Maybe we're looking to deeple into all this.

I'm thinking "You've seen my name before" simply refers to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ed Vargas

don't know if this is the correct solve or not, but posting as spoiler just in case:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
if you sum all the dewey numbers you get 6047 which is hacker speak for GOAT. enaxor remembered that there is a William Stauffer on the TT employee list and maybe GOAT -> Billy -> William? His name is circled with a question mark beside it on the employee list and he's not one of the confirmed deads in the accident newspaper articles (although a Ralph Stauffer was killed in the accident).

It's a bit of a stretch but including it here just in case it's relevant...

(and i tried goat.html to no avail)

?????????????????????????
Age is right. This is a dream we previously considered as linked to CMH.

Ooh, interesting. Could this be the first real link to Dream Projector?

That 1337 solution certainly seems a bit of a stretch. It could be the solution though. A strange one if nothing else Smile

This updated message is now on UM in the "about this site" link. I'm putting it in this thread because it may be a clue as to what we're suppose to do with the Dewey numbers.

9/4/04 Update: Lots of e-mail lately. So many notes on such a large scale. Some of my notes are even yet unread. Please be gentle with me if I don't get back with you immediately.

Amanda mentions notes and scale. Could this be a musical hint?

I emailed her earlier about the dewey numbers and she replied "Got you note. thanks." Together with the update on UM, I think it's a musical hint. Somebody posted earlier that doing the paragraph/letter thing with the dewey numbers gave "baaccbbbbagB" which all happen to be in the a-g range of music notation.

Haven't been able to work out what it's referring to yet...

(and I take back my GOAT thing LOL)

I'm sorry @_@. Anyways, I've looked at those notes, but I don't think there's a standard chord which hits all of them. The 'B' might be b flat. And... uhh, well all of the notes can be next to eachother if you put the c an octave higher... And playing them doesn't seem to ring any bells over here. =[

Well this is a wav file of the notes played out. I have done nothing but played them and recorded them.

Deleted post because of the "absurd" size Wink

I'm going to accuse that .wav of being 'absurdly large' in ratio to...maybe helpfulness...or...time folks want to spend waiting. Here's an mp3 of it.

[SPEC] what if the numbers are frequencies? They're aren't massive, but, hey, the standard tuning "a" is 440 Hz.

Using an online Frequency calculator to find the closest note and MIDI number for the pitch:
158 -- D# 2 (51)
238 -- A# 2 (58 )
315 -- D# 3 (63)
363 -- F# 3 (66)
370 -- F# 3 (66)
475 -- A# 3 (70)
584 -- D 4 (74)
613 -- D# 4 (75)
649 -- E 4 (76)
727 -- F# 4 (78 )
745 -- F# 4 (78 )
810 -- G# 4 (80)

Well, most of them are too close together, but this is possible. Seems very chromatic, like it's almost set theory. Yay for me being a music dork.

EDIT: Friggin' smileys.

Unfortunately, Lobo's (and, in turn, Arben's) notes are a half-step off for some reason. So here's both the piano notes at their correct pitches, as well as the chords played on a guitar. I apologize for the guitar being so terrible, but my guitar's crap and I couldn't play a B chord properly to save my life.

[EDIT]
In my piano recording, I forgot one of the Bs in the string of four of them, so I redid my recording and updated the file here.

Also, I added an MP3 of the notes suggested by wvlf_prowler's post about frequencies
[/EDIT]

It's probably unrelated, but I just thought I would note the similarity between the beginning of the piano part and the piano part played in the movie "Eye's Wide Shut". The secret society has a blinfolded piano player playing the same thing over and over. I thought that was interesting, but probably unrelated.

ok, this is not another of my GOAT theories, promised!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As posted earlier, I emailed Amanda about the dewey numbers and she replied with "Got your note. thanks." together with the latest update on UM, it made us think music was definitely the way to go.

After hunting far and wide, dashcat, enaxor and I still could not crack this thing. So I emailed Amanda again with "thanks for your Note. it was music to my ears Wink don't know what yet though... b a a c c b b b b a g B" The notes being the results of doing paragraph/letter with the dewey numbers.

To my surprise, she replied again with "clipserve/B000002US8001001/0/102-6249362-9321722". After digging around a bit, I found out that clipserve is what amazon uses to stream samples of its music. So adding the standard stuff on amazon in front gave:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B000002US8001001/0/102-6249362-9321722

which was a sample of "The Crying Game" from Boy George. This led us to

http://www.urbanmythology.net/cryinggame.html

and in the source of that page: <!--A man Ed Vargas. More to come.>

We have the answer but not the method so we're still in the process of trying to back solve the numbers/notes seeing if they are indeed from the song "The Crying Game".
