[META] Chud review - and I totally agree http://www.chud.com/news/sept04/sept8bees.php3
Just saw that on Chud.com. I totally agree with everything, from his initial feelings to his final comments.

One week later, the website changed again. More coordinates. More corresponding times. More cockpunches.
I thought that was funny, and I did agree to an extent, but at this point I am kinda interested in the story. However, the axon thing got annoying a long time ago.

Yeah, I admit that this whole axon chasing thing is getting out of hand.
And yeah, there will be another set of axons next week.
On the other hand, the story is being told in a very unique way and is
keeping me entirely interested. The axons also have a finite number of
777. They will end and something fresh will take their place.
No offense to anyone but if people start dropping off like flies things
will get back to a managable level.

Since i'm not able to enhotenate any axons, being in a different country, i can't say i'm getting sick of this thing. I can see what he means about not getting a worthwhile reward after 3 sets of axons tho'. I'd like something different sometime soon.
No-one ever said there was going to be a demo available, people just picked up on someone elses [spec] and ran with it. Despite Bungie saying they will never release a demo, people still thought they knew better. Sucked in to the the fools who got their hopes up for a demo

There are those who said this day would never come, what are they to say now?

The article says it's not a lot of fun driving long distances and waiting around for hours to answer the payphones. That does seem like it would be a pain, especially when they keep releasing new axons. But for me, living many hours from any axon spots and too busy with school and such to go driving out to get them, the game is still fun and interesting. The whole axon plot is starting to come together nicely.

I work about 35 mins from the closest axon and I pretty much gave up on enhotenating it. It became a 1.5 hour lunch break every week with only moderate success. Since the axon is inside of a business (see the durga video from the 24th), it's not even in our control when/if we have access to the phone. Sorry, I ranted a little. My point is that although I'm heavily instrested in the game, I can't participate like this anymore. It appears that others feel the same way because no one is enhotenating our axon. No hot axon means no more audio.

But 700+ Look, 700+ is annoying in itself. But why does the voice acting have to be so damn bad?? It's not even worse the reward. Basically, it's just busy work now, not problem solving, and i find that really lame.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go along with the whole 'cockpunch' thing. It was cool at the beginning, but at this point, they've beaten the 'axon' horse so repeatedly and so hard that it's not merely dead, the corpse's organic components have begun breaking down and merging with the ground beneath it.
Open Letter to the PMs: When something dies, you get a shovel, bury it, and then move on with your lives. You don't stand around the body, jumping up and down, yelling at the top of your lungs, "LOOK! I FOUND A DEAD THING! ISN'T IT COOL?"
The 'axon' puzzle/activity/hoopjumping/cockpunch is dead. Move on already.

Well, #1 - if he really thought Aug 24th it was going to be on the level of a Halo 2 demo, he wasn't paying enough attention. Let's face it, dancing robots were more likely and that just wasn't all that likely.
#2 - It's been sometime, maybe never, that I've had a Bangkok Surprise, but then again - I didn't hang around bullies. I'm going to guess that it probably feels a lot worse than anything from ILB. I'm really just pointing this out so that we realize when he calls people hyperbolic geeks, he's being a bit hypocritical.
However, I've also been fairly vocal in saying the PMs are skating a pretty thin line with the axons and the patience of some the players. It's one thing offer a big thanks to people who drive well out of the way for these events, but the weekly grind just has to be grinding. I haven't had a chance to enhottenate any axons, unlike my many Chicago brethren, so clearly I'm solely riding on the shoulders of those more dedicated.
This seems like an expirement in social engineering - I just hope the PMs didn't forget to carry a one over somewhere in their calculations.

A simple solution I have to agree the ice is more than thin it's getting down right dangerous. A simple solution to the problem? Live actors. Answer a call get a live person. Not all of course very random, imagine the surprise of giving the password to hear a live person on the other end of the phone giving a new clue followed by a new audio clip and the entire axon going hot.
Sure it could be hit or miss if the call is not answered but with over a 60% chance it would not take many calls to build new excitement in a game that is beginning to circle the drain of player interest.

it wouldn't be bad if the target wasn't 777. having to do ANYTHING 777 times will get boring. having to answer payphones 777 times is unbearable. sure, it's a widespread effort, but 777 is still a huge number. we'll get there, but it's far from fun now. . . . especially when the axon closest to you doesn't describe an actual payphone, but instead describes a point in the middle of a ring of 12 different phones.

Except for Jan, I don't agree with you here. The voice acting easily
compares witha high quality anime. I mean, look at Halo. That game
is graphically designed in a cartoony anime style. I think it fits.

Ditto. The voice acting is actually pretty good for something that doesn't require a ticket to get in.

I'm not even sure we'll get there, if there's another week to this.
Take a look at Dana's blog. The first week the axons went hot, she got 2357 responses. The week after it went down to 671. Now it's less than 200. The PMs are being inflexible on this to the point where it's hurting the game, and you can't be inflexible when you're doing an ARG, there's too many unknown factors with your players.
I think what I dislike most is how much they must have spent on the voice actors and bandwidth for this, when they could have spent the money on say, a couple more websites. Just having two is starting to feel really claustrophobic.
