Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forums, I just joined like a minute ago. I got my badge last Friday, I was sooooo excited. I had been the posts here and I'd been wanting to post and ask questions but I never signed up. So I got my badg, but the latch that goes through the hole in the badge was broken! I tried to fix it with krazy glue, but... So I created a Flynn Lives account for my brother and then got him a badge. THen I said, why not contact 42 Entertainment? Email sent off Friday night, and yesterday they sent me a new lanyard, flynn lives stamp and a stamps.com sticker. My original package did not come with a stamps.com sticker, but regular postage stamps. Anyone else find this strange? FSURobbie, maybe you and anyone else who havent recieved their badges should email 42 Entertainment. Maybe even ask for some Flynn LIves tokens too

Hi, and welcome to uF!

Thanks, I did e-mail them but I haven't heard anything back from them yet. What e-mail address did you write to?

Quick report, my badge just came through! The customs form attached values it at one whole dollar!

And yes, Group 7 clearance here too.

Given that 42 and San Diego are both in my state, I guess I'm still anathema at 42. Not sure what I did. But, have fun guys.

Sorta feeling that way too. I even asked my neighbors, in hopes that it was put in the wrong mailbox. Either one of them is a Sekrit Tron Junkie and a liar, it's been lost in some USPS black rabbit hole, or it just plain wasn't sent. Confused Crying or Very sad

You didn't use a picture of your cat, did you enaxor? Seems non-human pictures are not acceptable.

Wonder if anyone used a pic of Jeff Bridges or Bruce Boxleitner? Laughing

lol, I didn't think of using my kitty picture. I was going to post the picture I used, but I apparently have uploaded way too many things. My limit has been reached.

I don't remember the specific terminology but I am pretty sure that there was something in the small print that it HAD to be a recent picture of yourself. I am thinking that they are probably rejecting all pictures that are deemed to not be meeting that criteria.

My guess that we will need the badges to "infiltrate" the Encom conferences. To be fair to the spirit of the game, it would be hard to get through the security clearance with a badge that has Pedobear on it or something else equally as geeky.

badge ID statistics

For what it's worth:

I have 10 badge "ID Codes". Doing some basic statistics on them:

10 codes, each consisting of 8 hex digits.
Converted them to binary, this yields a total of 320 bits.
Of those 320 bits, 158 of them were '1's.

That's 49.3% of the bits being '1's. For this small of a sample size (10 samples), that's close enough that I will call it 50%

If this were some kind of encoding, it would likely stray from the 50%

Therefore, I'm going to go out on a limb and theorize that the codes are either:

1. Completely random... generated by their MCP when the cards are printed.

2. Composed as the sampling of hex digits from an MD5 hash (or other hash) of the user's name, password, achievements, join date, completion date, salt, game creator's favorite color, etc.

Either should yield about a 50% sampling of bits on or off.

For the record, here's the list of "on" bits for each "column" of the data. I will not share the data, since that would give out the user's id codes, in case that's important later in the game.

4,7,4,5, 4,6,2,7, 7,4,4,7, 7,3,9,4,
2,7,4,6, 4,5,6,4, 5,4,3,3, 6,4,4,7

this means that for the first hex digit of the code, there were 4 '1's, 7 '1's, etc... Notice how these stray as high above '5' as they do below '5'. that's a sign right there.

Yes, I realize this was futile. I knew that from the get-go. And I realize that this is breaking the "fourth wall" as it were, of the ARG.

I sent it to info(at)42entertainment.com. btw, they have phone numbers you can call and addresses to send them strongly worded letters too. I am such a fan that i wore my Encom badge to school today and told people that I actually worked for Encom! Some poeple believed it. At one point, I had my badge detached from the lanyard and stolen by my friend who later gave it back after forcing me to confess that Encom was a fictional company.
EDIT: The President and CEO of 42 Entertainment started working for Disney in 1980 as an industrial engineer.

Unless of course you were to show up dressed as Pedobear. I suspect there might be other complications if you did though.

BleuLlama, were any of the hex id #'s anywhere close to each other in sequence? Do any of the #'s contain zeros?

Example: if my # (I'm gonna use 4 digit hex values) is ffd6, is anyone's close in that range? ff85, ff93, blah-blah-blah? Or are they all pretty randomly spaced?
Do any of the hex #'s contain 0's or are they all 1-f?

Just wondering.
