Marble Hornets has never been an ARG. Nor do I believe it ever will be one. This was never intended to be an ARG, but because J responded to messages sent to him early on people believed it might have been one.

 		Wow. First SM-related nightmare I've ever had last night. Basically, I was running down a highway, and the only things on the edges of the road were trees. Slendy was behind me, and every time I looked back, he was a little bit closer. After a while, I stopped and turned around. His arms continued to swell until everything around me was just dark. Then I woke up.

It was made even creepier by the fact that I now have a notebook full of SM/JaF/MH related stuff under my bed.

 		Okay guys, I'm new here and never played an ARG (even though this isn't one), and I read this thread until I couldn't read it anymore, haha. I am on page 118.

I've been watching this for a while and I have a theory that has almost definitely been said on here already, but I just couldn't go past 118 pages in one sitting, lol.

I posted it in a thread on Facebook with some of my friends and I thought I would post it here. Again, if this is already on here, I apologize. Just ignore me if it is.

I think Slenderman has some kind of super strong magnetic/electric field that causes people to black out when they see him. They still remain fully conscious and go about their business (albeit acting slightly differently), but they have no memory of the sightings. Alex used to live in the little town they were shooting in, and never had seen Slenderman until he came back to shoot Marble Hornets. Or maybe he had, and just had blacked out every experience.

Unfortunately for Alex, he came back to the town with a camera, and after reviewing the tapes he saw his interactions with the Slenderman despite not remembering it. From that point forward, he knew that he was suppressing memories and they were blocked out of his mind, but he clearly saw proof of his interactions on the camera. Thus, he started recording himself at all times, possibly looking back at the tapes whenever he realized that he couldn't remember what had just occurred.

This would explain why he was so freaked out about leaving the camera on in the gazebo. The footage from "Exit" could have been filmed by Alex immediately before he saw Slendy at that concrete building. Perhaps he was filming Jay walking to the car to make sure nothing happened to him. The following video filmed by an unknown person who found the filming site for Entry 13/"Exit" proves that the parking lot Jay walked to was clearly visible from the cement building where Slendy is seen.

This theory also explains why Jay had NO recollection of Entry 17 (where he was acting strangely and saying he was cold). Slenderman was right behind all of them during that, but it seems that no one noticed (since no one was freaking out). But his energy still must have wiped their minds.

Jay ALSO had no memory of where he went in the night for the 3 hours after Entry 19. As totheark showed us, Slendy was chilling out right there next to Jay's zombie-looking self. So that's two moments Jay has no recollection of, and would have never known about without the help of totheark (since Jay was recording himself, but left his house along with the camera).

So Jay has no memory of seeing/being around Slenderman ever, and wouldn't even know he had if not for totheark/Alex's tapes.

ANOTHER interesting thing. When Masky attacked Jay, he didn't black out. He rememebred the attack but thought he was hallucinating. He DID, however, black out as he ran out the door and turned off the camera (waking up on the side of the road in his car). Which would mean that Slenderman was chillin' out maxin', relaxin' all cool somewhere near or in the house (I'm guessing outside since he blacked out after running away).

So I'm starting to think that maybe totheark IS helping Jay, in some kind of fucked up roundabout way. He has filled in Jay's missing memories, much like Alex. I'm willing to bet that Jay was also the one who emptied the pill bottle, took off the labels, and misplaced the bullet casing during a near-encounter with Slenderman.

One last point: Alex seemed to be very private and protective about his tapes. It is entirely possible that he never showed them to anyone in the cast or crew. So even though we know that Brian, Sarah, and Alex (and possibly Tim) SAW Slenderman, they could all be completely oblivious about it if Alex didn't show them anything. Let's take the moment with Brian and Alex in the car from Entry 7 as an example here. We know Alex saw Slenderman, and reacted as if he knew exactly what he was looking at. But just because he was blacked out doesn't mean he didn't react how he would normally to seeing Slenderman after noticing him on the tapes. He just can't remember. Also keep in mind that he didn't point it out to Brian, as if to protect him from the fear and to keep him oblivious (knowing that he was still the only person to remember Slendy if everyone was blacking out as he did).

So it seems now that totheark is Jay's only hope for filling in his missing gaps of information unless Jay captures Slenderman on his own camera (which he still hasn't to this day). I bet that's going to change on Entry 20 at the tower.

So my view, as of now, is that totheark is Masky, and that Masky is Alex. Perhaps Alex has found a way to keep his memories and is now trying to help Jay after discovering the YouTube entries (it explains why the totheark responses didn't start showing up until well into the entries).

I'd also be willing to bet that video/audio distortion = human blackout, and that when it stops, the memories return.

 		Wow, pretty much everything you said is exactly how I view what is going on.

Although I think the label was torn off of the pill bottle before J found it at the house, and I don't think J took the pills, because he's been video taping himself constantly like Alex, and he probably would have noticed him downing them.

Actually, now that I think about it, I guess it's possible he took all of them during the 3 hours in which Return took place, although very unlikely IMO. =/

Also, I'm not so sure about totheark helping J anymore. As much as I want totheark to be a friend to J, Return is kind of incriminating. Just a bit.

Haha... yeah. If he DID down all the pills, that could explain why he was basically comatose against the door in Return. Maybe he OD'd. Up until now, we haven't seen Slendy actually do any real harm to someone - at least, not something as bad as what we saw happen to Jay.

The only thing I couldn't explain was the Entry with Alex driving back with the camera to where he saw Slendy under the street light. If he had blacked it out, he wouldn't know he saw Slenderman in the first place (like everyone else). However, he did say he was walking his dog at the time.

Perhaps animals somehow render Slenderman's energy worthless? Or perhaps he can't use that ability when certain animals are aware of his presence? Tim did say something about dead animals showing up in Brian's yard.

Maybe Alex remember Slendy because he had his dog with him, and due to this, had an underlying knowledge of his existence when seeing him from there on, even while blacking out all of the subsequent encounters. Perhaps once he saw Entry 12 after blacking out that encounter, he decided to keep it to himself to keep his friends from falling into his paranoia since they had no memory of Slenderman to make them freak out whenever they saw him (or at least remember him at all afterwards).

Maybe, under normal circumstances, you would never even know you saw him if you did. Until he was captured digitally, at least. That would be rare enough, but capturing him multiple times would be even less likely.

Unless you are a film student who just happens to be frequently shooting in the woods he inhabits. Smile

 		maybe Masky took them while Jay was with totheark in the three hours he was gone? Who said Masky was with Jay when he was gone?
