while to an extent I concur that GDC doesn't seem like it would be ARG appropriate, it's still a possibility. At least until we know more.

I guess what I'm saying is we shouldn't rule anything out completely. Thankfully the list of upcoming Cons is relatively short (I think maybe 6 or 7 in the next two weeks, across the continent.)

I've dug into the .swf file too, and been trying to see if the .css files are relevant. It's been bugging the hell out of me that there is something there, I just know it!

I did that a few days ago, but when I went to the IRC for help I got chastised, and was told that it's considered cheating to decompile a flash page...

Which is frustrating because I mmmmmmmaaaaaaayyyyyy have something which may or may not be sorta relevant. And I want someone to confirm/deny it. Ooooh, I know- maybe I can post the line of code and someone can tell me "Nope, Brok- you're way off. That's just the line saying that the button has to be this color"

I'm going over all the .jpgs from the site. The only thing that's jumped out at me so far are the banners for each tab:

board.jpg
397x157

future.jpg
338x157

heritage.jpg
382x157

investment.jpg
499x159

news.jpg
955x157

offices.jpg
394x157

investment.jpg is 2 more pixels taller, and for some reason the news.jpg one is super wide.

I have starred out the particular piece of data I'm referring to so I'm not accused of cheating. Several of these functiosn appear to be undefined within the page. Those that are defined, I have given their definitions. I realize this doesn't say much, but it's an action from the main page. I think what it's saying is something like if it receives he string "*****" to check witht he server and verify it to be true.

private function _2011a61b() : void
{
;
_2011a21b._20114101b(_2011971b, "*********", _2011ac1b, true);
return;
;
}// end function

cardbase/action/main

2011a61b???
2011a21b server request
20114101b ???
2011971b string
*********- ???
2011ac1b ????

I don't think it's cheating.
(and i hate to bring it up but...) during TDK we had a flash game that there was no obvious solution to. It took a player cracking open the flash program and finding the "winning combination" in the code... and 42E did not come out and slap our wrists...

The objective is to solve the games by any means necessary... so if that means a li'l hacker style action, then so be it.

as they say...
GIT-R-DONE!

Alright. My attitude was that as a TRON game, it was inherintly expected to be hacked. But that's a different story. See below- no, wait, I'll post this in the cards are, it's more relevant there.

My attitude is that I've never even installed a Flash decompiler because I don't need to know how to break the game.
So far (that I know of), nobody's done more than put "shame on you" messages in their flash projects and I've never seen Flash used with the specific intent that it would should be "hacked".

I'd prefer to play the game the way it was intended to be played, don't care if I get bragging rights about "finding" something and don't need to cause additional grief for the creators.

That said... If I truly thought the puzzle du jour intended for the Flash to be hacked, I'd download that decompiler, without hesitation.

If I saw anything along the lines of a shame-on-you, I'd probably have closed it. As it is, I think that nothing too useful could be garnered from what I saw- but again, I'm not a programmer.

I don't particularly care about bragging rights. What I do care about is whether or not I'm considered some cheating idiot. Had we not all been chasing our tails the last few days, I wouldn't have even thoguht it. Am I impatient? To an extent, yes,and to another no. If I have a vague idea of what is going on, or I know that within a timeframe something will happen, I can wait. But hearing nothing makes me impatient.

An example. I wait for the bus. If I can a dynamic sign that says I need to wait half an hour, I sigh but wait, no problem. If I show up and have to stand around and wait half an hour, I'll be pissed off.

By now, we are suddenly hearing news abotu this Encom press conference, which we all suspect will be sometime this weekend. Fine- but I didn't hear about this until today.

Am I impatient? Call it more zealous. I think.

I've been "wrist slapped" before for Flash decompilation. More than once, actually.

Well, what with it already having been done, my not having a clue what I'm doing, revealing nothing useful, and having been done before the announcement of the press conference (which it would seem obvious was intended as the next step) I'm not going to worry about it too much. That said, I'll be more cautious in the future. I think that if it gets to be more a matter of a month or so of us chasing our tails without any new clues I'll be more ready to entertain the idea, rather than merely a few days. I've been a little over enthusiastic. Sorry all.

this reminds me a lot of the press conference for Harvey Dent when Maggie Gyllenhaal did a little recorded bit. would definitely be cool to see.
