I sent a message to Vlad, and got this and a friend request in return:

A friend pointed me in your direction. I see that you are a fan of the Bard. I just ended a run of the Scottish Play, myself, and am working on Timon of Athens in the spring. I realize it may be a bit late in the game, but perhaps I could be of some assistance?

Vladimir

Welcome.

Vladimir

I've now been awake for 30 hours, so I'm not really able to ponder that until I get some sleep.

I really am working on Timon, soon, and he seems to be referencing that a lot, so maybe I'll finally have my niche come in handy!

ah

OK, didn't know the heirarchy pics... either of them.
RRR, just got a parking fine through the post.
Not best pleased.
At the moment I really don't care, pawns have no say in the matter, so that's probably about right for me, and yes I took the majority of her peices including her queen and all but 1 pawn, a castle, and she got a queen back.

Sounds quite relevant after reading Vlad's latest FB update:

He references a lot of Shakespeare, not just Timon. He grilled me on Macbeth one night and has posted a Sonnet to Telos. He also references religion a lot, as well.

I sent him the pic of the charm bracelet and got this back:

Quote:
I don't know. Jewellery. If it important though, pray to Archangel Michele. He may assist.

He spelled jewelry wrong.

Archangel Michele = Archangel Michael.
Quote:
In the Roman Catholic Church, Saint Michael has four main roles or offices.[31] He is the Christian angel of death, carrying the souls of all the deceased to heaven, where they are weighed in his perfectly balanced scales (hence Michael is often depicted holding scales). At the hour of death, Michael descends and gives each soul the chance to redeem itself before passing, thus consternating the devil and his minions. St Michael is the special patron of the Chosen People in the Old Testament and is guardian of the Church; it was thus not unusual for the angel to be revered by the military orders of knights during the Middle Ages. Last, he is the supreme enemy of Satan and the fallen angels.

That's just the Roman Catholic version of St. Michael. I figured it was the best fit, since I chose Knight.

I still think reverse-Vampire is the best fit. Wink

Claire has updated. No post today, due to snow. And she had a weird dream last night. Vlad has also updated some stuff. A pictures from Timon of Athens. I wonder why he chose that image and the words "Chaoter 1 draws to a close" (Strange his misspellings today). A play has acts, not chapters.

Well, the tl;dr version is that I really won the brain game, but Telos told Vlad he wanted to be King. Telos had been tasked with taking a screenshot of the winner. He mentioned to Vlad that he wanted to be King. Vlad told him "Macbeth", meaning become king by any means necessary. He photoshopped himself the winner and we have 2 boards.

I really think the boards have nothing to do with an actual chess game. We chose our pieces and our tasks will be based on "qualities" traditionally exhibited by those pieces (King, Queen, Knight, Bishop, etc).

When I talked to Vlad the first time I did yesterday, he said that the Kings and Queens would get their hands on important information. I mentioned wanting that information, but that I was unable to beat that damn game. He told me that there are other ways to become a king, and said 'Macbeth' and then reminded me his rule was that he needed a screenshot of the weekly scores.. I brought it up to him that he was the highest male on the score board, so he would be king - I would be forsaking his trust, because he would know I cheated. He said that I must have trusted him to trust me if I told him that. Then he told me to 'seize the day'.

After sending the doctored screen shot, he called me out on it, and started two boards.

Make sure to switch it from F° to C° (I think it's F° by default, any way.)

Actually, he didn't. Jewellery is the British spelling. I write fic a lot for UK fandoms (Doctor Who, Life on Mars, etc.), so I've taken to picking up UK phrasing and spelling. Traveller, jewellery - they tend to double the L in words like that.

Anyway, I got a facebook message from him this morning:

It's a line from Timon, Act 4, Scene 3. I won't post the whole thing 'cause it's an epic-long monologue, but you can find it here: http://www.curtainrising.com/shakes/timon/timon.4.3.html (it's in the monologue at the beginning).

I'll tell thee everything I can

I've managed to identify the text hidden in the Manchester University computing lab paper, it's a Lewis Carroll poem called "I'll Tell Thee Everything I Can" and is reprinted from "The Hunting of the Snark and other poems and Verses" also known as the White Knights tale.
I also noticed the Greenwich map of the Old Royal Observatory also has marked next to it the site of Greenwich Castle.
This same sheet also has marked on it something mathy, and also ainma L (?) hyphen/minus sulutit sutluaw (sp?). Sulutit is Titulus reversed, an early Christian church round the edges of Rome, held by a cardinal also, titular see confers rank of titular (arch) bishop on it's incumbent. This could give us a bishop?
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427391.600-alices-adventures-in-algebra-wonderland-solved.html An article about Charles Dodgson writing Alice as a satire on this recently introduced algebra nonsense. Razz
The General Wolfe statue missing from V's pic of Greenwich was erected in 1930. He's buried in St Alfege's, a church in Greenwich, named after an archbishop captured by the Danes in 1012. This became the royal church in Tudor times when the court was based at The Old Royal Naval College.
Another pic posted by V shows this from the 1800's.
OK, brain dump done.

Great work, theclaw!

Quote:
He said, "I look for butterflies
That sleep among the wheat;
I make them into mutton-pies,
And sell them in the street.

I sell them unto men," he said,
"Who sail on stormy seas;
And that's the way I get my bread--
A trifle, if you please."

It's another one of Carroll's nonsensical poems, like Jabberwocky, except this one makes a *bit* more sense than that one ever did. It's a nice poem; kinda funny.

Super work, theclaw! The reversed Latin phrase appears to be "occultus titulus-lamnia" which V. also notes in her 13Dec. Yahoo blog entry. Earlier in the thread Rad translated this phrase as hidden label - metal sheet

Could also translate as: hidden sheet metal placard (or tablet)

Ok, I'm feeling well enough to get some stuff done now.

I don't have the exact conversation because I had hit the clear chat history button during a lag-fit, so, you'll have to bear with the general gist of it.

A few nights back, Vlad posed a hypothetical question to me. It involved an air-raid happening on London. Two hours before it was to happen, the raid was found out, and there was a choice.
A.) Evacuate the people, but let the Germans know that you knew their codes - which would then be changed, causing more confusion and chaos.
B.)Let the air-raid happen, and doom thousands of people to death, BUT have their codes and be lead a successful raid on them the next day, possibly ending the war.
C.) Something else.

I said that normally, in that situation, I don't know what I would do, but that either way - the ends justified the means. (Something I find my self saying to him quite a bit.)

He then said something to the extent of "What if ONE family escaped?" then I said "What do you mean? Did they have insider knowledge, or was it by some means of ESP?" (This was -before- his crazytalk about sensing V and being able to 'see' the green line.) He told me "That's the questions they asked back then. They're all dead now." then said something about there being a lack of telephones, and that all the kids were 'scattered, fluttering like butterflies' (or something very close to that.).

My initial theory on this was incorrect. I thought V's mother may have been one of those kids, but, she was born in 1950. Dawn brought that to my attention, but we agreed that it could have been their parents. We both went to bed after that. But, I remembered a name on the tree this morning, and it makes sense in that scenario - Cynthia Phanes - Born 29th of July, 1923.

So. Cynthia's parents - one of them must have been :
A. ) A German spy - thus knowing about the air raid way ahead of time, even before the code-crackers.
B. ) Worked as code-crackers and somehow left their 'job', got the kids, and got the hell out.
C. ) Had some form of extra-sensory-perception and 'saw' the raid before it happened.

Normally, I wouldn't include option C. But, it seems Vlad can do it. When I asked him about how he knew V was safe before - when she had that breakdown over the letter - he said he could sense her. When I asked how, and if it was some sort of ESP, he said not exactly - but the math behind it was very complex.

He answered my question I asked last night, about it with :
Quote:
But then renew I could not, like the moon;
There were no suns to borrow of

Timon of Athens, scene III.
Quote:
http://www.wsu.edu/~delahoyd/shakespeare/timon4.html

Thinking about calling him "Misanthropos" now. Razz

So either he really likes Timon act iv scene iii, or there's something significant about that, since he quoted that at me, too, early this morning before I woke up.

I have to run out, but it's worth trying to figure out what the monologue or scene is about - I'm rubbish at Shakespeare, for the most part. ^^;;

From the site I linked, here's a dissected portion of Timon of Athens, with explanations of what's going on/why.

Quote:
Alcibiades comes by with two women and Timon curses him for exposing him to examples of humanity. Alcibiades at first doesn't recognize Timon, who calls himself Misanthropos now. But when he does realize it's Timon, he asks how he became so changed. "As the moon does, by wanting light to give: / But then renew I could not, like the moon; / There were no suns to borrow of" (IV.iii.68-70). Alcibiades asks what he can do for Timon, but Timon just continues cursing. Alcibiades asks the women to be forgiving, "for his wits / Are drown'd and lost in his calamities" (IV.iii.89-90). Although giving Alcibiades gold to wage war on Athens, Timon wants him to become a butcher: "Let not thy sword skip one. / Pity not honor'd age for his white beard, / He is a usurer" (IV.iii.111-113). [An allusion to Burghley (Ogburn and Ogburn 119)?] Alcibiades should slay young women and children too. Timon also gives the women money to continue their profession as prostitutes since it can, through v.d., cause more damage than can Alcibiades and an entire army. He tells them to wear wigs and make-up: "thatch your poor thin roofs / With burthens of the dead -- some that were hang'd, / No matter; wear them, betray with them. Whore still, / Paint till a horse may mire upon thy face: / A pox of wrinkles" (IV.iii.145-149). Alcibiades hopes to visit Timon again, but he realizes their presence now is only upsetting him.

Should give us some insight.

Edit ::
I did call Vlad Misanthropos :
Quote:
James Nichols December 18 at 5:31pm
I thought you were parading as Mr Sirin, now Misanthropos?

Quote:
Vladimir Sirin December 18 at 5:55pm
I do not parade. You asked me "Why is it you can't go out at night?" I gave you your answer - there is not enough light.

Quote:
James Nichols December 18 at 2:59pm
I didn't see that as you saying not enough light. I must be thinking too far in to everything, now, because I was sure that was supposed to be an explanation of personal change, and not simply that there isn't enough light.

Sorry - I'm starting to see 'hidden meanings' in everything...

Trying to not seem like I'm being an ass or anything and still 'on his side', but letting him know that I'm not taking everything at face value.

Edit 2 ::

Not sure if Vlad is being weird(er) or if there's a reason he can't speak about the scans.
Quote:
James

Were you able to make use of the scans?
6:05pmVladimir

Which scans
6:06pmJames

The map (which contained the equation I gave you before.) and the sheet from Manchester University.
6:06pmVladimir

I know of no such thing and nor do you, DO YOU?
6:07pmJames

Must have been a dream.
6:07pmVladimir

In fact no such document exists at all on the internet.

123 minutes left.

Awaiting a question from your rival and placements from both of you.

Hi, all,

Just to give you a heads-up, I have sent a friend request to some of you on Facebook using my ARG profile, Rêveuse Bleue (basically my screen name here in French...Facebook wasn't willing to accept Dreamer Blue as a name, heh). If I didn't send you one, feel free to search for and add me.

I've sent friend requests to Vlad (and been accepted) as well as Claire and Vanessa (both pending), and requested to join that group with the number-name. What is the Twitter profile (there's just one, right?)? I think that's all the leads we have for following people, right?

Also, I have to say that reading this thread is straining my brain. This feels like a very "smart" game and I hope I can contribute *something*, heh Smile.

And I'm sad to have missed the brain game bit...I used to have that app installed on my "regular" Facebook account & was decent at it, heh.
