Ah, but just to chastise you lightly (maybe with a featherduster or something)...

1) just because there's more prolific posters here, just means we talk a lot.

2) just cuz someone hasn't posted often doesn't mean they're a newbie... just that they lurk OR are a newbie...

So while in truth, I think you may be right, it's a bad generalization to go off of in the future (and I know you know that already... I just gotta say it...)

edited to remove the While.... but... sentence... (who does that?)

Okay, I'm a big Halo fan, and I'm really enjoying this ARG as well (from a mostly spectatorial standpoint, but that's pretty much what's available to us). I think that, in general, Halo knowledge is not necessary to understanding the story, but it does help. (Note, I did not say "necessary to figuring out the puzzles" or "to playing the game" becasue, well, there haven't really been that many puzzles, which is what started this thread in the first place.)
The one area of the story that does seem to benefit from knowing Bungie-lore is the idea that a human being could be made into an AI. I'm not sure that that idea/theory has played into our understanding very much (yet) but it certainly opened up a lot of (reasonable) spec that we probably would never have thought of otherwise.

not to be an elitest... but have you noticed that this thread is made up of intelligent people, most of whom have posts greater than 100 and sign-up dates of at least 2 weeks... and THAT thread is just a bunch newbie kids griping?

Usually when people use the phrase "Not to be [X]" they're just going to go ahead and be X anyway, but they think they've proactively justified it.

I posted in the CHUD thread. And I may not have a super-high post count, but that's usually because whatever I think has already been posted by someone else in one form or another. And I lurked for a long time before creating an account because I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to actively participate. I don't have a lot of time to devote to things like this, but when The Magic Date rolled around I figured, "What the hell?" I like Halo, I think Bungie rocks, and I finally convinced myself that I might be able to contribute something.

What I didn't count on was that ILB would be so effing repetitive.

Perhaps I'm a little too grounded for things like this. I work during the week, and that means I can't go visit axon points until the weekends, and most of them have already been covered by other people by the time Saturday rolls around. I can't contribute by solving puzzles, because, as so many other people have mentioned, they're usually nailed within ten minutes before I even get to my computer. I don't do wild spec, not because I think there's something wrong with wild spec, but because I tend towards the straightforward. Sometimes things get weird, but there's usually a simple explanation.

When I read the CHUD article, I laughed. It basically summed up my growing feelings about ILB, but exaggerated for comic effect. I don't hate this game, I'm just irritated because I don't feel I'm getting anything out of it. Is this solely my problem? Yes and no. Yes, because I didn't have to look, or read, or expend time and effort piecing together the mystery .wav files even though I knew it would be done faster and better by other people. No, because I'm not the only one who feels burned.

I suppose the point of this post was to vent spleen at being called a 'griping newbie kid' in comparison to the 'intelligent' people with 100+ posts. But if I'd simply posted "EFF YOU!!!1!!!1!" in response, then you would have been content in your superiority, or whatever it was you were trying to convey. I do realize, however, that I'm redundant, a fifth wheel as it were, so I may continue to lurk, or I may just forget it until it's all over and then read the final Guide or Walkthrough, but I seriously doubt I'll be posting again.

There goes my shot at a 100+ post count.

PS Real elitists know how to spell it.

Before this thread goes any further down the road of "us versus them" or "our ideas are better than theirs" or "newbies suck" or whatever this 10 page thread has diverged into (which in my opinion, has gone WAY off topic and no longer serves any purpose but to tick each other off by being ginormous bungholes about our so called "viewpoints"), I'm going to lock it and end it here.

If you'd like to discuss a topic such as "intelligence quotients are equally determined by post number" or "CHUD is a lesser form of entertainment review than <fill in the blank>", take it somewhere else.

If you'd like to discuss the GAME, then please, feel free to start a new thread for that purpose.
