[META] UGH I'M TIRED OF THE WHINING seriously guys, they put this up to play and have fun and hype their game. you dont have to play and i dont think anyone should be expecting anything in return. granted that this is an alternate reality game, bungie or whoever the gatekeepers were on this one did what they could to make it as interactive as possible. they looked up payphone numbers, hired actors, and made a whole story out of this. and how this ties into anything is still unapparent, leading me to think that this story is far from over, with some twists that will leave us satisfied. bungie told an amazing story with halo, which was a primary reason to bring most of the people here in the first place so i trust in what they are doing and that they will make this worthwhile. just chill on the rewards

Re: [META] UGH I'M TIRED OF THE WHINING Don't get me wrong... I'm glad that you're happy with the way things are going...
But wouldn't you think that opening up a new thread would just invite more of what you don't want?

no, i'm thinking that opening a new thread could make people see this in a new light. if i were to post this in some other thread, namely the bigger ones with 4 or 5 pages or responses, it could just be pushed aside and i thought that this topic was one that needed to be brought up.

I've seen lots of positive responses to the game! Even just today! All over the place!
People are also frustrated - that doesn't mean that they're stamping off in a huff and definitively saying they're not gonna play any more, no sir.
Take a closer look - people are really digging certain aspects of the game very, very much. The IRC channel really gets going with spec when a new .wav is unlocked. I think it's understandable that people are frustrated with the payphones - and by extension, it's informing their impressions of the entire game.
Because, if ya hadn't noticed, that really is the entire game right there. Well, OK, the Sleeping Princess is throwing us some very pretty bones, but right now those payphones and that big-ass 777 is staring us all in the face. It's on our minds, and we don't quite know what to do about it, since a lot of us have used up our available resources enhotenating as many axons as possible ...
Anyway, I think there's some crankiness out there, but I don't think it's unjustified, and I also think there's lots of enjoyment, too.

It's not likely that I will be able to enhotenate any axons, so instead, I focus my efforts on the other aspects of the game. Understanding the .wav files, and trying to connect what bits of story we have together. I am actually somewhat excited about the way the game is going, but it really would be cool if they would put some axons closer to me. If they just gave me one phone, near my house, and called it once every two minutes, I would just camp there and get us to 777 all by myself. But since they won't do that, I won't let it get me down, I'll just help in other ways. I think alot of people are missing what other things they can do, and seeing the payphones as excluding them from the game. There are many ways to help, so do what you can and have fun. And if I was old enough to drink krystyn, mine would probably be empty.

I gotta agree w/ Krystyn on this. While I must admit that I've found myself getting a little impatient, I realize that most of my impatience springs from my expectations about the whole thing.
I'm lovin' the content we're getting. It's not only very well produced, it's well written and well-acted, imo. So, even though it may not be popular, I'm trying to remain patient.
You gotta admit, though, the irony of having us running around doing what just amounts to busy work. Busy like bees...........

Is there something else we can do? For those of us who are unable to help with the phones is there any way I wonder that we can get Melissa to contact different phones?
Instead of sitting here thinking I cant get to some phone or another, maybe we should be trying to influence her contact locations. After all if she *really* wants to get in touch with her crew wouldn't she be susceptible to contacting them where they are?
My thinking is that maybe we should pretend to be one of her crew, and make up some story about being injured in the crash and giving her some co-ords and a payphone number?
We could also include additional info garnered from conversation snippets, which only Melissa and the crew member would know.
Essentially I think we should be proactive about this and initiate some interaction.

Why can't we ask her to send out emails to us? That would be a lot more convenient I think...

We have no way of getting in contact with Melissa as of yet. That might change after we get all 777 axons hot. But I wouldn't really worry about that stuff anyways, we are getting very close, and it seems reasonable to assume this next weeks axons are going to be the last.

It's true that we have, as yet, no way to contact Melissa directly. However, at least one person has been successful in getting Melissa to call a particular pay phone, and that technique could theoretically be duplicated. It won't guarantee that you'll get a call, but it may well increase the odds:
(1) Find lots of pay phones in your area that accept incoming calls.
(2) Send a message to http://www.payphone-directory.org , adding those pay phone numbers to the complete list.
Melissa (just like the PMs) can't actually run all over the country looking for pay phones. She's stuck with the numbers she can reach through her "network tentacle." So if you put more local pay phone numbers where she can reach them, it might give her a better chance to pick one of them and call you.
(Note that this could be entirely redundant now, because I have a feeling we'll hit the magic 777 this week with this latest list of coordinates, which hopefully will mean the end of the pay phones and the beginning of something else.)

I am not so sure we haven't influenced the PMs to put payphones where we are located. When the axons first started Montana only had one axon in Billings. then for round two they added Three more in western montana (Where I am). I believe this may be in some part due to my sending transcripts of the wav files to Sp and Dana along with encouraging words to both. I think it is easy for the PMs to use people who are playing the game and just happen to stand out in some way as potential axon locations. Heck they even changed the candidate axon when the Vegas team had so much trouble trying to find it.
All this beig said, there is a lot of places to cover all over the US so if some ares don't get axons it is probably not intentional. Anyway help out as you can and keep hope alive

And there were no Albuquerque, or even New Mexico axons until I started griping that I could only watch the game. Now I've got ten, all in the areas I frequent. Makes sense, no?
