[UPDATE] Cambridge Medical Hospital (Sept 8, 2004)

New update from Charles:- http://www.cambridgementalhospital.com/updates90804.html
Quote:
I had an extremely interesting call today, from a lady who lives only about two hours away from me. She lived near Cambridge for most her younger life, and was very much one of those Hippie types my father always regarded with suspicion.

I, though, found her extremely fascinating. She's very well travelled, has done a lot of missionary work, and had many profound and humorous tales to tell.

Since retiring home to MN, she started doing some research on Cambridge, and came across my site. After reading the story about the strange gravemarker, which I really know nothing about and have never actually seen for myself, she said she stopped everything she was doing then and there and hauled out her old sketch books.

I haven't been this excited in a long time. She believes, although there isn't a date of 1839 anywhere on it, that a rubbing she took of a flat gravestone near the hospital back sometime in the seventies, could very well be the one mentioned in the story. She said she was prone to wandering and used to take day trips all over the county in order to sketch scenery and she remembers this particular gravemarker because of it's strange symbols and the feeling she had of being watched while making the rubbing.

Although I enjoy the different stories that come up about hauntings around Cambridge, I'm not much of a heebie jeebie sort of man, and would imagine taking rubbings of any old, decaying headstones would make anyone feel like they are being watched.

Anyway, I'm very excited as she's going to send me a copy to post on my site. I've delayed my trip to Cambridge this week in the hopes that I can convince this lady to come along. It would be truly thrilling to actually set eyes on a piece of Cambridge lore.

Please take into consideration that, having never seen the marker, I cannot guarantee the veracity of the copy. Whether this is, in fact, the gravemarker mentioned in the tall tale on my site remains to be seen.

However, tall tales often have origins in truth do they not?

Charles

So, is this a fictional person he's talking about, or does anyone want to claim this phone call?

My guess is its made-up, however. Seems a little coincidental based on what was said. Feels like more of a plot device to me. I was hoping he'd give indications as to where she said the grave marker was, so that I could go check it out in person, but oh well....

My guess is that this a fictional person but I am very interested in seeing the rubbing he talks about.

Sounds like another puzzle is on its way

I bet it will give us another name so we can do a google on it and begin with more sites and start tying these different things together. The fact that it supposedly lies in a clearing away from the cemetery probably means it is someone important at the hospital such as the director during the time period or maybe even the original designer. Anyway i am definatly excited for this one.

What did they do with the bodies of the House of Dread contestants who all died at the site???

SPEC: there is a mass grave somewhere on the grounds of CMH??

Best way to get rid of a body - find a construction site that will be pouring the cement for the foundation the next morning. Dig deep enough in the ground to bury the body(s), pack down the dirt well enough that when the cement crew arrives the next morning, they don't notice. They pour the cement and you are home free (no body, no evidence, no murder trial?).

Or maybe I watch too much CSI?

Thanks Kona for explaining how to dispose of a body. I might find this useful down the road. Twisted Evil

BTW good SPEC, Kona.

I am going to email Charles to see if I can get this mysterious hippy lady's name and hopefully an email address, phone #, mailing address. Something to see if she has any more info that charles didn't give up in his update.

Just an update I just emailed Charles about contacting the mystery lady. I got an auto response.

Thank you for writing about www.cambridgementalhospital.com.

Lately I've had little time to maintain the site and respond to e-mails, but
will try to reply as soon as possible.

Until then, I'll make small updates to the site whenever time allows.

Sincerely,

Charles

So I guess we will see if he gets back to me or not.

At one point I asked Charles if he could get a rubbing of that marker for me. I believe the response stated that he didn't know it if was even there anymore or not. I -knew- that would be a piece of the puzzle -- guess we just weren't allowed to have it until now...
