just back....

My daughter and I just got back from the screening. Fun stuff!!! Thanks for the T shirts, no black light to see if codes exist.

To the preview, Alan Bradley is telling the lost son about his Dad, Flynn. A message has been received from the abandoned Flynn's Arcade. (Oddly not vandalized at all over the past decades, but I'll give 'em that for story sake, Wink ) A Tron machine slides from the wall to revel a secret lair with hardware and a digitizing laser.

Enter the computer, great 3D. Recognizers, Light Cycles, et al. Some fantastic 3D sequences with the characters. I was looking for a 42E rep to talk about the phone thingy but I'll just email them. I can see the "game" catching a breath for a little bit and then ramping up to a feverish pitch over the summer. BUT one never knows.

Colour me STOKED!!!

There's gotta be a code on the t-shirts...

unless there's a pattern amongst the addresses and codes that go with the light-cycles that we don't know of yet....

Hello to the people I met on the line! That trailer was AWESOME. I was the first guy in line with my fiance here at New York (proud? Ashamed? Whatever). And yes, we both got double t-shirts (heh heh heh)

The trailer: Flynn's son is a 20-something guy who meets up with Boxleider in some abandoned warehouse or something. Bradley tells him that he received a page from Flynn's old office (people still get pages?) and that the phone's been disconnected for 20 years. Lot's of "I don't know if I wanna see my daddy wah wah" but Bradley points out that in the two years he was around, Flynn predicted so many things and was talking about changing the world, and said he wouldn't have given all of that and his son up lightly. He then (I think) gives him a Flynn's token.

Flynn's son goes to the old Flynn's arcade which still has all the old arcade machines everywhere. In the very back, by itself is a Tron arcade. Flynn's son pops a token into it, and it moves aside to reveal a hidden room. Once there, what looks similar to Dillinger's old desk lights up and scrolls a shitload of numbers across the screen for a split second (my impression it felt like a countdown). Then, behind him you see the updated laser head for a second. Obviously he is zapped in.

From here it dissolves into your standard action movie montage of split second images of sexy women and things moving fast with explosions. Things of note: the updated enforcer. I also saw (I think- again, it was a split second) what appeared to be a 4-wheeled light vehicle. Why do I describe it like that? Well, think kind of like the batmobile, where the wheels are predominant, but even more so. Like the lightcycle, I suppose. Four giant wheels. We see it doing the standard action movie thing where it rushes towards the screen, then pops the parking brake and spins sideways.

At the end, Flynn himself comes out and meets his son. We hear the following:

"Dad. It's been a long time."
"You have no idea."

After this, we see for a second what looks like a light-cycle race and crash in what looked almost like a computer-version of a nascar arena.

So, that's it. I also got some ticket codes. Doubt it'll mean anything but here they are:

8C81779685A416DC- person from Mass.
87563F5F684B704C - person from NYC
9119783A8FC743CD - person from NYC
BF12CEEE3AAEE710 - person from NJ

And...that's about it. It was a pleasure meeting some of you at last. Dude in Toronto- we were all missing you and asking about you and I'm sorry to hear you couldn't make it. It was fun, but aside from the t-shirt, it wasn't that huge of a deal. The securty head was a bit of a butthead, and the metal-detector wands were just ridiculous. I knew I should have brought my camera and filmed it. Ah well. It'll be out soon enough.

Perhaps I'll just follow up to clarify that I did enjoy it and the trailer, but I could understand some of the negative criticism, and I think there was a lot of missed opportunity at these events.

I probably would have enjoyed it even if I wasn't already in town for other reasons Smile

Incidentally, I just did a quick calculation worth seeing.

So, from the original movie it looked as though he spent at least a day in the computer world. I'd have guessed maybe three, but let's use one as a lower estimate. When he returned, the time taken was so short that the chair hadn't even fallen back yet- near-instantaneous. However, for ease of calculation, let's say it was one second. So, one computer day = 1 real second. I can walk you through my calculations if you really want, but essentially it works out to this: twenty years in our lives equals 1,728,000 years in the computer world.

Almost two million years.

The mind boggles.

Trust us when we say that 42E won't "ruin" anything.

I mean, think about it... they just organized almost simultaneous meet-ups in over 25 different locations worldwide, some at rather obscure locations off the beaten path! That's an almost unprecedented logistical event if you ask me.

Problem with theater viewings is that you have to deal with the theater administration. I'm guessing that wasn't a road block at Comic-Con.

Well, when your non kissed ass gets banned, we will see who wins. Follow the rules and stop being a douche.

Newbie? Banned? WINS? Hahahahaha... wow. Thought this was an ARG site. You do need to get outside to participate in these types of things, don't you?

And if the rules involve dealing with losers such as yourself consider any potential banning a blessing. What a sad, bitter life you must lead.

Just checked one of the shirts with a blacklight. As suspected: nothing. Possible the others will yield results, but I doubt it. Especially on a t-shirt, something like that would show up.
