they won't wait 7 months. this is following pretty much the same timeline as TDK. they had their big shindig at comiccon and then start ramping up the worldwide campaign about 9 months before the movie. if they stick to a similar schedule we should see some new stuff every couple weeks or less.

actually even 9 months out it was pretty sporadic. It wasn't until 2-3 months prior to release that TDK really got rolling.

I just want to propose this as an idea to probably rule out. But the more negatives we have the closer to positives we get, right? On that assumption: should we be looking for clues in Tron 2.0 Killer App? I realize that it came out long before all of this, but since it was something of an influence, maybe we should look for...mmm...call it sources of inspiration. The game was chock full of memos and emails and numbers and such.

I think it might be safe to rule it out, but I'd like to hear what you folks think.

No, the director answered that at the LA sneak peak. Tron 2.0 is not canon for this movie

Something along the lines of:
If you rule out the possible, then only the impossible remains...?

Just to put it out there for the people who say "try every possible combination" or "I've traied EVERYthing": For the /derez page, we know the input is limited to 20 characters. If we assume the code is case-INsensitive, that allows for 27 characters (discounting the use of underscores, but allowing for blanks) and 10 numbers, for a total of 37 possibilities for each of the 20 spots, or 37^20 combinations, which is 23122483666661158726686253786801 possibilities. Allowing for case-sensitivity is 63^20, or 9.7008767986634971679096921938014e+35 possible combinations (again, without underscores or any special characters). Finally, in the zerohour page, 66 cards, plus allowing for blanks, is 67^66, or 3.3184629886919489076502869632639e+120 possibilities, just using brute force. Somehow, I doubt anyone will, or can, run all of these.

Please, please, please... Do not even THINK about using brute force.

Just to put this in perspective, that is far, far more possibilities than there are atoms in the entire galactic super-cluster

I wasn't thinking canon (it really wouldn't have worked considering we never saw Flynn or even heard him in the game except through memos and such) but I'd say that sounds like closing that door. Thanks for the input before I started scouring the records.

For the Tron fan, Tron 2.0 is actually a fun game and quite true to the source material. I highly recommend it for its entertainment value.

Beat it twice, very fun. Something died inside me when they said they didn't use it for source material. Means they didn't use the comic probably as well.

Hey guys, just checking in. I thought I'd point out that the Tron fans at http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?do=top&id=372604 are kind of pissed with you guys. Clearly they're not used to the collective puzzle solving that comes with ARG territory, and are mad that not everyone here is a major Tron fan.

For my part, since I didn't play in 42e's TDK game, I will have to adjust to the slower pace of this one when compared to the classic ILB pace. Wedensday was pretty fun, although I was the 6th one to arrive in Atlanta. I am dying to get a Flynn Lives shirt but don't want to buy one on eBay, hopefully there will be more opportunities to get one!

Thanks to a suggestion by JohnVision, I'm going to try to replicate the pictures from the board. I'm going to bring my fiance's portable blacklight to the movie theatre and shine IT on the posters in the lobby area. Here's hoping I can get something out of it, and even better- get something out of it and not get kicked out of the theatre before I can get the info down Smile

A lot of people on here are Tron fans, but it's true - some aren't. I haven't seen the film yet (it's next on my list). But I would say the majority of the people here are Tron fans, otherwise they wouldn't be interested.

And I think they've got to understand that ARG's are a source of entertainment too, just like films. I think as long as we continue to work together (and we have been, as Tron-Sector is on the wiki and has been sourced for information within this thread) we'll be able to "solve the game."
