The ones we checked were in the business center right next to the front desk. Numbers xxx-xx79 and xxx-xx61.

The phone's there somewhere. We just gotta find the right one. The employees I asked only knew about the phones there in the business center. It'd be worth asking around, and checking down the hall or through the secondary entrance just south of the main entrance. We saw offices down there.

Oh, and don't let them talk you into going on a timeshare sales tour. Wink

If memory serves me correctly, they only do the timeshare sale thing for couples... Oh well, only one way to find out... I'll Bee there... (man this is starting to get corny)...

I wish they had a map of their hotel on their website, but no luck... hmm.. 2 phones acroos the street at what used to be wet'n'wild... and no luck in the business center... interesting...

Let's roll them dice and find out what happens.... Twisted Evil

Crapped out... Yeah, I think it's safe to say that the phones are prolly at Wet'N'Wild.... the only other phones they could have called (at the Hilton), that were pay and were accessible, were the little phones across the hallway from the business center, that took phone cards or credit cards.... couldn't even double check as traffic was asstacular... I must admit, it's never taken me 1/2 an hour to pass Circus Circus before... will try tomorrow at Wet'N'Wild...

Hey!! PM's Throw us a bone here... give us an idea of what corner or phone number os something... hell, put 'em all in the Fashion Show Mall or something... oh well... Sad Crying or Very sad

Y'know, after checking other threads, it's entirely possible that this one isn't live yet... so, there still might be hope for the Hilton... Shocked

OK, we gotta get this one tomorrow, guys (talking about candidate, since the other audio file is found anyway).

So, here's the plan. Let's meet on the Las Vegas Blvd. side of the Wet 'n Wild Parking lot at 5:15-5:30 pm. If there's enough of us, we can cover all of the phones.

1: 2 phones at the Wet 'n Wild entrance (only one of which I think works);
2: 2 phones at the Arco just south of there, just in case they do ring through;
3: Find more phones at the Sheraton.

I'll get there early and try to find any more, but my money's on the Wet n' Wild phones at this point.

Take note that the park closes at 6pm tomorrow, so there'll probably be people around. Be prepared to kick people off or fake making a call if you have to.

See ya there!

Based on the coordinates given on recipe3 page for "candidate" and searching with Tiger Geocode database the phone should be in the Hilton Grand Vacations Club 2680 Las Vegas Blvd South. There seem to be two addresses for the Hilton 2650 and 2680. The 2680 address comes up in the geocode search with the exact GPS coordinates given.

vpisteve checked there though without any luck so far Sad

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!

Well, no ringing phones at the Wet N Wild entrance, although the scenery wasn't bad. Met Kobun there, but it was a bust.

There's another bank of phones inside the park, but I can't imagine they'd expect us to pay 30 bucks, would they?

Hmm, so according to Geocode.com the Hilton address is the exact coordinates listed, so there just must be a payphone there we haven't found.

Thought we found them all, but I'm willing to head back tomorrow. At least there's a Starbucks.

If anyone wants to show up (2680 Las Vegas Blvd), we've eliminated the payphones in the business center, as I was there two days ago and they didn't ring. Kobun says there are also some credit card phone in the lounge downstairs. Might be worth checking out more thoroughly.

I also even headed upstairs to where the rooms are. No phones that I saw, but hey, I didn't try the top floor, in case there's a restaurant there. I don't think there is, but it's worth a look.

So, Team Vegas, it's my spec that this phone absolutely has to be at the Hilton. Now we just have to find it.

Edited because I don't know a Hilton from a Sheraton Razz -vpi

Oh great... found this while trying to figure out how exect GPS coordinates are...

"Blunders can result in errors of hundred of kilometers.
Control segment mistakes due to computer or human error can cause errors from one meter to hundreds of kilometers.
User mistakes, including incorrect geodetic datum selection, can cause errors from 1 to hundreds of meters.
Receiver errors from software or hardware failures can cause blunder errors of any size.
Noise and bias errors combine, resulting in typical ranging errors of around fifteen meters for each satellite used in the position solution. "

Just great.... so, on the average we have a +/- 15 meter radius from each said GPS location... bloody wonderful...

I think, from a meta standpoint, the fact that geocode.com gives us an exact match is pretty conclusive. It's at the Hilton somewhere.

Maybe the pool??

Edited because I'm a dork -vpi

Some Clarification on Coordinates...

Regarding Kobun's concerns....

Just to be clear here, calling these "GPS Coordinates" is misleading.

What we have on the ilovenbees site are latitude and longitude coordinates. These are EXACT locations on the suface of the curved earth.

When you take that exact location and try to put it on a flat map is when you can get into problems of incorrect Datum selection. Assuming that the Mapquest folks have their stuff in order, the map you get by putting in the coordinates will be an exact match of the coordinate location. This is all math, which computers are very good at.

As for GPS unit error, that is only a problem if you are attempting to use a GPS unit to find the coordinate instead of using Mapquest.

The GPS unit receives signals from satellites and uses the signals to tringulate the location of the unit on the earth. Depending on the unit, this can be HIGHLY accurate (to within an inch) or relatively inaccurate, like the 10 meters mentioned above. As with many things, the cost of a unit will give you an idea. ($100=inaccurate, $5,000=highly accurate)

So how does this affect you?

Not at all. It sounds like you folks figured out the location from looking up the coordinates using the address. That should be right on. It has been from other reports.

I am a little confused, since someone said the phone was in the Hilton, but now vpisteve said the Sheraton....The address is for the Hilton Grand Vacations Club, though...could it be in:
Waves Pool Bar & Grill?
The Marketplace ?
Not being there, I would think a hotel might have LOTS of places that could have payphones...maybe even on each floor...not an easy task to find.

Please don't be discouraged. We are all depending on you!

anyway.....I put together a map....Maybe you could mark the spots you have checked so far on a similar one...

good luck. We all hope you are successful!

Hilton, Sheraton....whats the diff...

Not like there aren't 777 other hotels in the area either.

good luck for tomorrow. I hope you get more people what with the holiday... It really helps to be able to spread out to find and then cover more phones.

OK, here's an annotated map with where we've been.

There just has to be another at the Hilton (repeat to self: Hilton, not Sheraton).

I'm thinking the pool, but I'll have to sneak in there or as an absolute last resort, go on a timeshare sales tour of the property to get in.

The Marketplace is a little mini-mart, and they don't have a phone.

I'm gonna leave early and really recon the place tomorrow. We will succeed. We must! Razz

Nemesis, I have seen thy face, and thou art.............Sheraton.....no, Hilton!

Y'know, for some odd reason, I have this funny feeling it might be Turnberry Place (Frustration? Hope? Possibility? Exasperation?)... while me and vpisteve were waiting outside of Wet'N'Wild we noticed that Turnberry Place was in the area, but the entrance was off of Paradise (strangely, on the list on http://www.theblackforge.net/princess-coords.html they always state paradise as the location)... I'll try there tomorrow, although I might have to act as though I'm waiting for someone who lives there so I can blend in... oh well, one of these freaking phones should be the Axon (We hope)...

But in our case, I don't think the title Axon Hunters apply, something closer to Axon Questors or something.... (our search seems more RPG-like for some odd reason)....
