[spec] Are we collectively one of the characters?

As I was looking at the subheading for this forum, the title struck me "System Peril Distributed Reflex". The "System Peril" portion may refer to Melissa's problem - that is, her system is falling apart. "Distributed" and "Reflex", though, set me off - this group of ARGers is very certainly distributed, acting as a giant collective in much the same way modern distributed apps are. We are reacting to Melissa's condition - that is, our actions are a reflex to her promptings. The problem with this theory is that the SPDR is dead. At least, that's what we've been told.

Alternately, there's the Pious Flea. His mantra: "seek the truth, reveal the truth, behold the truth" is precisely what we've been attempting to do. Our mission in this is to discover the truth of the situation by recovering and restoring Melissa's memories, at least in so far as we're aware.

I'm wondering if we, collectively, might be perceived as a single entity by Melissa.

Neither of these is very solid, but I was just idly thinking about them, and thought others might have more insight into this particular perspective.

If it is trout, please forgive me - I did try searching, but there aren't many unique keywords that distinguish this idea from the topics discussing the spider and the flea.

Heh. So, I had a rather nice post going on the whole us being SPDR thing, until I re-read your post.

My comment on this is that we're not one entity, we're a whole lot of them. Specifically, her crew. She's calling the axons, asking for her crew. And we're answering. So, probably, she thinks we're her crew. And we're going to run into some puzzle or something like that, sooner or later, which requires us to either explain ourselfs to her, or at least, try to trick her into thinking we're still her crew.

Just my $0.02

She doesn't think we are her crew:

We are the unknown voices that are speaking to her at the axons. But she is going to attempt to influence us in some way. I guess she will try to have us repair her if she can't find her crew, we seem like a willing enough bunch anyway.

The voices she's hearing are the voices in the .wavs. When we answer the phones and correctly answer her question, she identifies us as her crew. She says something along the lines of "Good, it is you. Finally." followed by her intro into the audio file.

My broadcast system is functional and expanding.
I will transmit to my crew daily until further instructions are received.

It seems like we'll get new axons every week:

The voices are of unknown origin
New voices are intercepted weekly.
I will continue my analysis and attempt to influence the source.

I think "the voices" are not only the .wavs, but us, too.

Melissa originaly tried to send some data she had so we could... um... I need to read up about ILB. But anyways, she wanted to send the data to the crew for whatever the reason, and she notices that we are not part of the crew. She also notices the voices in the data are strange... could she percive us as one and whole?

Note that I wrote this 8:30 in the morning, so don't expect it to be correct...
