I think it might be worth mentioning that Isaac Asimov wrote a story called The End of Eternity and its main character was named Andrew Harlan. (Seldon mentions the name Harlan.)

Yeah, in order to solve stuff, you need clues. And the definition of clue is:

Quote:
Something that serves to guide or direct in the solution of a problem or mystery.
tr.v. clued, clue·ing or clu·ing, clues
To give (someone) guiding information: Clue me in on what's happening.

Just, you know, for future reference, dear PM.

I'm probably way late on this, but the page "Denounce" on the main website is written on different paper and in different hand writing to the rest of the pages (or so I can gather)

I have no idea where I should be looking at for clues.
The only thing vaguely related to Asimov revolving 'magnifico' is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus,_Robot_Fighter
But that's probably going in the wrong direction.

EDIT: How foolish of me,this has already been mentioned, Magnifico is also the character The Mule, disguised as a clown(?), Magnifico Giganticus being his full name.
I'm not fully familiarized with Asimov's works, forgive me.

Btw, not sure if its been mentioned (i have spent the last 6hrs or so going through the whole thread) - but at the bottom corner of Mallow it might not be "hilroy" but "kilroy".

Robert Kilroy Silk was a former chat show host in Britain about 5 or so years ago (kind of a Jerry Springer type character), he went on to start up an extreme right wing political party called Veritas.
Did I also hear "Veritas" mentioned earlier? Just another thread to follow - bear it in mind!

Also, isn't one of the alt texts something along the lines of "come to think of it, it was always Hats"

Doesn't that kind of suggest its not hatshoe at all, but hats hoe?

Woah! Fresh stuff!

End of Eternity looks interesting, maybe some clues there even!

I read so many of the characters and all that Foundation stuff wikies etc, but managed to miss that one, haha!

distilled i think you might be right! Very Awesome!

Hats Hoe!

Its so obvious also after all!

But whos Hat now and whos Hoe? Still seems puzzling to me.

Sleep now, think moar later.

Has it been pointed out before that 'Probably' and 'Apples' have the same hidden message in the source code? ("It's called Hamburg until you shape it into a disk and put it in a bun. Then it becomes Hamburger.")
Mistake or clue?

And what if we're actually searching for a file again?

Innocence has it, too.

I agree, I think we are searching for a file.

Unfortunately, I've tried all combinations of hats.html, hat.html, hoe.html and then the jpgs and nothing. Maybe I will introduce myself to HatsHoe himself and see what he can turn up about his hoe?

EDIT:
I have been watching for a while and thought it was about time I throw my two pennies in, for what its worth. I mailed Mr Hoe/Hat (?) with this:

"Good afternoon, I hope I find you well - Dear HatsHoe. I've watched the drama with great interest and feel its time to step into the stickstream.

Alternatively, Seldon tells me it was always Hats.

Then, perhaps, it is not a shovel we need to uncover these clues - but a hoe?

Kindest regards,

Distilled"

I'm hoping my politeness will illicit a speedy reply.

Also, incidently, on the Hamburger front:
On http://www.hatshoe.org/hardin.html he says "I guess this was an attempt to be "political" and making some ass-fisted jab at the Establishment..."

Isn't it supposed to be Ham-fisted? I dunno, maybe needs another brain to work out if its relavent.

Laughing

Yes, you should definitely try that!

But hey, what if he is actually a she? Being hats Hoe and all. Or does that even make sense in any way?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_series

Just going through and trying each of the names from this series. Hardin, Seldon, Mallow, Mis, The Mule - all characters which appear already. Can't find any more from the major characters list. Sad
I suppose we could try the major planets? Probably better done by someone who actually knows the series!

I really don't want this ARG to die, I've been following it for a while and it looks really interesting.

I have tried most of the planets i could find, but that was when i first read those wikies, and im almost sure i tried "magnifico" back then and got nothing.

So its ofcourse possible HatsHoe has added even more pages later on!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Asimov%27s_Foundation_Series

I think the pages seldon-themule are in the right order chronologically...

So, Seldon starts it, and the mule ends it?

http://asimov.wikia.com/wiki/The_Mule

After reading these for a few hours again, "it" could be the Foundation?

http://asimov.wikia.com/wiki/First_Foundation

http://asimov.wikia.com/wiki/Second_Foundation

or the empire?

http://asimov.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Empire

or maybe im thinking waaaay off again Very Happy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Empire_%28Isaac_Asimov%29

"The capital of the empire is the planet Trantor, and the novels in the Foundation trilogy describe its fall, over a period of centuries, and a period of anarchy and decay, in which two foundations are instituted in order to restore the empire back to its former glory, a parallel to the fall of the Roman Empire and the Dark Ages."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trantor

Trantor is Rome mmmmkaaay.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bel_Riose

"Asimov loosely based Bel Riose on Flavius Belisarius, the last great general of the Roman Empire during the 6th century AD (and known as one of "the last of the Romans", i.e., imperials)."

http://asimov.wikia.com/wiki/Trantor

"Trantor then became the most powerful planet in the galaxy with quotes like "All roads lead to Trantor, and that is where all stars end""

Fascinating stuff, but i dont know if its going to help solve anything.

I know Rome is mentioned somewhere on hatshoe tho!

Its alluded to in Castles. Although I think it was mostly agreed that it was more of a link to Medieval total war II rather than Rome Total War.

I am so tired of copying and pasting singular words into the taskbar behind hatshoe.org/

I'm hung up on the Ham thing. Hamburgers, Hamburg, ham-fisted. I found this:

"Hamburg's official name is the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (German: Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg).[4] It makes reference to Hamburg's history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League, as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire, and also to the fact that Hamburg was a city-state and one of the sixteen States of Germany."

But thats so flimsy a link I dunno, doesn't seem obvious enough. The clues in HS seem to be hidden so well up until the point at which we find them, and then they are so glaringly obvious you wonder how you ever missed them.

The problem is that there are so many pages, alt texts, source codes, twitters, facebooks etc etc etc to sift through you don't know where one pattern ends and another starts. Gives me a headache and I've only been properly looking for a couple of days.

I eagerly await my reply from HS (or HH? Razz). Maybe we can find a more concrete lead.

EDIT: Terminus is a planet in the series too...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another thread. Just going over some older posts and I saw that the debate over the "adopt the paradigm of a pedagogue" line of thought petered out quite quickly.

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=19409

In my experience I imagine he must be alluding to one of the great grecian philosophical pedagogues - either Socrates, his pupil Plato, or his pupil Aristotle.

I imagine it is actually Aristotle we are talking about, due to his emphasis on empirical evidence and observation (the word "observe" is emphasised in the second line of the msg to jaeger, also HS talks about being "careful and diligent" - both qualities valued in empirical enquiry). So, in my opinion we need to adopt the pedagogical paradigm which Aristotle proposed. I need to read up more about it, but it might be worth a look. Maybe to uncover some of those hidden pages we've been missing.

Socrates and Plato are worth a look too, as Aristotles work is mostly a critique of theirs - but Aristotle seems a good lead for now (especially seeing as it appears to be just you and me, Loopkin!).

owh yes castles!

But i was thinking that what if it isnt about a game?

He's talking about eventually encountering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poor_Knights_Islands

which are pretty far away from Florence/Firenze or Rome, im guessing he says he is lost at the moment! And has been for over a week..

Then theres Saint Columba and the Loch Ness monster, which is in Scotland.

He mentions 7 names which i think could be somehow important, i mean, maybe we have to find out who he is and in what time etc ? Then maybe find a page or something, like with Seldon!

But that page is older so i think its not the most important one to solve, anyways..

/Edit Hey! Can you come to that chatroom someone posted on this thread?

http://chat.parachat.com/chat/login.html?room=Hatshoers&width=740&height=500&bg=000000&fg=7F7F7F&lang=en

Would be alot easier and less spam from me on this thread Razz
