Do you guys want a regional thread here for just your axons? Like I did for DC - that way you can have one list of the axons you are focussing on and perhaps be able to organize your efforts better.

I don't think we should do it for every axon, but for those cities with a LOT, this could be a big help.
If you are going to make a georgia one I'll use it.

Lincoln Axon

If anyone is looking for the Lincoln, NE Axon, check the Valentino's restraunt located on the corner OR possibly Varner Hall. I'm stuck in work all day...so GOOD LUCK!

EDIT: More than likely it is in Varner Hall. I have no idea where the phone(s) may be.

Ceantari, what region do you want a thread for?

Ceantari?

I'm at school, and can't access the the coordinates from here. Can any helpful person tell me if there is any axons near St. Louis, Missouri, again? Anywhere within an hour of it, I'd love to try to go to. Can anyone post coordinates here for me? Please?

There's 3 in St Louis, check on this list:

2 out of the 3 for the Dallas area

Ok, I've gotten 2 of the Axons for the Dallas proper area. The last one is around 7 tonight, and I can't make it. If no one gets it today, I'll get it tomorrow. The 2 locations so far have been the exact same locations as the previous Axons.

I said both Melissa and Operator to make sure there were no issues. They never ask for a password (and I've lit up 3 axons so far), so I think we can write off needing a password.

Trying to find an answer

I am just a little bit behind on the axons. Do we know what day these phone locations will ring? Or is it everyday until they are answered and go hot? I can easily go hit 2 of them tomorrow morning, but I don't want to go stand by the phone on the wrong day.

They ring every day for a week until they go hot.

Sorry, headed out to the Mall of GA axon, so I can't wait for the (possible) regional thread. If you were going to come out to MoGA do it anyway. it is a big place and likely to have a lot of phones on many different floors of the building.

Four Quarters and an hour of your time...

Anyone ever heard of needing to pay for an incoming pay phone call? Anyway...

Good News: Through lucky guess and coincidental timing, I found the Superior, CO Axon
Bad News: Due to the lack of quarters I didn't get to make it live.

I noticed that there where two new Louisville area Axons (VISA 12:23 and SHOCK_STICKS 13:39 both in Superior). This caught my eye because I was going to be in Superior this very afternoon. Looking at the maps however, I was a bit concerned. Unlike the Louisville Axon that is located in downtown old Louisville (a likely place to find a pay phone) these mapped to an intersection in a bunch of office buildings. The closest public buildings where a Home Depot and a Loews. Neither has a payphone to the best of my knowledge. However, I happen to know that a fair distance (but not too far) away was a movie theater. As a lot of Axons seem to have been at movie theaters I took a chance and hit the movie theater at 1:20. At dead on 1:23 the phone rang (much to the shock of the guy behind the counter Wink). I answered it ready to hear Melissa's voice and I hear.. "Please deposited 50¢ for an additional seven minutes." *sigh* No luck. But on a whim I picked the reciever up again and what do hear? "..real(?) name?" in a demented little voice. I am about to answer when I hear "Please deposited 50¢ for an additional seven minutes." *ARGH* "Wrong" comes the little demented voice again and the "I love bees" start up. As you can imagine I am a little peeved.

Too make a long story short (too late I know) if someone has four quarters and an hour to waste they can set the Superiour Axons hot.

Go in the front doors (the phones are inside)
There is a phone on the left and right side next to the bathrooms.
You want the phone on the right. The ring is soft so keep someone close if there are a lot of people around.
If you are fast with the coins, you should be able to get them in before she asks her question.

The 13:37 shock_sticks axon in NYC was a bust. There was one phone kitty-corner across the intersection (10th St & 5th Ave) from where the coordinates mapped to, another pair of phones on 5th closer to 11th, and another pair closer to 9th. I got there early and tested the 11th St phones - one was out of order, the other didn't ring but took incoming calls - and the 10th St one, which did the same no-ring thing. Decided to man the 10th St phone, since it was closest.

A few minutes before 4:37 I got company - two guys named Sean and Skender, who came separately. Skender had been at the 13:23 standard_procedure axon but another guy showed up, so he decided to run to the next phone on the list. I stayed at 10th, Skender went to 11th, and Sean to 9th, but none of our phones got calls. There's also two pair of phones at 8th which I guess are worth checking, along with an NYU dorm and a church on opposite sides of the street at 10th that could potentially house phones. Or, could be that the phone Melissa's calling is the out of order one. Only one way to find out for sure, though. Geek

Also, I'm not sure how universal this is, but on Verizon payphones you can dial 958 for free to find out the phone's number. Handy for testing the status of unlabeled phones.

As there are more axons to work on earlier than I expected, I'm releasing a tool I'm working on even though it's not yet even alpha quality.

http://www.inio.org/bees/mapper.swf

1. Select your time zone (used to convert PDT into local time)
2. click an axon on the big map
3. see about where it is
4. mouseover axon points to see their time & location
5. click the gray box in the top-left to go back to the big map

What's missing:

  • Realtime loading of map imagery from TerraServer-USA (I almost have this working).
  • Panning around zoomed-in maps
  • Support for other time zones (someone asked for a PDT offset field on the time zone page, that's easy enough to do)
  • Alaska and Hawaii (I know there's an axon in Alaska this time, any in Hawaii?)
  • Any other suggestions?

I have good and bad news. Good news: there's another one near me, I scouted the spot and I'm almost sure I know where the phone is. The bad news is I figured it out too late so I'll need to wait till tomorrow.

Sorry guys, I'm all over it tomorrow though. None of the phones have been doing anything other than what they're supposed to right? (I heard someone saying that they said the correct reponse and that the AI giggled at them)

I'll put in the request for the LA area thread, if no one else does. I can't make any of these axons before the weekend, but hopefully some other people will be able to cover them. If not, I should be able to get one or two. I hope.

What a difference a week makes! Last time there were 40 people for the Davis Axon, this time 4! Good thing we knew which phone. I met Slinky, Prokaryotic_Cell and one other at the phone near 3rd and C streets. Call came right on time. "my real name" answered "Melissa" three times before I got a "Good" in response. We repeated the clip three times before it went into the "I love bees" loop.

I see that it is activated on the Hiveku page so no need for a transcript from memory!

Heat them up 'keepers!
