Under News on the Facebook group, she says:
Quote:
3/15 Been getting lots of help, but I'm not any closer to finding the owner of the flash drive. I'm thinking of putting up fliers.

A bit odd, considering it's not the 15th yet.

Just a couple of things:

morph1138 posted earlier about William S. Burroughs' poem. That poem was recorded on an album titled "Dead City Radio". Could that be a lead for DCR?

And, for whatever it may be worth, one of the musical pieces playing in the background is Cole Porter's "Night and Day" (for reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV5e7mWcQJE it's the instrumental section when Fred & Ginger start dancing. Smile )

I'm not on Facebook so if anyone cares to share this with LuckyLonely, please feel free.

Copyright goes back to 2005, visible posts go back to almost a year ago, and it's affiliated with what seems to be a well-established webcomic. Almost certainly a coincidence.

Does anyone have the software to get a spectrogram reading on the sound file? Maybe there's a hidden image or something.

I'd do it if I knew what software to download. Confused

For spectrograms, I'd recommend Sonic Visualizer. Beautiful program =)

Didn't really see anything useful on the spectrogram. Where those weird tones are, there is a weird little design corresponding with the sound, but that's about it...

Edit: Here's a screenshot...why is it I keep editing my posts in this thread? lol.

Thanks! I'll download that when I get home.

Sweet, thanks. Thought it'd be worth a shot. Smile

Well, after stepping away and looking again, I think I see letters! A 'G' for sure, and then it looks like a 'B' and a '3'. Although I could be wrong. I'll run it through the program here in a bit after breakfast...

Don't know if this has anything to do with it or not but there was a Project Icarus in the 60's done at MIT about blowing up a meteor that was going to collide with Earth (think Deep Impact / Armageddon).

Maybe that has something to do with it? The estimated death total leads you to believe it would be a catastophic event.

I also found a Project Icarus that had to do with flying balloons into near-space altitudes for less than $150.

Edit (lol): Dudes, I think I found something. Looking at the spectrograms and listening to each channel individually, I've made some discoveries. Earlier, I mentioned the voice that came right after the morse code, I'm pretty sure it's saying "Listen while you can."

Here's the big discovery: There seems to be more morse code in the track. I've found very faint pings, which show up just fine on the spectrogram, and they don't seem to conform to any sort of rhythm. Maybe a code? Here's a screen shot so you can see what I'm referring to...

I can't figure out how to isolate these pings, but based on the sound of them I can't help but feel they're there for a reason...anyone with more knowledge of this kinda stuff wanna give it a go?

looks interesting and i haven't had time to get involved in anything for a while Smile

i emailed LL and got a very quick reply - she told me everything of note is on the blog and/or facebook now.

listening to the mp3 - the words between the morse code and the start of bill boroughs poem, sounds a bit like "see them while you can" and has the feel of an advertisement almost. like moving the dial on an old fashioned radio and getting a mix of programmes, adverts and announcements.

<guywiththegun> not seen a spectogram like this before, but would the faint pings be the siren we can hear all the way through the mp3? perhaps points of highest pitch, or volume? again the siren reminded me of the old 50s radio broadcasts that were pre-recorded in case of emergency, such as a nuclear attack.

anyone with a view on what exactly we are looking for? is the word on the back of the drive our goal?

That morse code there in the image says "DCR" twice.

Edit: Doh you already knew that.

A simple goal hasn't really been expounded for us yet. I'm trying to isolate this pinging a little better. It's not a siren, it's almost like the sound you get when you put your finger on a desk ringer (at a hotel or something) and give it a few thunks.

It's intermittent, it comes and goes. The best way to see what I'm talking about is to listen right after the morse code quits. You'll hear that voice saying "-something- while you can," just before the poem starts. Sorta in the background while the voice is talking. Also, at about 50 seconds in, just before the music starts, you can clearly hear the beeping three times. I think someone described it as "a heart rate monitor". This is the beep that keeps playing the whole track.

What I need is a way to isolate the sounds at a certain frequency range. I've searched around for a way to do it, but I'm not having much luck. The sound is only occurring in the range of 3962-4048Hz, so if I could isolate that part of the track, you'd be able to hear it perfectly.

As for hearing it without isolation, it seems like only listening to the second channel has made it a bit more obvious for me.

It's not a siren, it's actually covered up by the siren in the beginning, but it's still there. A siren would appear as a wave going up and down on the spectrogram in a certain frequency range, not flat bars that only appear intermittently. I'm kinda been going down this lead for a little while, I may just write down the dots and when they appear...I'll keep you guys updated, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Edit: Okay, I've worked out how to sorta isolate the sound so it's a bit easier to hear. However, when I was looking, I saw this in the comments field when I tried to save: 00000000 00000210 0000076E 0000000000669E82 00000000 002531A3 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

It looked like HEX code to me, but entering it in a translator and translating to ASCII only gives me gibberish...I'm going to finish up with this ping lead and then start on the code here.

Edit2: Posting the filtered sound. The pinging noise is very hearable in the beginning now, so at least you'll know what I'm talking about. I've gotten rid of a lot of the noise in the lower range of frequency...
