The cake is (a lie) phoney!

The problem is if they let them expire, the numbers are gone and they can't top them up again and call their operatives. Honestly had I gotten one I would've put a little money on it myself, just to have a spare phone to mess around with. If the phone does expire, you may have to wait at least 90 days total if you wanted to re-activate it yourself. Otherwise, it's a brick.

On a side note, V-Mo just introduced some really good monthly plans.

Don't add money before the 90 days run out. I'm sure someone has, but until the phone lapses, if you add funds (or want to do anything else with the phone that requires the account PIN) you're just sorta "renting" the phone number. If you have any problems you can't call customer service, can't access the online account, nothing.

Maybe that's all there is for them, after all disposable phones are cheaper than ever. What happens next here might involve new phones, which we find in some ingenious way or method.

In about 72 hours this question will answer itself anyway, and I won't be mad if we're stuck with a pre-paid phone as a memento for the effort.

It *is* always possible that they'll just contact people in the game via our contact info from the Flynn Lives profile page... I know I've got my address, email, & phone number listed...

Remember, too, that during the Why So Serious? viral the phones would sometimes be dormant for weeks or months between "missions." If I remember right, they only used the phones 2-3 times from their distribution to the end of the game almost a year later. They even handed out more as the game went along.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but they are able to add time to the phones REMOTELY without physically having the phone, even if the time has lapsed. Net10 (which I have for my personal use), Virgin Mobile, etc... all have web interfaces where you can add time to them without physically having the phone in your hand. All you need is the phone or account number, which they most certainly have.

So if they do come around to needing the phones and they've expired, I'm sure they can simply add whatever time they need and put them to use once again.

Yeah, it's been mentioned. I wonder who would've mentioned it?
Wink

When referring to expired, there's expired minutes and there's expired accounts. If the minutes expire (or one uses them all up) then you can just add balance to the phone. If the account expires (no balance or activity before the last top up expiration date), then the phone would have to be reactivated with a whole new number. The former would be a far easier process for the PMs, the latter a much more tedious one. For the latter they would have to have kept record of the phone's ESN (for the V-Mo phones) so they could have them reactivated - however, if the phone also requires programming* (and most CDMA V-Mo phones would after the initial activation) they'd literally have to contact the player some other way and give instructions of how to reactivate the phone.

Considering all of that, if the phone doesn't get balance added and expiration extended, I don't think they'll bother to use them again.

*[Many newer V-Mo phones do 'OTA' (Over The Air) programming, but this requires the user to enter a code to invoke it on a phone that's already been activated before. If the code is entered incorrectly or too many times, the phone can become a brick. I don't think the PMs want to deal with that.]

Drop Phone Update

Just got my phone topped up by someone not me! $10 was just added onto the phone at 5:16 PM Central.

That's it for now!
