Rote memorization seems archaic when every fact is accessible through a Google search. As Salen wrote in the school's proposal, "The meaning of 'knowing' today has shifted from being able to remember and repeat information to being able to find and use it."
I could rebut that, in a new meta thread so as not to thread-jack this one. But I think we need both. Memorize basic math, in case you don't have a calculator handy. Memorize facts and dates to the extent of "cultural literacy", so you can have a working knowledge of what is truth and what is bull-crappy. You can't run to Google to fact-check everything all the time.

Short article for game developers on how to attract women to games. They use ARGs as a good example:

This was already posted by thebruce in the Year Zero sub-forum, but it should be of general interest to people who want to read about ARGs:

It's just two paragraphs, but it's TIME Magazine ! You don't get much more mainstream than that.
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1686815,00.html?iid=chix-sphere
About two-thirds of the way down, you'll see 'Movie Ads Go 2.0.' Check out 'Monster Marketing' for 1-18 and 'Smirk's Up' for Dark Knight.
Although they don't mention ARGs specifically, they present the campaigns in a pretty positive light. And it's TIME Magazine !
(Pg. 109, December 3, 2007 issue in the print edition.)
Edit: Whoops! Just found this buried in one of the Dark Knight threads. Sorry for double-posting the info.

You showed this to me yesterday, thought it was an amazing, yet concerning article.

I wish the article talked more about the upcoming panel in Edinburgh with Dan Hon, Alex Fleetwood, David Varela, and Yomi Ayeni. Still, seems a decent enough write-up.

Jane mcG readers digest So my sister called to tell me that Readers Digest has a photo and a paragraph about Jane McGonigal this month. ( the cover is a photo of Micheal J. Fox) I don't get Readers Digest and I couldn't find a link. Maybe someone else has seen it?

Hmm, well maybe they haven't updated to April yet. I managed to get to this page via the "More / In the magazine" link in the footer of readersdigest.com...
Maybe it'll show up when they finally get to April?
