Well, looks like I'll be making a trip to Chicago or Nashville. Why can't they ever show St. Louis any love? Oh well, I always want an excuse to go to Nashville. Love that place.

Edit: Wait....so the countdown is counting to Wednesday, February 24th at 8AM PST, 10AM CST, and 11AM, EST? That makes no sense. If there were going to be a live event at the end of the countdown, why would they schedule it in the middle of the week at times where most participants would either be at school or at work?

I'm thinking this is counting down to the instructions for our next stage.

And thats why i dont think it'll be a screening. The hunt for the bowling ball was a weekday in the morning cuz i remember clearly ditching class to go look for it and had a term paper due. So either a hunt or some sort of game we would need to decipher.

I think the link at the bottom of the page is just to bring people to the front page to sign up. I've seen links to the countdown page on a few other popular website, the links lets people discover the sign up.

There's still lots of room on the rest of the countdown flash for more information, I suspect it will start coming on Monday.

With the cities being all over the world I'm thinking it might be some sort of simulcast, possible with some footage. Maybe even an address from the man himself, but we'll have to see.

Though which Portland, Oregon or Maine? Maybe it's going to be both.

Adding to my suspicions that this is just going to be a preliminary thing is that we're given no specific locations; not even any GPS coordinates or anything like that. I'm holding out on making travel plans for a couple of days.

yeah actally they would. they just do key cities even during mid week. if pl can make it they do if not they dont. its how it went down for tdk too. i think they do it to minimize excessive crowds if its a big thing. makes it a bit harder if its just a pick up location.

Well, if that's the case, looks like I may end up skipping class on Wednesday to go to Nashville. Anyone else planning on hitting the Nashville event, should it happen?

Found THIS interesting comment on the First Showing.net article:

"can't tell you how or what i know, but there's a tron:legacy event happening at The Bridge in LA on 2/20 -apon Feb 20, 2010"

According to Google, The Bridge is a movie thater in LA AND HAS AN IMAX THEATER IN IT! Looks like this confirms my free IMAX screening theory.

Only if anonymous tipster got the date wrong... 2/20 is today, and the countdown doesn't expire until Wednesday.

Whatever's going on - I seriously hope that having a Bit isn't a prerequsite to admission/taking part, cos I'm still shy one package.

Regardless, at that time on Wednesday, I'm pretty centrally located in London and ready to dash off to wherever, whenever.

I think we are going to get the notice when the countdown hits zero, but the event won't be right then. People need at least an hour to really get to something, and from a peek at event scheduling at IMAX locations in some of the cities there's already regular showings of other things during the day. If anything happens at an IMAX that day, it'll probably be in the evening. I suspect - and hope - it's actually going to be a later date.

This is marketing, and you want to make the event accessible enough that people feel they can participate. They also don't want to turn off what is right now the seed of interest in the item they are marketing - the film.

For those of us thus far 'Bit-less', hopefully they'll bring some to hand out at the event. I'm still holding out vain hope that one will arrive before Wed.

Yeah, I think the countdown is not to the event, but to information on the event. I'm guessing there will be some sort of signup page when the clock hits zero, and then it's first come first serve.

WSS did the same thing. I remember the Miami screening tickets disappearing in minutes.

As for Orlando, we have 3 IMAX theaters that I know of. 4 If you count the one at the Kennedy Space Center, where I watched star trek this summer.
There is an AMC IMAX on Disney property though with a good size shopping center right there to hold a scavenger hunt. I could find something at the base of the House Of Blues water tower right across the walkway. Or Planet Hollywood, the magic shop, or even the art gallery.
This could be real fun if done right. I won't get out of work until almost 5 PM but I'll be right there. I'll Just have to be prepared and take my bit to work with me. Rolling Eyes

Now that Indianapolis is out, Nashville is my closest city. So if I go, that's where it will be. It's 3-4 hours away though, so this is going to have to get a lot more exciting in the next few days before I'll make that trip.

countdown

Hi - as some of you may know, I'm in London and so putting up my calculated countdown time according to GMT as it is now
Time of calculation: 2.44 am on 21 feb 2010
03:19:20:00
which would make it 24 feb 2010 22:04:00 [or 10:04 pm] GMT

does this make sense for everyone else as well?
is there any significance in these numbers?
24/02/2010/22/04/00 relating to Tron?
Been SO long since I saw the movie...

Hope this might help someone
Putting GMT as easiest for people to calculate from that I think? Also - where are 42E based? California - 8 hours before by my calculations [will be wrong here though] which would make it 14:04 for them to be doing stuff online - reasonable for them.

Perhaps might be worth people putting a list of where they are so people could meet up in relative cities / car share even - put location up then discuss via pms?
