Encom International
Info on the Encom site

Well, the Encom site went live with the forums, and we have yet to glean anything other than some backstory from it. The following interesting things have been found that haven't led to anything yet:

- On the offices page, 7 cities are blinking/flashing. Why?
- List of unique games on the products page

Is there anything pertinent hidden on them? I've been looking at the images to see if there's anything hidden, and I've done a rudimentary crawl of the HTML source. I haven't seen anything.

We do have a few flash apps (timeline, offices, products) that could yield something with input, I suppose.

Is this just backstory, or is there something there? Theoretically, Flynn would have a large motivation to hack the site for his company, no?

As for the blinking cities, I'm sure people have already worked on this but I was bored so there. The definite ones are:

LA, NYC, Lima, London, and Tokyo

The two stand outs for me are the ones in Norway and Australia. One would assume Oslo in Norway but the dot doesn't match up, and there's really no city near that location that would make sense. With Australia you might automatically think Sydney but that's also in a completely different location and the dot matches up with Darwin as best as I can figure.

At the moment, I don't think there's anything to it other than adding some more depth to the game. I'm sure it will come to serve a purpose at some point though.

I'm unsure about the blinking cities as of yet. They might represent places where Encom tech is about to go live or something. Maybe the misplaced dots were just errors?

Good work, hughesst. You are a true geographer. All of that could very well come in handy later.

Hm. In the forums they talk about the importance of GPS. Maybe some sort of coordinates (lat and long?) from the cities will glean some info?

I tried to enter the GPS coords for the screenings in the derez site with no luck, perhaps trying the 5 flashing locations (minus the two "misplaced" cities) will lead to something?

Just saw the link is included in the resources thread.

I live in New York so I don't really know anything about GPS. I would think than an entire city wouldn't have a single GPS coordinate, or that it would change between companies, maybe. That's why I thought latitude and longitude might be worthwhile. Again- I freely admit to not knowing anything about GPS.

First thing might be to positivly identify the australian and norwegian cities.

SO...
Press Conference...

I have a conflicted theory...
If we take the message literally.. it's a -convention-... which there's no tech cons, and about a dozen comic/sci/fan cons "forthcoming" (i'm giving it the window of the first half of the month.)

If we assume that, per usual AICN style, it's a paraphrasing...
then the best bet would be the Game Developers Conference in San Fran March 9th-13th....

Any other possibilities?

Darwin, Australia... the dot isn't dead on, but it's the closest major hub in that region.

Haven't looked up the one in Norway, yet.

OK... looking at google maps...
Closest I would hazard? Hettfjfelldal.

Comic-Con starts in exactly one month, too.

Quite frankly, I would bet on that one more than I would GDC; GDC is an industry conference, whereas Comic-Con is a fan convention.

Even sooner Emerald City Comic-Con (Seattle, WA) and MegaCon (Orlando, FL) are March 12th-14th.

And just a random note, that's not really anything to note... but just to be accurate...
on /offices.htm

that's not Seattle. That's Portland, OR. The next one up is Vancouver, BC.

GDC is next week; however, while it fits the in-game company profile, I doubt it suits the real-life campaign.
