Just listened to your fault (14.53 axon) with Tien Le. I think it's definitely right before something_i_carry.

It's Kamal and Sophia talking about Kamal's sister. Kamal says the technical name of the disease she has (can't remember), but then says what it means is that "everything fell apart." I think he also says something about genetic instabilities. He goes on to say that it took his sister a year to die, and that he used to push her around in a wheelchair and she didn't even know who he was. Kamal says (I believe) that he felt guilty about it, and Sophia says that it's not his fault.

drink_special is hot!

Initial transcript:
Thin: (off some distance) For the sake of argument, say I slide you this time. Sends a message doesn't it "come on over, free lunch on Thin". Ain't happenin' Paolo, AIN'T happenin'.
Paolo: Uh, oh god god, oh god please god, think of my family.
Jan: (in foreground) Reality huh! Thanks aunt Gladys. Hey! Nobody told me it was dime store (bully) night. Is there a drink special with that?

edit: I changed "bowling" to "bully". I think that Jan is going over to interfere with Thin's intimidation of Paolo, the lead in to Thin objecting to her putting the "hammer on Thin in his own place" in "Skin".

"Aunt" may not be literal, but may refer to anyone from J^J's old unit.[/sub]

So, we can deduct from drink_special that the woman Jan spoke to in tweaked_up is her Aunt Gladys. And when she asked her Aunt for something to do with her special abilities, I guess she recommended she go over to this bar and help out with the gang problem they have, or whatever.

/me loves Search

It's been previously SPEC'd that Gladys is either a real Aunt, or an honorary Aunt. [Linkage]
I also concur with your SPEC [above, quoted] that the woman that Jan spoke to in tweaked_up is the same person she refers to in drink_special.

I also got a your_fault today, the 14:35 one. You're pretty much right on as far as I remember. The disease was metabolic cascade failure I believe. Kamal also says something along the lines of "We never lost" or "We used to never lose".

Elec: Please don't cross-post your thoughts/[spec].

/me has ideas:

[SPEC=wild]

Kamal's sister (possibly Janissary) was replaced by a flash clone which died of genetic disfunction. Durga, in ghosting Jan for Jersey, is somehow rerouted (maybe via a military database) to Kamal. Durga does not know why she is ghosting Kamal, possibly an unintentional ghost.

I just had another idea.

If the military have taps on both Kamal and Janissary, being recorded to the same file, then maybe Durga is only tapping into the military records, not ghosting them directly.

[/SPEC]

I don't see anything wrong with his post. Someone else posted that they could not remember the disease name, he supplied that information.

It would have been better to have said "please discuss here" and linkaged, but then the mods would get dangerous, because instead of spending their time editing our posts and telling us what not to do, they'd be able to contribute to the ARS and have fun. And we all know that mods are not allowed to have fun, Rolling Eyes it is written in the Holy Hypertext. Laughing [that's a joke son, you're supposed to laugh.]

I also concur with your analysis that Kamal's sister was probably flash cloned and kidnapped, but that is repeat SPEC. [one, two, three, four, five, six, and seven would be the wiki]

I also like your (completely original spec) that Durga is only tapping military taps. The only potential wrench in the theory is that in taxes_suck she tells Jersey she's monitoring government communications. But, if she's a spook AI, then it makes sense that she would have easy access to all of the stuff that the spooks monitor. (i.e., everything)

Very Happy

But woudn't the military answer to the government? Most military organisations cannot do anything without permission from their respective governing body. Therfore that "potential wrench" is non-existant. Very Happy (Hopefully)

I agree with you... but...

[OT="100%"]

Laughing please define "black op" (I actually did a search, and oddly enough, the definition for this euphamism cannot be found on dictionary.com, m-w.com, wikipedia or by a search via google. in the first five pages.)

What governments knows what their black op teams do? Most governments do not want to know what their black ops folks do.

There's a term "plausible deniability" I think is what they call it. That is to say, the government gives the black ops team a free hand to do anything, with a blank check, for the betterment of the country/state. And, that group of people do not report, expect in the vaguest of terms back to their parent body, thus shielding the government from responsibility and allowing them to easily deny any association with the black op.... cause they really don't know anything about it.

[/OT]

And this is now strongly supported by never_right_again where Kamal's sister is convinced "the night before the accident" that there were "bad guys or burglers" outside the house. She then goes outside, has the "accident" and is never right again. (to spell it out - her abilities allowed her to detect the agents who then took her and replaced her with a flash clone). I hope that she does turn out to be Jan as it would be tidy to have direct links between the three main storylines.

Wild spec:
In her new role as a do-gooder Jan will end up taking on Aiden and meet (possibly save) Kamal who has been further drawn into shady dealings. If Jan is Kamal's sister, there could be recognition at this point.

Is it just me, or does someone else take that to mean the 'old lady' is Jan's mother? I think if it weren't, she would have said "you and my Dad"... but saying "you and Dad" seems to imply she's speaking to her mother.

Just an observation...

In Drink_Special, twords the end, she does say something about "Aunt Gladis" or something .

I suspect that's who the old lady is.

It wasn't my thoughts nor was it SPEC. It was simply what was in the .wav file I heard. In the other thread, I posted that I had hotted the axon and what I remembered to be the content. Here, I quoted somebody who heard the same .wav and filled in a couple details so the rest of you had more info to SPEC with. So sorry you had to read the same bit of info twice Rolling Eyes

People, I humbly ask that you stop linking posts in the same threadas the one you are posting in. Seems like a bit much. Just say "on page two" or something. Thank you.

You may remember from the shipwreck memories that Melissa also has a childhood memory that we could never quite interpret. She remembers being at the beach with her brother and making sandcastles.

Maybe this is the reason that Melissa is so interested in Kamal - is Melissa Kamal's sister?
