Though I am sure it will fall on deaf ears (and eyes), this WAS being handled in PM's. And only when I brought it here to the main forum (where the initial trade was requested) did I start getting any kind of satisfaction. I think FSURobbie can back me up that I was being HORRIBLY taken advantage of.

I am sincerely sorry that you see this as "childish". I see it as "theft". Anyone who has been taken advantage of in a trade, I am sure will see my point.

Hey children, this is a conversation that probably should have 100% taken place in PMs. Have a real problem with another user? Take it up with an admin - don't start a public drama fest. Rolling Eyes KTHXBAI!

Sounds like it was 100% PMs for a long time. Sadly, exposing bad behavior is sometimes the only way to correct it. Taking this to an Admin (and what... banning?) will not really incent anyone to change their ways. I appreciate rustymuffler's patience, restraint in not taking this to "other" sites and decision to publicize the situation here; If, for no other reason, to serve as a warning to the good denizens of unfiction.

QFT. I was about to write a longer post saying the same thing, but this is much more concise Smile

And to think you were yelling at me a couple weeks ago, Lex. Wink Granted I guess I should have waited a little longer before bringing it up then, but I could feel the boot dropping and was hoping he'd come around if I said something. Sad

K... at this point I may be getting something from movielord and I have agreed to drop it for now. If things go good, I am sure that movielord and I will clean up our clutter on the boards. Smile

The End... hopefully.

Alright folks. I split off the posts regarding this conflict from the main swag trading thread, because I don't want any further interruptions for other people wanting to discuss the trading of swag.

Admins who feel that I am in the wrong for any of this, please feel free to let me know. If you are going to allow trading in these forums, then the least you could do is allow reports of negative experiences like this.

I do not think you are in the wrong for posting your experiences, especially not in the very reasonable way you've done so far, but I do think that now that you've had the opportunity to do so, the further resolution of this conflict should be handled off these forums.

As we're a forum with a generally hands-off approach to moderation, yes, we do 'allow trading', because on Unfiction, we allow people to basically post anything that does not go against our ToS. That said, Unfiction is not and cannot be in any way a party in these trades nor in the aftermath of trades gone wrong and we certainly don't want other users to be hindered by it. It would be a shame if Unfiction was forced to alter its ToS to exclude discussion of trades, because that would hurt a lot of benevolent users.

I think the lesson to be learned from this thread is that Unfiction is not eBay. We have no way to moderate the swag transactions that may or may not occur throughout the course of any given game. There is no way for me, for instance, to punish anyone who may or may not be living up to their end of the bargain. I would say that your best course of action though, as opposed to bringing it to the public forums, might be contacting a moderator first. I can't guarantee that there is anything enaxor, Euchre, or myself can really do, but maybe there is some sort of insight we can offer. Just a thought.

Basically, just use common sense, and be good to one another. This is a community. Let's try to act that way.

what a convo to read...

I was afraid I was gonna be the bad guy in a situation like this for a couple of Flynn Lives shirts and SP pins...

I sent my payment out in the mail the day before I got the package... I waited a week to check with the other person:
NOTHING!
A whole 'nother week: NOTHING STILL!
augh.... oh agony of agonies!! My cash was stolen from the mail...

Then today I got a message that the money arrived!!!
Mind you, I sent my payment on 4/13...
The postmark date says 4/27 and arrived 4/29...

So let this be a lesson in patience. and faith in the USPS...

I'm sorry...
Two full weeks to get a postmark.
People needing to get their taxes postmarked by 4/15 must be really upset with your postmaster.

I have no faith in the USPS. It's a crap shoot any time I send out something larger than a letter. Heck, they even manage to lose (or some times destroy, literally) the letters.

UPS FTW baby.

I think that in cases like this, it is generally important to have delivery confirmation along with some sort of tracking. It prevents the kinds of tension which potentially can pop up. Some years ago, I got an eviction notice from my landlord out of the blue. Needless to say, I was mystified. Turned out that either the post office or their secretary (I suspect the latter, actually) mislaid the money order sent for the rent. I of course could show that the money order hadn't been cashed, but that really didn't help my cause much. Finally, while we were getting set up their secretary called to tell them that she had found the money order. For the past 6 months I had been paying for the previous month's rent, rather than the current one. After that, I was determined that from then on I would pay the extra couple of dollars to have delivery confirmation at the very least, just to prevent this from happening again. I recommend that to you all.

movielord came through in the end. Got my Bit. Smile

I think that the lesson to be learned, at least from this experience is, be DAMN sure that you are willing to part with whatever you are giving up in a trade before you finalize the deal. Especially if you are asking the other party to ship first.

Honestly I believe that if trades are going to be allowed, be it in PM's or in plain site on the forum, that there does need to be some kind of feedback system in place. I have been a member of various action figure and toy sites that allow trading and it is as simple as having a thread going which can be updated by a single member or admin that lists the name of a member involved in a trade with each good trade getting that member a +1 and each bad trade a -1. Whoever has the more established rating ships first, etc, etc. Pretty simple and does help in detracting from situations such as this.

Just an idea if trading gets to be more rampant.
