Also as far as the newspaper clippings go...has anyone tried folding the two x's toward one another to see if anything lines up or any images surface by doing so...I know that they lined the two newspapers up using the x's but maybe folding them somehow will accomplish something?

http://ipeedalittle.com/super8/
It's been done before.

That's not what he/she was asking. They said they knew the newspapers were lined up to get the message, but they were wondering if folding the pages would accomplish anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huzita–Hatori_axioms
these are the seven axioms that define all paper folding. I can see how to apply the first two to the pages with the X's, but i dont have a printer available to test out what would happen. could someone print the pages out and see how to apply the other 5 axioms to try to get a result?

Wow that's a really complicated way to describe folding. I'm accustomed to book printing/binding but I think it's similar in newspaper printing.

Pages are generally printed in sections called signatures, with multiple flats making up each signature. There are numerous ways to lay out the flats, depending on which type of fold you need.

For a newspaper, I would imagine it is a work an turn, meaning text would be printed on one side, the paper turned over and using the same plates it would be ran through the press again (although modern presses do the same work by printing on both sides of the paper simultaneously using the same plates).

The paper is then cut in half and then folded so you end up with 2 copies of the same page. They're then folded so that the correct pages all face one another. It's very possible that facing pages (for example page 2 and page 3) are printed on completely different signatures and possibly completely different presses with a work and turn.

Ok, I realize that was completely OT but there is my brief lesson on folding.

i was thinking more of manipulating the pages from scariest...com to see if the black marks (the ones that spelt out the "we're going underground" message) highlight any other words that make sense.

interesting stuff about binding and printing tho

First Post... and I have something.
Picture in newspaper article traced to source.

First of all I would like to say hello. Very Happy I have been a Abrams fan for a while now and I love his viral marketing campaigns. I rediscovered this website recently and felt like I should offer up my findings.

When I saw the two newspaper pages the picture of the flowers stood out as conflicting with the style of the period (it is also the only full actual photograph in the paper) . I immediately cropped the image and tweaked the levels in photoshop. That gave me this:

I then began to look for a way see if this image had been used anywhere else on the net. Eventually I found the site www.tineye.com/
This site enabled my to search for all other instances of the photo. To my surprise it produced a match!

Here is the original photo:

The initial website link was to:

http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2009/10/024826.htm

The article on that site directs you to another source for the production of the photo:

http://nazret.com/blog/index.php?m=20090325

The article on that site directs you to a Reuters article.

This trail seems quite odd (probably not the key that opens the entire story up Locky! ), but I wanted to throw it out to everyone as I know that the images used in the viral campaign are seldom arbitrary. On the other hand, the marketing team might have simply stolen the image and cropped the woman out of it thinking that no one would care. Let me know what you guys (and gals Wink ) think about this!

hilarious, awesome, and yeah pretty safe to assume it's OOG, imo. It may very well be a stock image from a private collection, shared by that blogger who also used the image. Great detective work though! Very Happy

Message - Riddle
Message

no certainty if a live may be after us we go underground

I brought this to some people who are good with riddles and proposed that they went underground because the monster couldnt live without being exposed to some form of light.

Ex: The Bruli Pantry Garden, talks about "gardening in a cabinate with artifical sunlight"

When the train crashed, the monster saw moon light (Reflected sun light) and had energy to move and break out (wheel secured the seal)

Light and maybe eclipse behind Cooper, lots of stars in the ad...
Cross walk lights, Traffic Lights for the highway...

GET MY POINT YET???[/i]

Lens Crack
About the Lens Crack! =P

Not sure if it's been brought up already in a previous post, but does the crack on the lens on the Super 8 website mean anything?

Also, not sure if there are other messages being hidden around the red letters that flash up. There are definitely odd patterns, but can anybody slow them down to better see them?

- Ryan

Also, clicked on start new topic instead of post reply, so apologies to anybody who stumbles across this post as a thread. Let me know if there's any way I can delete it!

J. Smith

I realise that my contributions my not actually lead anywhere, but I noticed that the story next to the flower story is about some guy called J. Smith.

Welll, Will Smith played Agent J in Men in Black, the secret alien organization!

Hmmm, anyone like this as much as I do:

"And the survivors, as Chairman Khrushchev warned the Communist Chinese, "the survivors would envy the dead." For they would inherit a world so devastated by explosions and poison and fire that today we cannot even conceive of it's horrors."

I remember a piece from that D. Morris website, a scan of a document, that stated that he had once been visited by an ET being who had warned them of
Earth's fate, should testing of this sort continue. (or something along those lines, please correct me if I am wrong.)

I wish i never saw those letters at the end of the Super 8 trailer... too bad, i'm hooked again! Very Happy

By the way, the part in the newspaper about the deep outer space nuke test just caught my eyes, regarding we are talking about a movie involving area 51 and alien's ship crash site.

Erm
Sorry

I apologise in advance for this stupidly long post. I saved the RP site and opened up the DreamWeaver file as text. Can anyone make sense of any of it? Only thing I noticed was where it says "no override!" Funny...

[edit - not sure what it was, but it was causing too many problems on too many computers - kona]

That totally made my screen blow up but I'd say it's safe to rule that whole mess out as it contains parts of you own browser's stuff, search scripts etc.)
