I just noticed that Kevin Balderock has changed his profile image.

http://twitter.com/account/profile_image/kevinbalderock?hreflang=en

There must be a good reason for the text: Drop in only kind places. It is the crux of everything.

Just saw this and guessed that it was a hint for drop.io. Adjusting the levels on the profile image would certainly suggest that is correct. Unfortunately I am unable to connect to drop.io right now.

ETA: OK, drop.io is back up.

Incidentally there is also other location at http://drop.io/acaseofidentity

Coincidence?

Could be - looks like a Sherlock Holmes fanfic. From a brief skim through, the story is written from Moriarty's viewpoint and it's about how Watson (who is the same person as Holmes) destroyed his life. I'd say it's more likely that it's irrelevant, to be honest.

I compared the text of original to the found text. They are identical.

Also could not find anything from image itself. At least nothing that can be revealed via metatag or playing with levels / curves.

However the text clearly attempts to direct us to certain way, name of the work might be it, though my previous finding is probably just coincidence.

interesting...
title of the work?

Incidentally, this excerpt comes from the story

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A Case of Identity

wonder if that is at all relevant.

i know what you mean about it seems weird, but if it ISN'T relevant, why would there only be the one pic there? I think there is something to this.

Well image doesn't seem to contain any steg or otherwise hidden information so name of the story clearly seems to be the thing that it tries to convey.

Has anyone tweet about this new discovery to Kevin yet?

Just read the excerpt in the image and go over the story summary on Wikipedia (wow it was such a long time ago when I read the original story)

Maybe it doesn't mean something to us, but is supposed to me some kind of message from the mysterious party to Kevin?

I asked if he'd ever heard of Arthur Conan Doyle, but he hasn't replied - I have a suspicion it might be verboten.

A new file has been added to drop.io/kindplaces - a creepy looking face with the file name 'behind'.

It could be stegged (with the password as 'a case of identity'?) - but I'm running a mac; I can't desteg it.

No unknown png tags inside, under 4k, b&w only. There is not enough data there to hide steg imo.

This is bit far fetching, behind.jpg + image of mask -> Behind The Mask -> The Shadow. The Shadow had some crypto that surfaced few years back with Torment.

But "behind the mask" could mean something here.

Darn D: I was hoping.

On a (possible) wild tangent...

'Masks' are to do with concealing 'identity' - what if Kevin is not who he thinks he is, and that's what he/kind places is hinting at? Who is he behind the mask?

It could be double identity (Kevin / Mr. Kind Places), perhaps triple identity: What it is actually Mashimoshi trying to recruit agents to their ranks and they are testing us if we can figure this out?
