ARG Movies = lawsuit ?

Hey guys ive been thinking about starting my own ARG about an upcoming movie. If i decided to do this could I get sued or get into any trouble? Lets say i wanna do it on Batman Begins (i dunt but this is an example). If I said like "Batman belongs to WB only" or something like that, then could I ? please advise! Confused

Generally, you'll be walking a very fine line if you use any recognizable character from a film. Those are the studio's "intellectual property."

We (the PMs of Project_Mu, aka Metacortechs) set our game in a Matrix-y world, and on completion, Warner told the UK Guardian this:

Quote:
"As long as the 'fan fiction' is not in any way connected to commercial enterprise, as long as it is not offensive and doesn't degrade our intellectual property, we generally take no action," said a spokesman for Warner Bros., after looking at the game.

I think it might differ from studio to studio, but WB considered us fan fiction.

?

what if i make everytinhg vague....supply no first names only last names or vice versa...no pictures... only 1 logo and the rest is fiction?

or i was thinking of doing it on a past movie on DVD...im gonna take the matrix on dvd for example (***EXAMPLE***). Lets say i wanted it so they had to type in their like proof of purchase from their DVD and if it contained a certain string of numbers it would give them access to the next area. Would that be legal? Me using their proof of purchase for my fiction game? Or if maybe i did it for a new movie and they had to put in their movie ticket ID or something liek that? Help!?!?

i personally wouldn't use anything story critical from the movie. as an example MU used metcortex, which was the company neo worked for in the matrix. in the films the only thing seen was the title, we don't really know more about it than that. WB wouldn't be so concerned about that (which is also evident because the domain names were available).

As for using proof of purchase i don't see a problem with it, but you might be asking a bit much. are people really going to go out and buy it for the game you create? as for your suggestion of how to use the PoP, i think it asks for brute forcing, also have no idea how you'll work that into the game.

I think you should remove your game one step from the movie. eg. base it in that world, but not on the movies premise.

Also, don't make it look like your offical. Be careful not to suggest that.
