 		[WILD SPEC] Jason Morelli is the cause of all this?
Think about it.

Jason Morelli is flying around, returning to the apocalypso to pick up more beacons. He suddenly senses some sort of covenant cansiter floating in space, and brings it aboard. After discovering it too be empty, he ocntinues on his way to the Apocalypso, were, when his ship docks, the covenant virus (Pious Flea) infects the shipboard AI. It, acting on orders from the pious flea. initiates a slipspace jump to earth (this is impossible for a Human AI to accomplish, but a Covenant virus may know how.) Once inisde orbit, the wounded AI seeks refuge, and the only thing it can remember is Jason Morelli, so it infects his son's computer.

This part of your (wild) spec grabbed me. I have no idea why Durga (who I'm assuming is part of/a fragment of the original Melissa AI) would be on Jersey's system, and this is the best reason I've heard yet.

A few points :

We don't know that Jason Morelli brought the cylinder aboard. It is brought on board, but for all we know, the crew stumbled onto some odd, extremely dense space-junk and decided to check it out...

The cylinder isn't recognizably of Covenant origin. Doesn't mean it isn't Covenant, but (SPEC!) from the way it's described, it's probably Forerunner.

A previous memory fragment indicates that both Captain Greene and Melissa expect Covenant virii to come on board via 'Covenant transmissions' (spacewide broadcast media, I assume), rather than an actual Trojan Horse.
