New email program -- still having some problems with it -- oops!

We'll try again, eh?

Now, you guys tell me. Is this a fake/stock photo, or could this really be from "his" photo album?

I'm thinking its him cause why would the PM's send you a pic of Bruce unless its a pic of Bruce. Now we know what he looks like and if anyone ever sees that same guy in a photo we will know that it is Bruce. Than again you could always send the picture to Empty Threats to confirm it. Anyway nice job, really sexy photo I can see why Bruce liked it.

Keep up the good work Laughing

My reply to Bruce:

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the pictures. Funny, though, maybe it is
the lighting or the camera, but it almost looks like
two different (but similar) fellows. The neckline and
the sleeves on the shirts appear different. But maybe
that is just the angle of the shot.

So, that is Bob's boat, but you look like you know
what you are doing (well, photos aren't like videos,
maybe they didn't show the boom hitting you in the
head when you forgot to duck?). What kind of boat is
this one, compared to what you have? Where do you
dock yours? Does your boat have a name? I don't know
much about sailing. When I go out on a boat, it's
either for fishing or for scuba diving.

Still no word from Dale. Since no bodies were found
in the rubble of his home, he might not have been
there when it blew up. We are wondering if he went to
his office, or maybe to another person's home. Does he
have any family (parents, uncles, aunts) or would he
come to you (or is he upset with you)?

--------------------
So, have you been thinking about the Marzano boys and
their role in this mess? Did you see this email (some
of my more computer literate friends got ahold of a
copy of this email from Sal Marzano to Dale):

From: <sal@sonsofdon.com>

Subject: Big Mistake

Date: 04 April 2003

You must have thought you were being pretty smart,
didn't you? I don't know how you knew we were coming
to pay you a little visit today, or where you found
those weird goons who was in your house, waiting when
we got there. But if you thought that would stop this
or scare us off, you are wrong. Dead wrong.

If those guys are working for you and you think their
"tricks" are gonna help you, you're dreaming.

We got people everywhere, you know, more people than
you can imagine.

Big mistake, Dale. Big mistake.

Sal
---------------------

I'm really worried that they are dangerous to Dale,
especially if they don't get their money. You need to
be careful. How well do you really know them? If they
find out that you have Power of Attorney and might be
able to get ahold of Dale's insurance money, your own
life could be in danger. Did you get a chance to talk
to your contact about them?

Should I be worried for you?

Your friend, Heather

Bruce's reply re: his boat, the pictures, and the mob

Heather:

The simple stuff first. Clearly, you and your friends must be detectives. The first picture was taken early in the afternoon, and later in the day I jumped in the water on a whim. So, yes, I changed my shirt between pictures. So sue me.

My boat is a Newport sloop, about 15 years old, that I purchased used a few years back. I used to dock it at a marina in Long Island, but found I wasn't getting out there often enough. Now I'm afraid it's trailered in the backyard most of the year.

Now for the more complicated matters. I still have not heard from Dale, and obviously you haven't either. The fact that no bodies were found suggests he's still out there -- though whether or not that translates to safe who knows. I posted an email to his website to try and encourage him to come in from the cold. I hope and pray he'll answer.

This email from Sal looks bad -- however, we do need to make sure it isn't a fake. The reason I say this is that I received a couple of emails from some of your fellow 'investigators' back in March in which they had set up email accounts and were passing themselves off as members of the Marzano family. Not saying this is the case here -- particularly since it certainly sounded like Sal talks. If true, this is horrible. It certainly suggests that my business has been running in part on mob money -- though I assure you, not with my knowledge. My own business dealings have not been with Sal (who is not exactly the brightest star in the hemisphere), but with his Dad and eldest brother. I suppose it's possible that only he is involved in this business, but you said three brothers, and that means all of them. God.

I am in fact meeting with the person I mentioned tomorrow. Although she is a part of the family (by marriage, I think), she sounds like she is not involved in any wrongdoing. I will feel her out -- in particular, she mentioned today in a mail to me that people from the FBI have been snooping around their restaurant. This sort of exposure could be disastrous for my business, even though I haven't had anything to do with any illicit enterprise. You have my word on that, Heather.

I'll let you know if I learn anything more tomorrow evening.

Bruce

Crossover post perhaps??

Could Heather try to find out the name of his boat?

Thinking if Bruce isn't that sharp on the IT side of things he's probably got a fairly simple password to his log-in, & that might be a possibility...

(OK I admit it, I'm a bit stumped at the moment! If I keep talking rubbish, someone might use me as a Watson figure to their Sherlock Holmes and work it out from the things I didn't notice!) Embarassed

Simple Photoshop. There's a brush that gives that texture, just use it with white on the edges of your picture. Voila, cool edges!
(Yay! School actually paid off!)

Just a little background here. Bruce says he owns a 15 year old Newport Sloop. The most common Newport Sloop of that vintage was 28 feet long, with a beam of 9 feet, 9 inches, and a draft of 5 feet, 2 inches. It has a displacement of 7000 pounds. They had an inboard 21 horse Universal Diesel motor, and featured wheel steering, which was unusual in boats of that size. They could sleep six (fore/aft cabins, plus the dining area converted to a double bed). They were a very popular coastal cruiser and live-aboard boat, and were often marketed to first-time buyers. Used, they now cost about $20,000.

Standard features included a Teak Interior, Teak Hand Rails and Hatch, Stainless Steel Sink, Electric Water Heater, Alcohol or Propane Stove/Oven, Microwave, Ice Box, Compass, Barometer, Canvas Cover and Winch Covers. Typical factory add-ons included a VHF Radio, LORAN, Stereo, Television, and Shore Power and Telephone Adaptor.

Now that I got all that out of the way (Although I'm landlocked now, I'm still a sailor at heart), it looks like Bruce will be meeting with Angie tomorrow. That may prove very interesting. I look forward to his email tomorrow evening.

Bruce writes to Heather BEFORE he goes to visit Angie @ ET

Heather:

A quick note before I head out the door to meet my new 'friend' (she is
family, but not that close). No offense taken -- I think your picture would
certainly arouse the interest of most red blooded males.

A sloop is a sailboat, but only has one sail that is rigged fore to aft (front
to rear, for you landlubbers). It's sleek, and racy, but not built to withstand heavier wind conditions. She (all boats are shes, if you didn't know) is called Apollo's Mirror.

Yes, we are the designers of Sons of Don as well as Empty Threats. It's
a testament to how little the boys must pay attention that nobody has
mentioned any problems with the site to me. I'll mention the glitch to Barry, the lead designer on that one. And I must say, it's a good idea to stop calling attention to my connection to the Marzanos by putting a different link up on the A-Fame site.

I'll let you know what I learn tonight.

Bruce

Googling "Apollo's Mirror" yeilds nothing.
Trying "Apollo Mirror" has a few hits:

From the Earth to the Moon
During Apollo missions to the moon in the 1960s and '70s, astronauts placed a mirror on the surface of the moon so that precise Earth-to-moon distances could be measured. By reflecting a laser beam from Earth off the mirror, researchers on Earth could observe the beam's round trip time and the distance to the moon could be calculated to within a centimeter!

Bruce reports on his Date with Angie

Heather:

Sorry, Thursday was pretty busy at the office. Wednesday evening went
pretty well, although it did not start out promisingly. When I arrived at the Empty Threats restaurant to meet my 'contact' (who is turns out is Don Marzano's niece, though she grew up out in the southwest US), both Sal and Marco were there, and staring holes through me all during our business meeting. Given the email that you sent me, just seeing them made me uncomfortable; hopefully I kept my discontent off my face. But once we had finished our business meeting, I convinced the young lady that a dinner out would be much more pleasant than one there, even if the latter was on the house.

We found a nice steak and seafood place not too far away -- I had a
well prepared steak au poivre (I know that I should stay away from red meats as much as possible, but I can't resist a good steak now and then), and Angela my companion had seafood. I did get to show off a bit, by recommending a nicely bouqueted Bouchaine Pinot Noir (the 2000 special reserve, don't know if you've ever tried it or are even a wine fancier). She had indicated that she has an interest in movies and show tunes, so I took her to see Chicago (my second time, at least her second as well). I would certainly say that it is a film that wears well on repeated viewings --just a well conceived and executed show from beginning to end.

I felt her out as subtly as I could about her connections to the family, and if she has any knowledge of illicit activities, she is a heckuva liar. I'm inclined to think that as far as she knows, she's helping to run a restaurant. She certainly doesn't seem to think much of Sal or Marco. As a result, she may be willing to help us find out what's really going on -- but it's too soon to ask that at this juncture. I am hoping to take her to a Broadway show sometime in the next week or two, and continue to make her feel comfortable with me. Truthfully, she seems at first appearances like a nice, intelligent young woman -- if I don't sense that she has the inclination for getting involved in something like information gathering, maybe this will wind up as nothing more than a few pleasantly spent evenings. Not that there's anything wrong with that, either; it has been a little while since I just spent a relaxing evening in the company of a pleasant, attractive female (Sigh!).

So you live in Vegas, eh? Can't say that I'm ever likely to drive the boat 90 percent of the way across the country -- but there are trade
association and computer conventions in Las Vegas all the time, and who can say when I might find the time to attend one of them. If and when I make it out your way, I'm sure we could find a rental boat that we could take out onto Lake Mead for an afternoon. As for yourself -- should you ever find your way to the New York area, I would love to extend my hospitality in showing you around (hopefully the description of last night will suggest that I know a little something about showing a young woman a fun evening).

I feel guilty -- an entire message spent, and nothing about Dale (the original reason for our communications) until the close. Have any of you
'investigators' heard from him in the past few days? If so, is he alright? I sent mail to his Synthasia account a couple of days ago, but once again have heard nothing. With all his difficulties, he needs someone he can trust -- it seems like I ought to be that person, but because I did what needed to be done and forced him to get help I'm somehow on the outside looking in. If you have any news, please let me know.

Bruce

If I can have the cooperation of others, I'm inclined to NOT tell him anything about Dale (and definitely NOT about Meaghan's items) until I get confirmation from Dale that Bruce can be trusted. So I will not tell him about any communication from Dale (actually, honestly, I can say that *I* haven't heard from Dale). Wonder what will be Angie's side of the story (i.e. her perception of the date).
