[TRAILHEAD/APRIL FOOLS JOKE?] Prometheus/Astringent Gaming

Hey all, so someone came into the chat wondering if we knew about hex code and stuff, and linked us to http://astringentgaming.com/successor-to-wii-and-super-mario-galaxian-announced. This is the April Fools joke for the website. But there is a bit of code after the actual message (you have to highlight it to show it).

It translated to http://astringentgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/dugaalmpillaydnr.wav

When I took that .wav and put it in audacity, I switched to spectrum mode and got the email address 0713100bcSPLATgmail.com

When I emailed it asking what it was for, I got a reply from someone named Prometheus stating the following:

Good! Someone has replied.

My straits are dire indeed, so I will only be able to respond intermittently. I'm scared to stay in one place for any considerable length of time, because chances are high that I'm being followed.

Truth is, I need help. I hid my message on The Astringent Gaming Journal because major sites would be more likely investigated by the enemy, and I'm looking for people with specific skill sets. I can spare no details at this point, because I have no reason to trust you.

Know this: the balance of power leans toward injustice, and I have information that puts me in danger, for it may be able to prevent a possible catastrophe. If you are willing to aid me, please register on the Astringent Gaming Journal's forum. I hope that it will lead you to allies, and the site is not known to our foes. It is important to keep a low profile, but for now at least, I think the forum will be safe.

I need to keep moving.

Hey, found this email on http://astringentgaming.com, what's it for?

So, yeah. I post this over on their forums too, seems a little "cliche" to be a real thing and is very possibly just another April Fools joke or something to get attention for their site... OR it could be a really fun ARG! Either way, just giving you all the heads up. Smile

Yes, but did you look at the member list and see that a "Prometheus" is registered?

I think it may just be an April Fool's joke...
Check out http://astringentgaming.com/i-regret-to-inform-you posted by MasterofOrigami (done before the Wii/Super Mario). In his post the same letters dugaalmpillaydnr are struck out and a number of words are misspelled (10 total; i.e. notebly= A, bass= P, whiting= R) which comes out to APRIL FOOLS. Also if you highlight underneath the paragraph it says TEST, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with this.

Ok, I take it back. Now I'm not really sure anymore... I finally took a look at their forum and there were some interesting posts:

MasterOfOrigami wrote:

What? When did all this happen? I had no idea Origin was making something like this! This is sweet, I'm certainly getting in on this. Oh and BTW if you haven't guessed already my post was merely an April Fool's Joke. I will be back this Saturday for my April Fool's Indiesplosion!

Also

That's odd...they are crossed out. The only thing I did on my post was the spelling errors, if you fix them they spell out APRILFOOLS. I was hoping someone would pick up on that. I don't know who changed my post.

Now it appears that OriginOfBob and MasterOfOrigami happen to be Administrators for this fairly new gaming forum, so I don't know if you were right and this is just a ploy to get us to register or if this really is arg? Dunno

@snorkle256: I noticed you signed up at their forum; Are you able to view their member list? Is Prometheus also a member?

Ok... I misread your earlier post to be a question to Crispy; not a statement that Prometheus was already a member there. My apologies... Embarassed
