lame.
Well, I can't say for sure who made it, but the website merchandise/swag thing has definitely happened before. Specifically, I remember each of Lockjaw's websites had cafepress merchandise. It's kind of an out-of-game thing: it's not that the characters themselves are putting the stuff up for sale, but it's available for those who wish to have a momento or support the PM's effort. At least that's my two cents...

none of us made it, if you look at the pop up on the dead poems page, there is a link to it. i don't have any theories as to why it's in-game, or if it IS in-game, or if this was a big tacky mistake, but it's legit... even if it is lame
{edited to change "Deadflowers" to "dead poems"}

Well I sent an email to Reed asking him whether he thought this was degrading his grandmother's memory.
And Pixiestix deadflowers ?!

Yeah, don't forget that an ARG costs money.
I don't know why they're selling Tomorrow's Talk merchandise though, it just looks lame.

The Watcher, you answered exactly your own question there.
They are selling merchandise because it costs money, they are hoping to recoup at least a fraction of the costs (probably directly towards hosting/domain costs currently).

Cafepress has been around for a long time. It started as a way for on-line comics to sell swag to generate revenue. Create an account, upload a BMP or JPEG with a logo or some such and you have it printed on cups, t-shirts, pens, you name it. Cafepress takes total ownership of your images and takes a heft piece of your income providing you with very skimpy profits. At least that has historically been the case.
Definitely NOT in-game in any way other then as a handy means to distribute the book and take care of credit card transactions.

Quoting directly from the CafePress Terms of Service, "You will retain ownership of the Content that you upload to the Web Site".
I don't think anyone believes CafePress is an in-game site. Oh, and by the way, the book publishing is handled by Lulu not Cafepress.

to clerify i didn't mean that cafe-press is in-game. i meant that the dead poems cafe press merch is in-game. unlike the people who made an ILOVEBEES cafe press shop to get money off people, but are totally unafilliated with ILB. This shop was created by the PMs.

I would agree that it's "in-game" in the sense that it was created by the PMs and not fans. However, I would not agree that it is "in-game" in the sense that Reed Singleton supposedly produced a bunch of DeadPoems thongs and mugs and put them on a website. I think it's this viewpoint that has people thinking the merchandise idea is tacky/inappropriate. I kind of view merchandise (at least the souveneir type) as "between-game": created by the PMs, but unrelated to the actual storyline/characters. Just my two cents...

Oh sorry, I was misunderstood.
I didin't mean that SELLING stuff was lame, I meant the actual t-shirts looked lame.
It's like : "Yay. I got a shirt with a computer monitor on it. That will really remind me of the good times I had at Dread House."
