If the paper is basically from before 1963, there weren't ZIP Codes back then. There were 'postal zone codes' previous to that, starting in 1943. I can't say from personal experience (I'm not that old) but I would suspect that the term 'zone' was often used for ZIP Codes before they became mandatory.

Interesting. That would explain it then and would also relate to the ZIP acronym as it stands to Zone Improvement Plan.

These are the only devices listed in the PDP-11 "How to" article. Someone else has already posted them and we've tried them all but I guess it never hurts to keep trying:

DEVICE NAMES
------------------------------------------------------------

CR: Card reader
DTx: Dectape
DX: RX01 Disk
DP: Disk pack
LP: Line printer
MT: Magnetic tape
DK: Default user drive
SY: Default system drive
TT: Teletype

So either there are some more that werent listed that we need to dig up and find or the PMs have one that they have created themselves that is either hidden in that paper, which i feel is the case, or they havent revealed yet. i think we have alot more digging to do people. I strongly feel there is more to be revealed in that newspaper than the rocket poppeteers site. that seems to alot of newspaper just to reveal one web site. there is more there than weve found yet

"Lightyear Luke!" here.

Longtime lurker, rare poster. Basically only followed Cloverfield. Anyways... I did some googling on this idea, but figured that I would share so that people could maybe do better than I did. On the Russian Nuke page from RSCOM8, there is an ad for an Animal Rescue place, but the ad is partially cut off. All we can see is:

Quote:
Looking for a new addition
Save a Life
Adopt a pe

Sookie & Sm
Animal Rescu

Dozens of Animals
to Be Rescu
Take One Home

I feel like this can't be a coincidence. They're so careful with what they show us that it suggests this might be helpful. I've done some googling, but am struggling with finding anything. Might be a dead end, but figured it was worth pointing out and getting some googlers on.

Any thoughts?

I've been thinking about it and I second your opinion.
The design of the ad is very strange:
1) The canvas' lines don't match with the other lines of the page;
2) The text of the ad is centered, so it seems that the ad is cut in half, but the phrases are almost complete to be missing another half;
3) One of the fonts used in the ad is very close to Trebuchet MS. I tested it in photoshop and it matched pretty well. I only adjusted some spacing and horizontally scale of the letter D. The fact is: Trebuchet MS was created in 1996, so this font maybe a recent one.

These facts combined made me thought that there is something hiding in this ad.
Below, an image illustrating my point:

It's not Trebuchet MS. There are many subtle differences. The "i", the "k", to name a couple. It's very close though.

Hmm, yeah, it's not. But I still believe its a recent font, for they are very similar.

Other than Sookie is a well known vampire from True Blood which is Ironic since vampires dont save animals they kill them...

Other than that you get some pets named sookie that need to be saved but the most recent is around April 16th 2010, before the campain started. I think were at a dead end with the ad for now...

I already googled everything I could think of relating to Sookie and her animal rescue thing, but no luck. I doubt that has anything to do with the game...

^ It has the potential of isolating the location of the paper, and thus the location of the person sending the coded message... I would say it has potential to be relevant. The ad is clearly unbalanced, and doesn't seem to match the rest of the info on the page. Who was advertising animal rescue centers in the 60s? It doesn't seem to fit to me.

Has anyone found any possible clues in relation to the Saturn
(rocket family) developed in the 50's?

Well, the ASPCA started in the 1860's, so that's about 100 years for American humane societies to become prominent enough to warrant a newspaper advertisement. Or do you think we only began to have animal rescue centers in the past 40 years?

I'm not saying the article is irrelevant, it's just not that crazy.

^ Not suggesting that they didn't exist, just more suggesting that it seems out of place for it to have an ad in a world news section of a newspaper.

Not really.

(Note: This article is from 1963)

Once again... not talking about it being weird to have an ad in a world news section, but specifically an animal rescue center in the world news section. If you were an animal rescue center, wouldn't you want your ad in the classified section where people advertise animals?

The name is slightly odd, the ad stands out. It might be worth looking into, considering how carefully info is presented in the Abrams ARGs.
