[Trailhead?] Dead Space 2 I received this in the mail this morning. Envelope included notes from Dr. Samara Yasmin on Patient 1544C and an inkblot picture. Upon further inspection, the inkblot contained glow-in-th-dark markings. Images of everything attached. The back of the inkblot had written "0623//2300" which I would take to be June 23 at 23:00 hours.
And just for confirmation that this is related to Dead Space 2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This came in a Visceral Games envelope.

Oooh, nice trailhead. The glow-in-the-dark stuff was a nice touch.
I followed the original viral at the UF Thread . I wonder if this will be similar. Any buzz on whether we'll see another graphic novel and/or web comic?

Awesome! I recognized the font instantly in that letter as Unitology text. Unitology, for those who haven't played the first game, are a death cult-religion who believe in the standard death-to-ascension kind of crazy. They leave their lovecraftian font scribbled all over the game for you to decipher. Thankfully, in chapter 6 of the game you happen to see a scribbled rosetta stone of sorts.
For those who haven't gotten to that point yet, and don't feel like digging, the 'for reference' part of that letter says
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"The sickness is the cure! The cure is the sickness!"
All in all, pretty creepy stuff. The inkblot text is a bit harder to make out, but for those that want to work on it, theres a picture of the unitology rosetta stone at the bottom of this page. http://deadspace.wikia.com/wiki/Unitology .

1544c Is obviously a nod to Isaac, The main character of both Dead Space 1 and 2.

I can tell you that the large text on the bottom center of the glow-in-the-dark message translates as 4 2 9 10. I take it that is 4/29/2010, this Thursday.
I can make out assorted other letters as well but the glow medium just really doesn't give enough clarity for me to figure it out. Maybe you can take a crack at it MrToasty if the original is a little easier to read?
Unitology alphabet:

A cleaner version: Rune Translation Guide by MFox87
A super clean redrawn version, though some of the subtle angle nuances seem ignored: Unitology Translator by WhisperTail
EDIT: And the version I've found most helpful: by Aramir
I've added my working translation, but I think I've gone about as far as I can without a better copy. Pink I'm fairly certain of. Green, I'm a little less sure.
EDIT2: Removed outdated attachments, new images further down thread.

Nice work! I don't have it at work with me, so I'll try my hand at it when I get home later.

Definitely a trailhead :) I just got this in the mail today, too...I'm pretty excited for DS2. Love to see folks already digging through it without abandon!
Couple of things to add:
- if you turn the inkblot a certain way, you get this . I'm sure it looks familiar.
- The 2 sets of 4 digit numbers probably don't represent the date/time. Mine is 0178/2300, sounds like a print number to me...
Using blacklight and translating the Unitology is genius. It begins, folks!

well 0178//2300 doesn't really translate to any future date/time. At least not very easily. MrToasty's was 0623//2300. Hmmm....

Good call on both accounts - didn't think it looked individually numbered, thus thought it was date and time.

Makes sense...hopefully we'll hear some more numbers from folks, just to make sure

I just got one in the mail too. Mine has 0241//2300 on the back. Seems like print numbers might make sense.
I took a long exposure pic of mine. Maybe that will help the readability...

I wonder if the numbers had anything to do with how we placed in No Known Survivors, but I don't think that's it either.

Was it the top 10 or 20 that won a copy of the game? I got one, so I don't think I was 241. My memory is faulty these days though

Top 100 I believe - I got one too and think I was in the 40s or so.
And it looks like maybe I put my blot back in the envelope upside down before taking that pic.

I'm going to be leaving in a few minutes, so I thought I'd post my updated translation (Thanks so much for the extended exposure Varin!).
Still not finished, but at least it might help the rest of you guys along
