[DATA] City found and where you called?
Area codes, cities

If you grabbed the phone during the "Gridlock Rendezvous" on Feb. 24th, please post the city you are in, the area code and first three digits the "Contact Me" number is, and (if possible) your phone's area code and first three digits.

Don't post the entire number!

Just what city you got the phone, what city you called for the "Contact Me", and if possible, the area code and prefix.

Here's mine:

I picked up the Phoenix, Arizona drop

919-866 was the "Contact Me" number
919-866 is the phone I have

Both point to Raleigh, North Carolina

Whatever theory you have for this probably goes to pot once you factor in the international phones. The London number to call was just a mobile phone number - that is to say not geographically specific.

In very short terms, the first 2 digits of a number here mean a lot:
01 or 02 are land lines, with area codes specific to cities etc
07 is a mobile phone number (obviously the phone itself has this, and our number to dial had this too)
08 is a special tariff, usually lower than regular cost, e.g. freephone numbers
09 is a premium rate number

Well, I should change my wording a bit then. I'm mostly interested in where the phone was found, and where it called. The numbers themselves would be a nice bonus (and as you said, might end up not working with my theory) but reading a few comments by other people who had phones, I've got a gut feeling there's something to it, and when GreenAnarchist asked about it in the other thread, it just all of a sudden made sense.

So far:
GreenAnarchist found Raleigh, North Carolina; called Arizona
badhand77 found Minneapolis, Minnesota; called Minneapolis, Minnesota
EDGECRUSHER found Phoenix, Arizona; called Raleigh, North Carolina

Now, it's either a mess-up and phones went to the wrong places, or there's a pattern to it.

I also haven't been sleeping well for a couple days, so that's not helping.

I am the Chicago operative.
The phone is a 773 area code and the Call Me number is a 312 area code. Those are both Chicago area codes. 312 is usually reserved for downtown. I reversed look uped the Call Me number. It is a Virgin Mobile cell phone.

Mine was in Denver was a 720 area code, which was in the Denver area as well. And looking up the number... it looks like it was another cell number.

I guess my theory didn't hold up. It looks more like a small goof getting the right area codes to the right cities.

Sorry about that Sad
