Just throwing this out there guys, but wasn't one of the early rules of Slenderman that he came after those who knew. I remember one of the quotes to go with the original pictures was "dont look at its pictures it dosent want to be known about dont loo." So wouldn't it be logical to assume that when his girlfriend sees those images on his camera, Slenderman comes to claim her, Alex and the film? Just an idea.

I did not know that was one of the rules of the mythos. That explains pretty much everything, really. It explains why Alex didn't want cameras, it explains why Slendy showed up as soon as the camera came out... it might even explain what drew his attention in the first place.

It ties in nicely with the latest Doctor Who episode, as well...

What it still doesn't explain is why Slendy took so much time stalking Alex instead of just finishing him off... once again, I think there's something special about Alex.

T'was his charming personality!

Maybe it was the filming itself that bothered Slendy? He didn't want to be caught in the act, so he was trying to bide his time?

Yes, definitely. Oh well, it's better to be taken in the prime of life than to have to go through all of that aging nonsense!

Yeah, I think that's the point. It sort of breaks the fourth wall, which is perfect for an ARG.

So not so much Ring as Loop (which was kinda terrible, actually).

Edit: Actually, Spiral might have been the one where the story was all over everywhere, and it was causing people to die faster and faster. Either way, Loop is still the bad one for being such a bad turn in the story.

(X) probably has different meanings in different contexts. 'Here thar be Slender Man' is the most common. In the context of Warning I think that it's used as a symbol for Jay's options running out, or else for people in his life disappearing. In ######, it seems to be more of a 'hark this extremely fucking important message!'

Honestly, I think that it probably doesn't have a single, solid meaning. It seems like a catch-all for Slender-related shenanigans. I don't even know if the creators have a solid definition for it!

Something which nobody seems to have considered as of yet (either here, that I have found, or on the wiki) is that the (X) symbol is simply the Greek letter Theta, which occasionally was rendered as a cirlce with a cross through it. This would appear to make sense for the following reasons:

1. It was often used in that form as a shorthand for death ("thanatos", the Greek word for death, begins with a theta, and the cross-circle form was considered to resemble a crude death's head)

2. In totheark's "Warning" video, the final, hidden frame contains the message "Smile for DEAth". The capitalisation is inconsistent, with the "th" being obviously lower case. This may be a hint.

3. In an earlier video from totheark, "Program", we see what appears to be a pseudoclassical building front in which a coded message, which appears to be composed of characters which closely resemble ANOTHER form of theta (which are also used in his other videos) is played. This message has been decoded via "Advocate" as "Yama", which is the name of a Hindu death deity.

4. Also in the Program video, a conspicuous s-shaped character appears in the lower left hand corner. It appears to be either a variant of lower case sigma (another Greek character), or a less common Greek letter, stigma. The significance of this is difficult to determine.

5. That form of theta is actually used in mathematics to refer to a certain type of operator, which I think some people have latched onto.

If this is considered, the symbol is probably a warning that the slender man is either active in an area, or has been seen there in the past. It could possibly hint at a closer connection between the slender man and death as entities (which would make Yama make a whole lot more sense), or may just mean "You will die" or "large quantities of danger".

So, in short, a fancier way of putting up a big fucking red light. Makes sense! Nice connect-the-dots, there! (And I don't mean that sarcastically!)

Wow...then... since the sigma ("s") and theta both come from the same alphabet (or place), does that mean that both Tim/Masky (because Tim had an "s" on his shirt) and SM come from the same place?

Although, that could be interpreted many different ways...and I'm probably looking too far into it...

Holy shit, this just blew my mind... If Marble Hornets is this intellectual, I think all of us would be blind sided. Maybe we've been under estimating the creators. Perhaps we should go back and take a more intellectual New Criticism out look on things... I'm not going to, because I'm in finals week, but would anyone else would like to volunteer?

P.S. As for you, "guest": Please get an account. I want to hear more from you.

in my past experience with arg's, sometimes when a mysterious "guest" logs in with what may be some ground breaking new thing it could be the PMs trying to "wink wink" at us because we arent seeing what we are supposed to and as such they cant take it to the next place they want to until we figure it out. i.e. were holding things up. now i know this is something that theyre not supposed to do, but it has happened before. just something to think about

I think the MH crew is better than that.

Yes, except this isn't really an ARG. It's more interactive fiction. When a storyline lags because the players can't close in an ARG, that happens. However, in this case, the creators can move forward no matter what we do. (At least for the moment...) There isn't any benefit to doing so.

I wouldn't doubt any Guest just on that basis. Registering is a hassle sometimes when you're hooked on something and want to post NOW.

Besides, why on earth would the MH folks drop by the Unforums a week after the last entry to drop that hint about something that's not relevant to the current part of the plot, especially when they're mostly goon-based? I know they can't post as guests at the SA forums, but I'm sure that if they were going to drop hints, we'd see it on SA before they were dropped here!

I do think that it's a pretty epic conclusion to draw, though. Kudos to the creators if this is the case!

yea, true enough, was just thinking out loud. ive seen it done before, but you are right, they would most likely start with SA first. i dont really check there that much, so i didnt know one way or another. just seemed a little fishy to me.
