Still no luck with Grace. Sad

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I've been looking into Egyptian mythology with no luck. The quote on her back is from the Book of the Dead, and the pyramid/symbols on her arms are all related to the spells in the book on achieving various things in the afterlife.

Hasn't done me any good but thought I would share just in case someone else gets something out of it!

thats just what i've stumbled upon

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Her quote is wrong, the full thing is:

"He bestoweth wickedness on him that worketh wickedness, and right and truth upon him that followeth righteousness and truth" she doesn't seem to respond to this but could "wickedness on him that worketh wickedness" be the begining we were lacking?

Looks like we're going to need a code seen in the film to finish this, boys!

Regarding the message you get if you give the wrong code:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Looking to the stars will be to your credit" probably means ... watch the credits at the end of the film! You know, where they list the stars. Wink Could be wrong, but that's my best guess!

There's also a slight chance that the "Experimental Subject?" is another clue - maybe a title/role that'll show up in the credits, assuming that's even where we're meant to be looking.

I hear there's a MAJOR post credits scene with a surprise cameo. Maybe it's Moriarty?

Chapter 7& 8 Assistance
Chapter 7& 8 De-coding Help

I know others have already discussed the de-coding on here, but I thought I would try to lay out Chapter 7 and 8 help here for others who are confused.

CHAPTER 7

Chapter 7 is about finding Mary & Grace Teddington.

The key pieces of information you need to decide are: type of building the girls are being held in and the district of east end where the building is located.

As Holmes:

Newspaper (note that several of the details in this summary are incorrect)

Baker Street Irregulars Map (note the types of possible locations & the districts)

Search of Teddington's Front Entrance:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Teddy Bear under the bench [share this evidence with your Watson - he'll need it to interview Shirley]
2. Broken vase on the floor
3. Footprint on the carpet [note that the comments on this evidence say the clay is found in Whitechapel, London Docks, or Stepney]

As Watson:

Telegraph from Mrs. Kettle - Follow the Trail

Search Dr. Clarence's Hideout:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Bath salts (white crystals on the desk)
2. Pipe with strange resin
3. Snuff on paper [note that it is the same type used by Tom Hunter]
4. Poisoned ink (next to the bath salts)
5. Order Letter [note that the Order says to hold the girls in a warehouse]
6. Library card

Police Report:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Note that Shirley's teddy bear is named Mr. Burpy

Letter from Miles Judd:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Judd claims to be holding the girls in the London Docks.

Interview Shirley:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Gain her confidence by telling her that Mr. Burpy is safe at home. Then ask her about the direction she ran (how many turns did she make?) and what she heard while running (church bells)

CHAPTER 8

Chapter 8 is all about de-coding the puzzles on Grace's body. You should find three (3) puzzles on her body: her back, left arm and right arm.

Left Arm Puzzle:

The left arm shows a series of hieroglyphics with a crypto phrase beneath.

Ann Blanford tells you what the hieroglyphics mean
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Water Fear Ascend Decorate Oar

As for the code,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
use the substitution described in Holmes' decryption primer (replace each letter with the letter that precedes in the alphabet (e.g. replace C with B)
. Once you do this you'll find that the code reads:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ignore the ones that do not live
If you use this clue, the entire puzzle gives the result
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Fear (because the hieroglyphics for "fear" are the only symbols that are living creatures)

Right Arm Puzzle:

The right arm shows a series of symbols with Latin phrase beneath.

The modern egyptologists say that the symbols are not true hieroglyphics
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They say the birds look like capital Rs - look at the symbols as letters rather than symbols: they spell RAFTERS

Watson's latin teacher tells you that the latin phrase means
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Lacks a beginning and an end
so you should
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
read RAFTERS without the first or last letter - AFTER

Center Back Puzzle:

Hugh Shurston provides Holmes with the cypher for the puzzle on Grace's back. If you use his cypher, you'll find that the puzzle reads:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
And he bestoweth right and truth on him that followeth righteousness and truth

The words in the boxes are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
And, Bestoweth, Truth, Followeth

Interviewing Grace:
Grace will only respond to him who says the key.

Using the puzzles above, "the key" is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Fear followeth after truth

If you say this, she will wake up from her hypnosis and give you the rest of the puzzle.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
She also gives you a code: 2026

To go forward, we will need a code from the movie. The clue for the code is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Look to the stars

That's it! Best of luck!

Gosh, I had a chance to see a sneak preview tonight of this movie, and get the code, but dad duty calls. Hopefully someone has gone to one tonight.

One small correction to the otherwise excellent explanation by bigrugger above:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The key phrase is actually "fear followeth after". Each puzzle solves to one word. The puzzle on her back is looking for the word that matches the "missing row" in the pyramid. If you count the boxed words, 1 is "and", 3 is "bestoweth", 6 is "truth". You want the next boxed word which is the 10th and is "followeth". This is based on Ann Blandford's letter where she counts the "bricks" in the pyramid.

I only used these 3 words and they worked fine.

Did anyone else feel a slight "DRINK YOUR OVALTINE" moment at the end, while the animation raced you to the end of the puzzle to the big "now go see the movie!" conclusion? Wink
