[spec] the new 404 text, meant to keep us going? in the new 404 text the SP states
Quote:
he has this idea that delivering a certain number of messages will PROVE that she is transmitting to her friends, so get to that number!
could this possibly be the PMs way to tell us to keep going we're almost there?
getting to that number could open up a whole nother can of...axons, puzzles....who knows?

I actually, (and forgive my cynicism,) think this is to just give us more incentive. I think they see that this train is slowing down, and they've gotta finish what they've started. So to connect those two, they've got to re-create interest in the axons, and this is a way to do that...
Either that, or it ONLY pertains to those axons we light in the recipe3 section...

well, I don't think these PMs are as blind to their community as George Lucas. I'm sure they're aware that we're getting a bit tired of the axon activity. I'll bet with next Tuesday's update, we'll get some sort of "axon countdown", displaying the number of axons remaining, to inspire us to finish up the last set.
I'm not sure what the PMs were thinking when they scheduled a solid month of axon hunting, though. if anything, I would have thought that with the recent completion of Halo 2, they would have come up with something a bit MORE involving on their part, with all their new-found free-time. or maybe they're all taking a very much deserved vacation.
but let's remember, folks, that the PMs are people too; most likely people working for Bungie, but not hired specifically for this ARG. they're providing this experience to us for free, with much more dedication than any traditional advertising agency would devote to us. we gotta remember that they don't OWE us jack-squat. we just gotta take what we're given.

Actually, I completely disagree (respectfully)... I think this IS a hired-guns scenario, where the people working on this ARG are DEFINITELY not the people working on Halo 2. Or the random Bungie Employee. Of course Bungie and Microsoft are involved, but probably only at the story arc or "administrative" levels... Most likely, this is an advertising team well versed in such tasking.

I think you nailed it.
My gut has always said that what we're doing is repairing the AI. Since its corrupted by what seems to be Covenant influences, we're repairing what we shouldn't be repairing. When it is 'fixed' enough to transmit, it high-tails it out of here.
We repair AI. AI goes "REVEAL THE TRUTH" and sends a message out to space. Same AI either leaves or self-destructs. ILB looks normal again. Dana is confused and worried, we're confused.
Couple weeks/days later, Halo 2 comes out. Turns out, the Covenant invades Earth. People in Halo 2 go "how did the Covenant find us? We did the Cole Protocol?" Its a mystery.
I've toyed with the idea of ILB beingThe Lost Network Packets of the Halo story. A few between-game questions never answered in-game now make a bit more sense, since we did this.
And the funny thing is... if my gut is right, we're responsible for the invasion of Earth.

I've said all along that we can't change the outcome of this in anyway.
It is going to lead to the Covenant evasion and Bungie is going to
release Halo2. If it does turn out to be all our fault then I'm just going
to kick the Covenant's ass'sesess that much harder come Nov. 9th.

oh, and scumbug, interesting idea, i read that page about the 'lost packets' but couldn't quite see how it fit (other than the oft-trouted suggestion of the 'lost century' in Marathon (2500) matching up with the dates for Halo's timeline)

I think it was a typo. Will be interesting to see if SP corrects herself.
And not to speak for Scumbag, but I think he's suggesting that these axons are like those missing transmission, explaining some events that are prologue but not central to the game.

I think that was more in reference to the linse (now emphasized by me) in the original post, than to anything else. And maybe they (both SPDR/Flea-like lines) should read:

and

It looks like someone dictated the text and the person who had to retranscribe it made the mistake. It is probably just a human error but it could also be that SP is also building a voice and that her messages on the 404 page are dictated (and that her voice recognition software is flawed!)... But then again, maybe not!

Mmmmm Spanker
second best weapon in the game. The best being the mounted turret attatched to the Scorpion.
