The new challenge is up, and it's a small shooter. Fairly fun, but the turnout isn't big and the bullets are kinda erratic.

The turnout is not big, no, but it's mindless and fast. I find I can grind points a lot quicker, and mindlessly, with this challenge, than any of the others.

Incidentally, the preorder page page is up, but I don't know how people found it, nor can you actually preorder yet. Exclusive minifig though, and in-game speshul item. ++

2 or 3 pages in the new LEGO catalog advertise pre-order. So its pre-pre-order . . . Razz

 On a Mac
Finally!

I managed to play the game through Wine on a Mac.

I was really surprised when it started up!

Native WINE, or something like CrossOver? I have a Windows laptop that I treat like a games console, so it'll definitely get there, but my primary machine is a Mac, so would certainly like to waste time over there too ;)

So, this is entirely unsubstantiated (since it's based on a blog post's comment, which we all know has been faked plenty of times), but it does coincide with the April 2nd countdown timer on the minifig missions. From a comment on "Future Plans at MLN" (MLN is the social/browser-based game at mln.lego.com, which already has a LEGO Universe tie-in, and which has been stated elsewhere to be the place where LEGO Universe achievements will be displayed/shown):

Quote:
BLOG ADMINISTRATOR:
As I have previously mentioned, you have done well to keep the LEGO Universe BETA under wraps. Your integrity is greatly appreciated!

For a new LEGO promotion being developed by the makers of the Bradford-Rant Institute, we are looking for a few devoted fan sites that show initiative to keep LEGO fans informed. Although we cannot tell you exactly what we need your help for, you can be sure that if you are picked, you will receive an exclusive preview at an upcoming event, as well as a special graphic for your page!

If you are interested in participating, simply write an entry on your site, no more than 500 words, as to why you would be a good example of a fan site and why you should be picked. This is not a "secret" thing, so it is okay to tell everybody on your blog about it. However, please do not talk about this on any other site; as this is an experimental promotional technique, we would like to keep it confined to the sites that are being invited.

You will be informed via comment post of your acceptance before the promotional launch, which is on April 2nd. (Try to get the entry up at least a couple days before that so we have time to review it!)

This is an exciting new method of getting people ready for a LEGO.com event, and we look forward to your response!

(Hint: Try to get as much support from your readers as you can!)

I got it to work yesterday, in Wine, but now it just doesn't seem to work. Evil or Very Mad

Gotta fix that. You must apply a damn lot of Winetricks to get it going.

 Strange
Hmm.

Seems like I can not install it as an application, I must "reinstall" it every time I want to play it in Wine. The files are already there, but I can't create an app. Sad

More updates: the minifig countdown now shows 66 days again, but the "John@LEGO" is still regularly posting comments at http://mylegonetworkblog.blogspot.com/ indicating that a new promotion starts on April 2nd.

This Breaks the Rules

Posting about the special LEGO promotion as you did on this topic goes specifically against what LEGO requests. Please remove it.

Actually, it doesn't - the policy is specifically address to the blog administrator (i.e., the eponymous "you" indicated by "BLOG ADMINISTRATOR", per John@LEGO's comments; the same "you" asked to write 500 words on why your site rules), and not onlookers. In fact, if you really want to get picky, _your_ comment, telling me to delete my comment, is legitimately against the stated wishes, as it both confirms and addresses the promotion ;)

EDIT: And, yes, I do see John@LEGO's followup comment regarding the "leakage". I'm more than happy to state that I am not a member of your blog and thus, am not "on your blog". Nor am I a "true member" of your blog, inasmuch as I'm not a "true member" (which I assume you'd like to infer as as "loyal" and "subservient") of Unfiction or any other blog or forum that I comment on. However, like TicketMaster's attempt at restricting deeplinking, like Scientology's attempt to censor the web, like The Golden Jigsaw's attempt to silence Unfiction posts about its games and puzzles, attempting to control the dissemination of information, once posted on the Net, is folly. As an AFOL, I love TLG, but it's sadly mistaken about how the Internet works. They're not the first people to try such a thing, nor will they be the last to fail at it.

To concede a small point, however, I'll edit my above comments to not link to your site at all and instead, to Google's cache of your site. TLG can then attempt to persuade Google that they are "leaking" information about a promotion, and that TLG knows more about the Internet than Google does. Or any of the other major search engines that offer the same capability.

So it appears that, even though the restrictions never applied to me (even John@LEGO's followup regarding the restrictions, where he specifically addressed the "readers" versus the blog owners, didn't clearly state a denial), I have been blacklisted from said site. My legitimate answers to the latest post (which are really "hey, free marketing questions!", so having John@LEGO lose out of them is a bit counterproductive) are not being published, nor will any of the blog owners get back to me on why.

Ah well.
