Any idea what it could have to do with Super 8? Other than just the Air Force ref?

The US Air Force has hundreds of secret codes that could be used in this ARG, but it's very broad and trying to find a solid connection could be nearly impossible... let's keep doing research though we may uncover an undeniable connectio.

I think it somehow ties in with the Area 51 material being freighted to a secure location in Ohio. STALOG is an acronym for Study of Automation of the Logistic System. Logistics is defined as:
Quote:
the branch of military science having to do with procuring, maintaining, and transporting materiel, personnel, and facilities

But when I think logistics, I usually just think of the movement of freight.

Could you link to the first instance? The only previous instance I find is a registered one-poster, and I can assure they are certainly not from the exact same source.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
While many of you think 500rads/10cfr20 surmount to an Ethan Haas alternate universe ... I believe they were the beginning of this whole new viral spread. i.e. just "bumps" to official announcements and the sort. ... J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, Peter Jackson and even George Lucas ALL started out shooting on Super 8mm movie film. I don't think "Super 8" is just going to be an homage to just Spielberg, I believe it is going to be an homage to ALL those films from the 60's/70's/80's that shaped the way we see films today. I would imagine the plot to surround those that "experimented" with that film structure and inadvertently captured various forms of reality (accidentally created: i.e. Big Foot, Loch Ness Monster, Aliens ... that sort of thing), and, while the big corporations who have been trying to hide/contain their mistakes, investigate/retrieve any and all known footage ... with horrifying consequences! I think the two blogs were created to get that "feel." IMO

Personally, I hope that "Super 8" does NOT take place in the 70's-80's ...
In order for it to have any scare factor (for myself), it would NEED to take place in the "here-and-now" as JAWS, Poltergeist, Jurassic Park, etc ... took place during the time periods in which they were created and released! They were scary then, but they are far from scary now.

So far, this "new viral" ... scariestthingieversaw ... seems VERY "RetroVertigo!"
... I was around when computers first crept their way into households!

It would be funny/creepy if the *DOS* download actually does something to make all followers become a part of the viral, in some way, as stated above!

Go get 'em, boys!!

Well, I don't dislike 500 rads, it's nice alternate reality, but it's again a fan fiction, just because of the kind of presentation of it.

Sure, JJ Abrams would perhaps want to make something like pretending OOG blog, which were actually IG, to copy the style of ARG player and conspiracy theorists. But for that compare the 500 Rad blog with, say, conspiracy video about Oceanic Six on the LOST Season 4 DVD. I'm sorry, but if a fictional character of 500 rads sends comments to CloverfieldClues.com, it's the best evidence for "500 Rads blog" beeing completely OOG. JJ Abrams wouldn't act in such unprofessional way.

Again, for a distributing of fan fiction it's perhaps a way (even if questionable: I'd rather contact people and blogs, who don't report about Cloverfield themes - it's more realistic).

And collaboration of all these filmmakers would be awesome, just in this case there would be many posts in Slashfilm, aintitcool.com and another movie rumour sites about such things. So, only this rad blog is too few for me to cover a huge cinematographic-viral project.

Anyway, if you want to discuss about it, let's do it here:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29516
instead of another Super8 threads, otherwise it will completely confuse newcomers. And the last thing we want is to loose people at this awesome Super 8 project. Wink

(Disclaimer: The blog that shall not be named got me to thinking about this, but that's largely irrelevant.)

Anyway, turns out that a DEQNA is a very old type of Ethernet adapter. From what I can tell, it was used on the PDP-11 - the kind of machine that we're apparently looking at over at scariestthingieversaw.com.

Enjoy.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'd like to close by saying that the PDP-11 development work has always been a bright and happy time in my career. There were many wonderful people involved. The only one I've seen in more modern times is Harold McFarland. He was out here (California) working at HAL and met with me for lunch and to ask if I remember why we did some of the things we did on the PDP-11. Gads, that really was a long time ago ...... I hope my memory has not caused me to get too many things wrong. If so, I apologize in advance. It's been fun writing this -- many things I'd forgotten came back to me.

Larry McGowan

Yeah, about as much as this video has to do with Super 8.

WARNING: Coarse language, potentially disturbing sounds.
(Not visually graphic, and generally no worse than exploding chicks.)

Thats not completely true. In the Cloverfield ARG the smallest thing led to some of the biggest discoveries. The Slusho logo alone led to Slusho.jp and Tagruato. The download could be nothing more than a link or picture, but in an ARG knowledge is progress.

Here's info about the TU56 DECTape Drive

Quote:
The tape is normally formatted with 1474 block of 129 12 bit words per block. Only 128 words are normally used in each block. This gives a capacity of 184K words per tape.

Source: http://www.pdp8.net/tu56/tu56.shtml

So we could potentially get a lot of text. Which makes sense since there was no graphics processor to speak of. The PDP-11 could only display text and simple graphs.

Nice information there... We might get a source code that we will have to put into HTML ourselves. Would be neat if we get source code from the ARG's time period that can only be compiled in our world, but is this possible?
