Not having played the game, I find this really surreal. o_o Great photos, but the cross-over is going straight over my head!

In Bioshock, the Splicers are people that used gene-altering tonics to pretty much gain superpowers, at the cost of their sanity. Several of the Splicer models have masks.

A few nights ago, around 1am, I was lurking the Bioshock thread on /cm/ when I thought "Hey, I spent so long making Masky's mask look good, maybe I can use it for something else...I know! A Splicer!". I posted the idea because I got it so late, and I didn't want to start a project that would be lame. Given the feedback I've had so far, I'd say it was a pretty cool idea.

I wasn't going for "Masky AS a Splicer" so much as "Masky-INSPIRED Splicer".

Ahhh, I see! After googling around, it seems like the splicer masks are more... disheveled looking? At the very least all of the ones that I can see have blood splatters on 'em. What if the masky-mask has some of that added in? It might help it match with the dress (which is hawt, by the way. XD) with its rips and tears!

Hurp durp, the picture below is supposed to be similar in style to that Alex one from earlier. Again, it's a rough, playing around with colours and lighting and stuff. I don't know how much I like this one. Something's wrong with Tim's face but I don't know what! I think that it's just that trying to mash refs from the videos with different lighting is beyond me, a little bit. XD

Still trying to think of something for a Jay picture... I already have him holding a camera up in a different picture, but whenever I think about that character it's pretty ubiquitously holding a camcorder thing. Maybe having his back turned so it's like we're looking over his shoulder? XD We kind of are, as fans!

That Masky!Splicer outfit looks amazing! I agree with Dray and think you should dirty up the mask a bit, maybe add "cracks" as well.

Also, Dray, STOP BEING AMAZING. I think my brain blew a fuse from the awesome of that. New desktop!

splicer masks are supposed to be masquarade masks left over from a new years party just before a civil war broke out and everything went to hell. They use them to hide their deformaties.

Masky-Splicer is SO EPIC.

And that painting is easily one of my favorites of all the ones created so far. I love the Tim-with-his-face-partially-obscured-by-the-mask. Not to mention the awesomely subtle blurred zeroes...

EDIT: Perhaps the thing wrong with Tim's face that you can't figure out is that it has too many lines? He looks very old in the painting; I'm not sure if that was intentional.

I agree. I was noticing that he has some planes next to his cheeks when I was drawing and I think I over-emphasized 'em when I started slapping colour on. D: When I go back to colour over top of the lines I'll be careful not to over-emphasize those! (I think I was also aiming the light at the wrong angle when I was processing 'where does the shadow fall?' around his face. Maybe I can show these to 'em and ask for photo reference later. *snrk*)

I just made a sound no man should ever make, thank you for making me question my gender, Dray. As for the splicer outfit, I approve thoroughly. Although some tears in the leggings definatly wouldn't hurt! I'm looking forward to so many projects here- I've kind of just gone into a dry spell with my own art. ._.

Seconding Dotman, only I kinda made a sound no HUMAN should make. I love this like whoa. LIKE WHOA, DRAY. I... I cannot resist... I I I

Yeah okay, it's my desktop now. Brb, showing this to my entire family.

And it's like the (X) is glowing, awesooome.

I probably should have saved the Tim-picture until last. XD I'll finish the Jay one and everyone will say, "that's nice... but more Masky?" XDD

Yeah, I was trying to get the (X) symbol to look all badass. I figure that if I'm going to do posed images, I might as well try to include a foreground element to create some depth. Background element as well, perhaps a shadow cast from that (X) symbol in Tim's case...

Hmm, I need to do a Slendy image. I'll save that for last. >:D

You people keep coming up with these awesome desktops faster than I can come up with matching icons, themes, and passwords that my roommate and friends won't guess because they're all MH freaks too. It is a curiously blissful frustration.

HELLO NEW DESKTOP FOREV- err...until Dray or Miss D comes out with something even more epic, sooooo....sometime later this week then. o.o

On an unrelated note, I am having a strange bit of trouble locating a proper Masky-esque mask (now there's a tongue-twister!). Seems like all of the Party City's, costume shops and craft stores in my area are sold out. For those of you who have masks, where did you get them? I'd rather not order one online without some feedback from you guys; the masks I've seen here are really well done. Very Happy

I got mine at Michaels craft store, only four bucks. :B

Dray, hope you don't mind, but that is my new desktop. I've already managed to scare myself once, when minimizing a window! I'm now having to explian to work who he is!

MagicNein, nice cross over! Like the idea of blood splatter on the mask, tho I understand if you want to keep it neat after the hard work of making it. I need to get myself a mask, Sancto (local party shop) had sold out Sad

I find it hilarious that everyone is finding those masks sold out. How many people are buying them?! XD

It's easier to make more when there is new content to snag from, of course. >.> <.<

Miss D's doing another amazing thing right now, probably even as I type this. XD

A WORLD OF YES HOLY SHIT THAT IS AWESOME.

I agree with Dav, smooth out Tim's face a bit to see if it helps. And the Mask, I'd say. But still it looks incredibly awesome and I can't wait to see the final product. I'd also totally be all for an over the shoulder shot of Jay; I like different angles and perspectives and whatnot.
