

Dear "Cem Gate":

You've been added to our list to recieve our newsletter. Unfortunately, we are running a few weeks behind in publishing it this month due to our efforts in documenting and researching the contents of several recent acquisitions. The Newsletter should be complete and sent out within a couple of weeks.Because of this situation, we are likely to extend our Featured Lock and Key collection for another month.

Thank you,
The Hollow Needle

I know this is really none of my business but the least thing you people could do is your proper names when requesting information from me and my store. I'll never get used to this "everyone's got an alias generation" and their lack of manners.

Phyllis Willingham
Owner, The Hollow Needle

Quoting cemgate:

I would like to receive a copy of your e-mail newsletter with details about
your Lock and Key Collection.

Thanks!
Cem Gate

Ma'am, may I have a look inside the trunk, please?

I just got a reply from the Hollow Needle. Here's the correspondence, which contains a preview of what could possibly be in the trunk.

Original letter:

Quote:
Please add me to your newsletter mailing list. The antique keys and locks featured on your website are beautiful, and I'd like more information about them.

Also, the trunk you found is amazing, even in its original, unrestored form. As an antique book and historical document collector, I'm also eagerly awaiting your report of its contents, especially since it was found in the library. I am kicking myself for not being in town when the fund raising auction was held!

Congratulations on what seems to have been a fabulous acquisition! Perhaps you will think of me if there are any true gems found. I am especially interested in mythology, legends, and local history, as well as alchemy and spell-casting (not that I would ever engage in the last two subjects, mind you; they just make for fascinating reading.)

Thank you so much for your consideration. I plan to check your website often.

Note: I did learn from Cem's letter, and signed it with my full name!

I'm so glad to hear that you are interested in our lovely items. Isn't it a fascinating collection? Oh, the stories those precious antiquities would tell, if only they could. I'm sure you'll learn more when the newsletter arrives.

And speaking of which, you have been added to our list to receive our newsletter. Unfortunately, we are running a few weeks behind in publishing it this month due to our efforts in documenting and researching the contents of several recent acquisitions. The newsletter should be completed and sent out within a couple of weeks.

Because of this situation, you'll be happy to know, we are likely to extend our Featured Lock and Key collection for another month.

Regarding the trunk, we are still going through it. But we're excited to say that it does include some important finds by a local artist. We'll let you know more soon.

Thank you,

Phyllis Willingham

Could that local artist be Wali Fard?

from http://www.aglauranj.org/library/about.html
Quote:
Tasked with "rejuvenating" the outdated contents of the library, Mrs. Dobbs began a campaign that lasted several years to augment and replace the libraries outdated volumes and included bringing in a large portion of the locally famous Wali Fard collection of books and manuscripts.

Despite rumors of strange doings at Fard's Moorish Science Ashram, the influx of money and people helped get Ong's Hat on the road to becoming a functional community again. When the Ashram suddenly and mysteriously shut down and "disappeared" a few years later, the people of Ong's Hat once again found themselves struggling to eke out an existence at the edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and Lebanon State forest.

Hi all- I am a newby here and also got an email response from Hollow
Needles. I just sent a general request for the newsletter and later
discovered that a typo in my request got a rather heated response.

I wrote on 3/7 at 9:21pm:

"Please send me your newsletter with details about our Lock and Key
Collection. Thanks"

Here is the email I received on 3/8 at 5:40pm:

"Dear Mr. ,

You may be an important person in Cooperstown, but here in Aglaura my
husband, J. Douglas Willingham, is a very important man. So you can take your "our collection" attitude and drop it right now, buster. This is MY collection, and one I've worked very hard to put together. You can take credit once you've come in and helped oil the locks and rid the keys of rust like the rest of us here in this shop.

In the meantime, although I run the risk of adding to your obviously
substantial ego, you've been added to our list to receive our
newsletter.
Unfortunately, we are runnng a few weeks behind in publishing it this
month due to our efforts in documenting and researching the contents of several recent acquisitions. The newsletter should be completed and sent out within a couple of weeks.

The actual owner and proprietor of the antique lock and key collection,

Phyllis Willingham
The Hollow Needle"

I replied at 6:20 pm on 3/8 with:

"Dear Ms.Willingham,
My sincere apologies regarding the use of "our" collection. It was a
typo and I meant to say "YOUR" collection. I can appreciate the time and
energy you must have used to collect them. I would be more than happy
to help oil and recondition the locks if the opportunity presented
itself. I am occasionally in your area visiting family.
There appear to be many old and very interesting items in your lovely
shop besides the locks and I will look forward to receiving your
newsletter.
Best regards."

Does everyone use aliases for emailing etc?

I will let you know if there is a further response

Dear Dr. Amaal,

Thank you for your interest in our books! We have had so much interest
in them recently that I am in the process of putting together a list
of what we have to offer. I will let you know when that is ready to
be sent to you.

As far as unusual clocks go, we don't have much in stock at the moment
that I can think of offhand; we do have some antique clocks, but they
are pretty much the usual: a Perivale chiming table clock, a Master
clock by National Time Recorders Ltd. Lovely and valuable, but not
unusual.

Thank you again for your letter, and please do stop by if you happen
to be in the Aglaura area!

Most cordially,

Phyllis Willingham, Owner
The Hollow Needle

Dear Hollow Needle customer:
Whew, it's been quite a month here in our lovely little town of Aglaura and in
my humble little shop as well. We've had so many new people streaming into town
that it's been quite the task to keep up with both my responsibilities as a
business owner and a prominent citizen in the local community social hierarchy.
But never let it be said that a New Jersey Willingham wasn't up to the task!
We at the Hollow Needle have a wealth of exciting news to share with you, not
the least of which is the announcement that the long-awaited Spring edition of
our newsletter is now available. In it, you will find some general information
about our shop as well descriptions and pictures of some actual items we are
currently featuring. Sure to be of interest is the page containing the first
pictures of any of the contents from the old trunk found in the Aglaura Public
Library. Talk about a true-life Treasure Chest! This old trunk is turning out
to be a very interesting adventure as we sort through and catalogue the
contents. We can also now report that we are going to be donating several of
the items from within the trunk for an upcoming Aglaura Library Fund Raising
Auction. It only seems fitting considering that's where these items came from
in the first place and it was only our good fortune that allowed us to purchase
the entire trunk.
In the next month, we will also be adding several new and very intriguing items
to our aglauranj.org webpage. Some of them will be additional items from the
old trunk that we've decided not to donate to the Library Fund Raiser. And, if
we can get the poor overloaded webmaster at the Aglaura site to ever get around
to it, we will be adding an online purchasing system to allow you to purchase
items featured on our page right over the internet.
So please go and read our Spring newsletter. You can download it in either
Microsoft word or Adobe PDF format or view it online from our webpage at:
http://www.aglauranj.org/antiques.html

Thanks for your patronage.

SPEC> The key is a match

The key in question matches designs found inside some celtic dolmans. I would assume that the dolmans are gateways to the afterlife. There is one it seems at AGP. Now who do we get to buy it since Dale's out of town?
Quote:

Dear Barbara -
Thank you for your message about our Hollow Needle Spring Newsletter.

As far as the antique key you mentioned that is featured in the
newsletter,
this is a very special and rare piece. It is a beautiful example of an
iron
hand made key, circa the late 1700's. It is complete and in excellent
condition
and has a very nicely even patination, a rare find in a key of this
age. We
believe the key is likely Celtic in origin. We acquired the key from an
estate
auction in Burlington, New Jersey a few years ago and it came with a
letter
from a supposed former owner, claiming that the key had certain strange
properties. Most notably, the previous owner claimed that the key, when
held
out in the light of a full moon at certain times of the year, glows
strangely
and seems to warm up in the hand. We, of course, have never tested
these
fantastic claims, but the colorful history certainly adds to the value
of the
item. The key comes with the former owner's handwritten letter.

Period: 17th century
Length: 4 15/8"
Price: $ 295.00
Special Price through April 2003: $249.00

Thanks again for your interest in our store.

I had similar questions but focused on the manuscript in latin. The answer from mrs Willingham:

Quote:
Dear Dr. Villardsson -

Thanks for your interest in the illuminated manuscript page from our Hollow
Needle Spring Newsletter. That particular item seems to be generating a lot of
interest from the general public and from manuscript experts and enthusiasts
such as yourself, as well.

In the interest of precluding having to answer an overwhelming amount of e-
mail, however, we are going to be posting more pictures of the manuscript page
on our webpage as soon as possible. That way, anyone interested can examine our
find without our needing to provide details and an individual reply each time.
This should allow you to translate the page as you mentioned, and we would, of
course, be very interested in any translations you come up with. As soon as we
can get the Aglaura webmaster, Sam Greene, to make the necessary changes,
you'll be able to see them. The poor man seems to be a little overwhelmed with
work these days but I'm sure my "connections" will enable me to get things done
just as soon as possible.

Thanks again for your interest in the Hollow Needle.
