I concur. I tried 6 different de-steggers and they all told me the file did not contain any hidden info. I also tried every notable word I could find in this thread (e.g., sophia, descartes, joinus, etc) IMHO, I think something happened bit-wise to the file preventing de-stegging (possibly related to the name change?)

I went a step further, I opened it up in a hex editor and I can't find any of the standard headers hidden in it for a file to be contained within. The Exif Data is intact, and then the image - generally when its camo'd there will be large blocks of dead space (20 20 20 20 et al) throughout the begining 1/3rd, followed by the hidden file, then dead space and then the image. The last of these dead blocks contains the password, XOR'd, as the first bit range (1 to 255 bits, the rest of the 255 bit block filled with 20's eg dead space) - there are no noticable blank ranges at all, and in the TINY blank ranges I can find, there are no password-looking strings.

Even if I wasted my time XORing what I found I highly doubt it would be the password.

On an unrelated topic if anyone would like to know how to find the key to use to XOR the password from the encrypted string, let me know. Very Happy

But how come the size of this file is bigger then?

I'd guess, as mentioned above, that it's been corrupted. Maybe the file didn't steg properly. Maybe it has something to do with how the original file was sent to us - on their pc it uncamo's fine but once sent, perhaps its compressed in some way and that's what causes the steg to be destroyed. You generally don't see stegged images with intact EXIF data and this one has a full EXIF header - maybe the email program the original sender is using to send the file forces EXIF data into the image? or recreates it somehow, compresses it for size, etc.

There's a million reasons I can think of that it would work on their pc but not our pc's. The only real thing to do is ask the original sender to zip the image, send the zip and pray it works. If its zipped, there should be no local compression to the image, instead the whole thing will be compressed inside the zip file...

I can hear crickets already so I'll shut up.

I've been working on that image since I got it, and I've got NOTHING in the way of a lead. This is getting frustrating.

Nope. I just tried Descartes in all caps, all lower, and proper caps; no luck on any of them!

I even renamed it to match the original filename from Wikipedia and that didn't work either.

I got it open. This game is starting to get on my nerves. Half the sent copies didn't contain a proper steg, and it's just sloppy after the first few weeks of well planned puzzles. My copy, thankfully, could be destegged no problem, especially since we're all "idiots" and had that password (which everyone WITHOUT working copies tried to no avail) "handed" to us.

Here's a zip with everything the stegged file contained.

Sorry to sound bitter, kids, but since the PMs have already admitted in game that they are "watching us", I'd like to inform them that before they go SLIGHTLY ooc to tell us that we're idiots, they should make sure all their files work properly. I was greatly enjoying this game all month, and then the last week or so has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wrinkles leave my skin
But still, don't fade
I'll be back again when the tide is in some day

Song. "In a Cave" by Tokyo Police Club

So the where could be either "in a cave" or "Tokyo, Japan".

Quote:
When: Arrested on charges of unemployment,
he was sitting in the witness stand
The judge's wife called up the district attorney
Said you free that brown eyed man
You want your job you better free that brown eyed man

Song. "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" by Chuck Berry

Not sure about this one yet.

Quote:
What: leave me for dead
how can you love?
program the head

"Xxzxcuzx Me" by Crystal Castles

No idea. This song sucks though.

Quote:
Who: We'll be back when you hear that sound
Of the siren from the end of the road now
We'l l be back when you hear that sound
Cause these old legs took one last dance in the back of the ambulance

"Letters From The Ambulance" by The Fashion

So far all song lyrics. I thought maybe artist or title clues, but it's not really getting me anywhere thus far.

Quote:
Why: dont change your heart
cause baby you got me
here with the last word to fall out of your mouth
i did what was told
but if i could just take it back you know i would

The Prize Fighter Inferno - "Blood Machine"

This song is also credited to Coheed and Cambria, not sure which did it originally cause I'm running on no sleep for the last 48 hours and was too lazy to find out who did it first.

That's all the clues from the files inside the desteg. Do what you will with them. The more I work on this, the grumpier I'm getting.

Hi guys! I discovered this game yesterday. I sent an email to not-Jack asking
if he'd seen or heard from the man in the robe since Dec. 1...His reply:

Quote:
Yes. HEISENERYONE HEISAMONGSTYOU HEHASASTORY.

Don't know if this has any potential helpfulness, or if this was just a "Welcome to the game" kind of email. I'm assuming the first sentence is supposed to be "He is in everyone", maybe? Also the use of amongst rather than among is a little off.
