[WILD SPEC]Google Connection?

Something odd...

Dana has a Gmail account. These are impossible to get without an inventation... with the POSSIBLE exception of that one time they offered some to some Blogger users. Dana's blog is a Blogger blog (blog is a fun word!). Coinsidence?

(One funny thing: Lady777 is a Hotmail account, which is run by Microsoft. Note that Gmail is a competitor.)

They've offered them to Blogger users for a while now and still do. It's not a closed window. There have been a few specs before on why Dana doesn't have a hotmail account, I think one of the most sensible ideas was just that it's more realistic to not have everyone use the same provider Smile Plus, using a competitor's services means you can road-test them AND not waste your own disk space on an account that's going to get a /lot/ of email. Smile

Also, the fact that Gmail offers a gig of free space makes a lot of sence with the downpour of emails Dana must recieve. I wouldn't be surprised if the Hotmail emails weren't forwarded or POP3'd to the Gmail account for storage every so often.

Uh. SP has a hotmail account. Smile

Still, I expect it's an uber-premium one.

Ack. I meant Dana. Lack of sleep, sorry. It's fixed.

I thought it was interesting that Dana had a Gmail account (as do I), but I don't think it's particularly significant... Other then the fact that her journal is on Blogger, so (if anything) it would be suspicious for her NOT to have one. It's really not that hard to get a Gmail account. Once you know somebody who has one, because after a while, they start giving you invites to give out, and you get more and more invites over time...

Rather like a virus.

Though I did offer the SP a Gmail invite so poor Aunt M could finally have her regular email address back. Smile

A puppet master would be able to get a GMail account easily. Last month something like a million invites got sent.

[EDIT] Deleted repeated phrase.

Bungie is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft owns Hotmail.
Bungie is using G-Mail and Blogger- from Google, a competitor.

Why would MS allow Bungie to do that? MS probably would have given them a premium Hotmail account with extra space. Why Gmail?

And I think Blogger stopped the beta invites before Dana's blog was made. Strange.

maybe to make the MS-bungie/Haunted Apiary/HALO connection less obvious at the beginning?

I very much doubt that Bungie are running this. It would be Microsoft; they have the experience and the resources.

That makes it even more strange. If Microsoft did it DIRECTLY... they would never choose Google.

Why not? It's not like they'll invite someone by using gmail, and advertising it doesn't get many more users for google -- since gmail is invitation only. And I don't think asking a friend for an invite would help much, since most (probably) are like, "I have some gmail invites. Want an account?" If they're even considering inviting you.

Edit - So all they're doing is using up competitor's stuff. At least, from my point of view...
