I wonder if that's possible. There are definitely similarities -- Kamal's sister picked up languages quickly, for one -- but I'm not sure how she could have been transplanted into an AI.

That's how AIs are created in Halodonia. Not "transplanted," but duplicated from the contents of a live brain.

melissa as Kamal's sister

And this is now strongly supported by never_right_again where Kamal's sister is convinced "the night before the accident" that there were "bad guys or burglers" outside the house. She then goes outside, has the "accident" and is never right again. (to spell it out - her abilities allowed her to detect the agents who then took her and replaced her with a flash clone).

You may remember from the shipwreck memories that Melissa also has a childhood memory that we could never quite interpret. She remembers being at the beach with her brother and making sandcastles.

Maybe this is the reason that Melissa is so interested in Kamal - is Melissa Kamal's sister?

Perhaps the 'stories' the princess is telling us are actually those that Melissa remembers being read by Kamal when she was a child.

And a planet named "Coral" sounds like one that would be likely to have beaches! I like this Spec. Regarding the creation of an AI from a person: is it destructive? Does the person still exist with the AI as a copy? This could allow both Melissa and Jan to be Kamal's sister.

From the Halo Library:

Artificial Intelligence was developed by the UNSC in cooperation with ONI. The process of creating an AI is different than most people realize. Instead of simply "programming" an AI, the AI matrix is actually created by sending electric bursts through the neural pathways of a human brain which are then replicated in a superconducting nano-assemblage. This destroys the original brain tissue however, and so the brain being used could only be obtained after the host had died. However, in some instances, as in the case of the AI "Cortana", the candidate brain was flash-cloned and had it's memories transferred to the recepticle organs so that the host, Dr. Catherine Halsey, could remain alive.

ah dang you beat me to it. but that AI process has been reffered to several times in these forums, most noteably in the 108 page gripefest (which was quite fun to read honestly) in the axon coodination.

I have searched and have found no posting of a transcript of "Girls_with_guns". I have listened a bunch of times to the audio clip kindly posted by Lady Kata and have been able to get the following with some confidence.

"Girls_with_guns" transcribed from the audio recording posted by Lady Kata

-short windup sound-
Thin: You win Babysitter, here's your grub.
Jan: Ooof!
Thin: African, (what's up with) someplace nobody goes. ???, Antarctica, ... or Indiana for God's sake. [spec/perhaps telling her where the grub (Paolo) should go]
Jan: I keep waiting for the teary-eyed gratitude here.
Paolo: You'll be waiting a while.
Thin: Hey Babysitter.
Jan: Yeah?
Thin: Maybe drop off a resume on your way outside the door. Good looking crazy girls with guns I've always got work for.
-short wind-down sound-

It appears to fall just after "Kiss_them".

Another note" For those who can't listen. Jan wears high heels as you can hear them clicking in the other clips as she walks around the table shooting "moons".

[edit:added winding sounds, and another listen made me realize that one phrase was apparently Paolo/grub's voice]

And it seems to fit pretty well before retirement.wav. Check it.

set5#21: run_for_cover---short---
(playing pool)
Thin: Tricky game, moons! You hit too hard - they stick, too soft - they skate. Do it just right, and they obey your commands. They work for you.
Jan: Uh huh. Or, you can slap them so hard, they run for cover. (sinks a ball)
set5#26: kiss_them
Jan: Bark at them, and they jump. Tickle them, and they laugh. Kiss them, and they fall in love. And if you shoot them, 8 off the rags, play the kiss on the suicide bar backspin into the corner pocket, I say - shoot them - they die. ---short---

set5#17: retirement
Jan: Yeah, I'm more of an independent study girl.
Smoothie: I could teach you some things... but, it's your funeral
Jan: Not yet
Smoothie: Sooner than you think
Jan: Is.. that a threat?
Smoothie: No, just experience. I'm past 30, I've been around forever. Retirement comes sudden to people like you and me.
Jan: I am nothing like you.
Smoothie: (giggle) We'll see.

Durga's not warm and fuzzy.

I [SPEC] with my bionic eye that Durga is using Jersey. When she responds that she likes him, the tone is a little suspect. Like she's trying to curry favor with him. I suspect that Durga's hoodwinking poor Jersey until she can accomplish her goals.

I don't know. Maybe that's obvious to everyone else, but up to this point I've been thinking that Durga genuinely likes Jersey. Now I'm not so sure.

It sounds to me like she was about to tell him the real reason, then changed it to "I like you" as a cover.

Jan is kamals sister

by listening to the clip with kamal, talking about his sister, i got the impression that Jan James is his sister, as he talks about all her attributes, and that i guess the kamal piece takes place before the Jan Piece. also if that
is do, Jan dies in one of these, or the clone that the spartan program grew dies, while she goes off to become a spartan. and kamal and his family dont know about the clone, being a clone. I dunno but that sounds kinda right.

My whole problem with the "Jan is a Spartan" theory is still this:
What is she doing kicking around the US (on base or otherwise) where she can be detected and/or interact with the locals.
How is it that everyone knows she's modified?

Is there a board where we're discussing how all this relates to ilovebees?

Is it just me or does Jan and the Sleeping Princess talk awfully alike?

Thanks Dragonrider.
So my assbmely of the the whole Set5 Jan Arc would be:
set5#19: domestic_skills Jan's cooking questioned
set5#7: tweaked_up Jan asks Gladys for a purpose
set5#23: drink_special Jan goes to Thin's place looking to do good
set5#13: thin_kinkle Jan bluffs Thin and saves Paolo, but Paolo fears she could get him killed
set5#8: skin Thin proposes a game of skill.
set5#11: break_em (just a guess here, no info on contents, but this is the first step in a pool game)
set5#21: run_for_cover Thin gives pool lessons
set5#27: kiss_them Jan shows that she is the master
set5#29 girls_with_guns Paolo is freed to Jan, but Thin wants to be her agent.
set5#17: retirement Jan stays a free agent

I don't see any gaps in the story, but there are several clips we don't have transcripts or tapes of yet. Break_em could be in another Arc, but the name fits.

Comments?
