Asset is hot!

Transcript:

(in a car, police radio in the background)

James James(maybe?): Shoplift, play high school goddess for the tormented geeks in your neighborhood.

Jan James: Oh, oh, I guess should have been out on the streets murdering bad guys huh? Strangling jay walkers on the way home from school.

JJ: When I was your age, I pulled strings so I could join up a year early, wanted to help save humankind, so you're about the last person on the planet I need a civics lecture from.

Jan: Well you sure as hell need one from somebody.

JJ: What I needed was an asset to solve a problem, you were just dumb enough to make yourself available.

Jan: (Sniffing) Look, you just made me help you murder someone. Could you just be a little bit nice to me?

JJ: (softer) Yeah.... Okay...

(tape winding down)

Also to add to that when I listen to red and Aiden presses the red button you can hear a beeping sound like an alarm going off. When the Cop's comm system comes on you can hear the same beeping in the backround right before the garbled message starts so it sounds like whatever Aiden pressed trigged the alarm at the police station

No, no, no! Listen again. There are four people in the clip. The person saying "Red, red, red..." (Kamal?, probably accepted the thing that Aiden asked him to do) is saying it through a communications device to another person (Hiroyuki?) at a remote site who answers through the communicater with "I thought it was blue". Aiden is there in the room with the Kamal and the cop. The speaker (Kamal?) comments on Aiden's "Red" curtains to provide an expalanation to the cop as to why he was saying "Red". Aiden gets it and plays along with the "my friend is passionate about interior decorating" dodge.

Aiden's voice in the room is clearly local, the voice of the person "at the button" is clearly transmitted!

I'll buy that, it also makes dude make more sense. Cause in dude Aiden and Kamal are together, not talking over anything And dude takes place right after red. So whoever that was on the other line is who pressed the button as a decoy.

Here's 'asset':

Quote:

Jan: Oh, I, I guess I should have been out on the streets murdering bad guys, huh? Strangling jaywalkers on my way home from school?
Cop: When I was your age I pulled strings so I could join up a year early. Wanted to help save humankind. So you're about the last person on the planet I need a civics lecture from.

Cop: What I NEEDED was an asset to solve a problem. You were just dumb enough to make yourself available.
Jan: (sniffling) Look, you just made me help you murder someone. Could you just be a little bit nice to me?
Cop: Yeah...okay.
<tape winding>

Odd, isn't it?

Not that I don't believe you, but... Do we know that or is it authoritatively written somewhere?
I ask because it doesn't fit with the mental picture that I have of this world. Even if wireless phones (They hate it when you call them cell phones Wink) may become ubiquitous but that does not mean that I would be able to guarantee that you have your phone on you. Nor would it mean that I would be able to hack into your off-line phone and overhear your conversations. Or need to filter out 'sleep time'. Or project 3D audio such that your voice appears to come from some point between two listeners.
The way this world has been portrayed makes it seem that it would be impossible for you to forget your chatter-net connection in the kitchen table when you go to work. That it is always there and always on.

Just trying to get a feel for the environment.

with the addition of asset.wav my spec still holds.

maybe it wasn't j^2 who is dead though..

But, you can tell from standard_procedure to asset that jan is forced to do this, and possibly it's the cop framing jan. maybe the cop kep some of the papers from the tests done on her? and he knows something she can't let out..so she helps him who knows

add to this that the tape winding is of the "end of storyline" type...

that is all...

This does not seem to be James James. The voices do not seem similar enough. It does sound like the cop from the interrogation. James James does sound more calm and friendly, and yes, somewhat like George Clooney. The cop in this clip does not.

i say "you just killed someone"

or something like "you just lied"

As saying, the guy didn't really pull out a gun, so he lied..And that's why it's considered murder (asset.wav)

So in Freelance, sounds like Aiden is paying Kamal to help him. But it doesn't seem right that he and Sophia would get back together, maybe Aiden knows a few chatternet tricks too?

This, to me, would seem to be another indication that these events are taking place during the Covenant war.

Transcript for Freelance, cause it's kinda hard to hear.
Kamal: Freelance?
Aiden: Free as in paid dude. As in I would pay you money to use your powers for good instead of...
Kamal: Spying on you?
Aiden: That.
Kamal: I don't think... that it would be a good idea to work for you.
Aiden: Oh, you mean because of Sophia? Sophia and I worked things out. Where's my damn chatter?
(beeping)
Aiden: Soph, you want to talk to Kamal?
Sophia: Hi Kamal, Aiden's a bastard.
(someone says pardon me?)?
Sophia: (laughs) But he's my bastard.
Kamal: Thats good.
edited for correctness!

How long is/was/will be the Covenant war?
He says "When I was your age." This implies that it was some time ago as it is only said by older folks.
