Marble Hornets: Musical? Hey everyone, I've been a lurker for quite a while on this forum, but I've decided to finally come to the sunlight
Anyway, just the other day I was thinking of something like a Marble Hornets musical based on the entries of Marble Hornets. However, I don't know if I am actually allowed to do this, because I highly respect that the crew behind Marble Hornets own their work. If anyone know if my idea is possible, could you please let me know so I can begin production? If the answer is no, I'll still attempt a Slender Man musica but without using Marble Hornets. I just think the entries in MH have so much potential.
Thanks for the long read!

Hope this helps! They have the rights to everything in Marble Hornets under something called intellectual copyright law. There's always the chance that they didn't copyright what they did, so you could steal it, but I know you respect them more than that, as you said, and you just want to have a bit of fun.
In the United States, you can get away with making money off of your music by making it a parody. For instance, the Scary Movie franchise didn't have to get the rights to all of the movies they spoof, because they are parodies. The songs would have to be parodies, of course, and there are still legal problems you would have to work around.
If you are not interested in charging anyone, then go ahead! That's the way those Harry Potter musical bands perform! If you are not making money on their idea (and not because it sucks, but because you are offering a free service) then it is perfectly legal to do so, depending on the distribution. Ask them for permission, sign a nondisclosure agreement, and all shall be well!

Thanks guys! And no, I don't want to make money off this, and I have planned it to be a parody of Marble Hornets, much like some of the MH parodies on youtube now.
And does anyone know how to contact the crew behind Marble Hornets? Thanks for the help so far.
Oh by the way, I live in New Zealand in case that means anything.

I would say, send a message to the youtube accounts? o_o You can run a search on facebook for 'marble hornets' to get the guys who seem to be in charge of the project, too.

Thanks for the support guys, but I've decided to base my movie on the Slender Man mythos, and not Marble Hornets mostly because I feel that to sign all these agreements and things is going a bit too far from what started off as a Slender Man fan project. I'll add a few 'nods' to Marble Hornets, and the bones of the story is being stalked by the Slender Man but other than that I think I'll keep it orignal. I'll try and post a bit of the script in a few days soon as well.

So, if you're doing a Slenderman musical... does Slenderman sing? o_o

He's the narrator!
I think I'll write that, I need some extra credit in drama anyways

Yep. Slender Man will sing. Most characters will, but Slender Man will be pretty hard to do, but I can change the voice to give it a Slender Man feel. This is going to be quite a low budget video, but hopefully the end result will be good.

You know, if this were the 90's, I can imagine video copies MH the Mustical getting mailed back and forth between the same weird people who used to share the same awkward and terrifying videos Everything is Terrible collects...

Little update: I've began creating some songs on a garage band like software. It's slow work but I'm getting there! I'll post a bit of the scipt soon. It may or may not include a song. Expect it in five days max.
