Guys, a friend of mine had a really interesting theory that I think answers everything

"So today I finally (stupidly) realized what the term "wifing" means. It refers to dancing with one girl for too long. Or being with the same girl for too long.

Suppose that Slenderman's "club" is the world. Alex began work on Marble Hornets, with one female actor. He stuck with her for a while as they worked on it. At some point, Slenderman realized that someone was wifing in his club (the world) and he must retrieve his 20 dollars. Alex continued to be chased around while he still worked on the film, sticking with this unnamed woman who was acting in it. Eventually, Alex was driven mad, not knowing that he owed Slenderman 20 dollars. He eventually moves far, far out of state, where he presumably is untouched by Slenderman for years. When he left, he left the unknown woman behind, thus ending his wifing. Slenderman's only way of finding people is his sixth (or rather, second) sense, which allows him to locate areas of extreme wifing.

Jay then decides to look for Alex, and is attacked by Masky in what we can assume is Alex's house. After Alex moved out, Slenderman decided to check around this house, looking for his 20 dollars. Infuriated by his lack of payment, he orders Masky, the bouncer of his club, to continue the search inside the house while he proceeds to locate and eliminate other sources of wifing. Masky had no idea who Alex was or what he looked like, and only knew to retrieve 20 dollars from anyone who finds him. Jay returns home, and Masky follows him. Slenderman forgot to tell Masky how to retrieve the 20 dollars, or even what 20 dollars looked like. Masky then watched Jay while he slept, and took the bullet casing, thinking it might be the 20 dollars. Once Jay moves out, Masky goes back to his house one more time, at which point Slenderman comes to check on his progress of retrieving the 20 dollars. Slenderman is angered at the lack of 20 dollars, so he burns down the building with Masky inside it.

Alex now lives somewhere out of state, with a girl who films the video in Entry 26. Suppose by April 4th, he has been with this girl for exactly enough time to qualify as wifing by Slenderman's standards. He has homed in on Alex's wifing energy, and is going to get his 20 dollars now, whatever it takes."

Maybe we folk should make a big pile of questions and then send them off in one mass to avoid repeats? I know a lot of us have the same brainwave; there'll probably be quite a few similar questions!
