 		Jay has really become an unreliable narrator.

I don't think "I don't want to acknowledge TTA's new Reply" means "I'm scared shitless that Slender Man and Masky are going to mind-rape me." I also don't think that "I don't want to know anymore" means "I actually DO want to know, because I have a death wish, despite my previous action."

But from what I've seen with the Marble Hornets series, seeing Slender Man can cause intense interest. Much so that it's lethal.

(X) as 'marked for infection' might make sense too. It is hanging over the door with Masky's pills, isn't it? And we see Alex encounter Slendy a couple of times outside that building in the woods that has an (X) etched into the rock. It's in Alex's home when Slendy begins earnestly stalking him, scribbled onto paper. It's scribbled small-wise on a sheet that Jay retrieves from Brian's house.

(This is all disregarding the original thought that (X) stands for 'operator'. It's likely that it could incorporate more that one meaning, too.)


Coughing, headaches?

Marked for infection or sickness, something like that, seems to connect the dots to me.
