So yeah, obviously I signed on right at the right moment to choose pieces, though I'm not sure why there are 2 boards. We can hardly fill up the one.

On Claire, I had this little talk w/ Vlad.... not much, I guess.

Claire played the game. She achieved a score. She then realised it ws more than just a simple play and asked not to be involved. Not her words, but her sentiment.

Also... are any of you people on YIM or GTalk? I really hate FB chat.

FB chats is horrible. I don't have either of those, though.

I don't have YIM, but you can get me on google with evieSPLATbeyondtherift.com (it's a google-powered address), if you'd like.

That goes for any of you. Smile

And if you've got AIM, I can be reached through edelweissrose.

A question about the remaining pieces. Would a player be able to chose more than one on the same board?

As in - if Paul for example were to be a pawn, could he also be a second pawn, or, a rook? Or would he be limited to just being the singular pawn?
9:59pmVladimir

Can you be in two places at once?
10:00pmJames

I don't know. Can you?
10:00pmVladimir

I know. Can you?
10:01pmJames

Alternate dimensions and such aside - I don't guess you can.

Then again.

My guess doesn't mean it's so.
10:01pmVladimir

And so the game is almost ready.

Do not guess, your highness/fellow bishop. Both roles require exactness of thought, not guesstimation.

A mirror reflected.
10:03pmJames

Well, my answer would be - yes, you can be in more than one place at one time, as is apparent with each of the 'players' in this 'chess' match picking a position on each board.

Vladimir

Then you have your answers.

Sire.

Question. 1:11 my time, or PM for you?

These time zones.. makes it hard to tell.

10:06pmVladimir
as in 1.11
10:08pmJames

The date?

To be honest.

I'm confused.
10:10pmVladimir

The kings of both boards need to have their pieces as soon as they can. 1.11 is the cut off point though. You should look at how I write things, not in cursive, but regarding time. There are answers I am trying to tell you, yet at the same time cannot reveal ina simple way. For where would the king learn from if not from his bishops?
10:12pmVladimir

And no, I am not drunk. I intentionally edit my writing to convey certainties being not so should matters require it.

This includes spaces and punctuation.
10:13pmJames

Well, with so many possibilities and the importance in things, I try to make sure I understand to the best extent I can.
10:13pmVladimir

So, in blunt: 22 hours, the game will start, pieces assigned or no. Tis will involve information being passed to a variety of people, tasks being given out and, ultimately, a meeting of minds.
10:14pmJames

I see. So it won't be a chess game at all. Each player on each board is going to be given a specific amount of information and tasks depending on their place on the board, then?

Or am I totally missing the point...

Vladimir

No. You have missed part though.
10:16pmJames

The meeting of minds part, I guess it'd be.
10:16pmVladimir

Why set up a chess game if not to play... There will be choices made, peces moved. Sacrifices made.

Our tasks will be assigned based on the pieces we chose? So do rooks have to do the grunt work?

Told you this wasn't all about chess. That would require a very specific part of the population that knows how to play. There's so much information here -- chemistry, math, literature -- that to focus on one aspect (chess) wouldn't be efficient. Vlad (and Vanessa, too, wherever she's at) needs a wide variety of knowledge to do whatever needs to be done.

Edit
He just sent me a weird message, while I've been working on a Cliff's Note version to update newcomers:

Starting to wish I would have picked a knight...
I want to reply to everything he says, backwards.

And my nightly round-up for today is:

Quote:
Vladimir: Who will your fellow rook be though? Your king is more focused on his queen it seems, with current discussion with him. Not wise to have a castle with only two walls...

Jane: I think you underestimate the solid stubornness of this particular wall.

Vladimir: I do not, but an unbalanced game is dangerous indeed.
He talks of wanting players to be more than one thing per board - that way lies madness does it not anonymous one?

Jane: I suppose I could make a polite suggestion along these lines.... [at this point I suggested PG be a rook, not a pawn.]

Vladimir: The castle supports the kingdom does it not? The parliament, the people?

Jane: There. I did it. You've co-opted me.
Does it feel good?

Vladimir: I merely work for the people, as do you no?

Jane: I work for a living, nothing more. Not to cast aspersions on you, but there's little in your actions that suggest true popularism...

Vladimir: And what actions are they then? Have you met me? No. Spoken to me? No. You base everything upon the written word, on a social network site and that makes it real? My dear Jane Doh, your identity explains a great deal and your choice of roles more so. My actions are my own, and are done so to protect lives more uncountable than you can Fathom.
I will rest now and return to this discussion when you have thought upon our words. Good night.

Jane I was just trying to say, chess references and cryptics aren't exactly for ... mass consumption...

So damn touchy.... And, I'm fairly certain I've crossed paths with this PM before.

No seriously, how about: What do you hope to gain from Vanessa and her uncle's papers?

He is very touchy. He gets frustrated a lot with me and, it seems, Telos, too.

Anyway, I've made a basic list of all of us and what are roles are/have been. I didn't add the chess stuff, because I'm still not certain who has which piece. If there's any issues, please feel free to correct me. I'm going on what I can remember, lol.

@Jim - I want to know how he knows Vanessa's mom. He's mentioned how much V is like her mom and then "corrects" himself.

Telos was kind enough to assign me as his Rook and I'm doing the happy dance to be on board. Very Happy
**still can't believe I woke up at this early hour...just in time to play**

I was staying up till 2am when we were doing Groundhog. Luckily, I have one job where I can kinda make my own schedule and the other is an evening shift, so it was okay.

I think you have to be careful about how you word it. Vlad loves to play with words. He could say, "I'm no relation" and that would be it.
