Tagging ARGs
what sorts of words would you use to describe ARGs?

We toss around a bunch of words and often have pretty heated debates on what is or is not an ARG (or an ARE or a PEE) but how often do we just braindump a bunch of words that could be used to describe these wondrous creations (whatever they're called).

I was going to try and be creative and come up with a game to manipulate y'all into doing my work for me, but I'm still sick and not feeling very creative, so I'll just be honest... I'm trying to come up with a base list of words that could be used to tag the games in ARGdb. Games can have lots of tags, so this isn't a mutually exclusive list or anything.

So, what say you? Can you come up with 5 words or so that would describe the different games? I bet you a brownie you can. I bet you two brownies you can't think of 10. (please, make me pay you lots of brownies).

I've probably horribly misunderstood what you're looking for. That said:

BLARG (Blog ARG)
GAIM (AIM Game)
TWARG (Twitter ARG)
PUZARG (Puzzle ARG)
SWARG (SWAG ARG)
Countdown
Princess (Save her)
Waldo (Find him)
evorporation (Evil Corporation)
Casey Jones (Train wreck, waiting to happen)

And, I'll just remind everyone that (to my knowledge) there are no words in the English language that end in "ARG".

To be honest, I don't know exactly what I'm looking for... inspiration? ideas? launching off points? anything & everything? I'm looking for various aspects of ARGs that can be used to form the foundation of a tagging system.

audio
commercial
competitive
cooperative
geocache
grassroots
events
independent
promotional
replayable
serial
serious
video

Well, I interpreted your request as looking for different storytelling techniques/mechanics. For example, you should be able to find all games in the ARGdb that used image stegging and youtube videos. So, here are some ways to convey narratives:

video
twitter
instant message
live events
phone
pay phone
dead drops
social websites - myspace, facebook, etc
text message
in-game forums
email
photography
illustrations

There are actually two in the English language...

Darg (noun) - a day's work or a work quota.

Pygarg - used in the Bible, Deuteronomy 14:5, to describe an antelope. It's one of the animals listed as being acceptable for food.

How random is that? Darg is actually pretty commonplace.
