Hello, all.

I've been dormant on ARGs since the days of ilovebees and ourcolony. I've got a lot more time on my hands now so on the advice of a friend and fellow unfiction member, I joined and because of my close proximity to the originating point (allegedly) of Aguatero and OWOP, I figured this would be a good one to get back in the game with. It also seems that effective immediately, I am an Operator. I have not received any more info as of yet.

In another game (Sarah) the lines from a song were used as code placeholders for bits of information that they didn't want to release yet in the game. Seems an odd place to put them, but might be worth keeping an eye on.

So maybe the scandal over the plagiarized answers to the President might have been a game mechanic to give employees a chance to vote for the President? Regardless, I say vote for Swift...

So, should we post the emails from Aguatero here as normal? If there is a mole from Aguatero on the board then it would be bad, but I guess if there was a mole we'd all be terminated anyway...

Got my email, and my login as well. I've changed my nickname to ironnikki, to avoid confusion.

In any case, I once played a game where the players were split between sides, and things didn't end too well. This board is supposed to be a sort of "safe haven" for us to discuss things without fear of it affecting the flow of the game. I think that witholding information can only hurt us.

Opinions?

I couldn't agree more ironnikki. I think what we had here was a player copypastaing answers in exactly the one place where a copypasta answer was the wrong thing to do, or at least not at optimal thing to do. I'm not sure we could have easily predicted that. So far, I see absolutely no reason to see this as a competition or to not share information quite freely.

I agree with the sharing of info between "sides" if that's what this comes to.

Also, I got an email from Lucinda saying the other person 1) hadn't re-submitted answers, and then a new one saying 2) they have responded, and it looks like I'm just supposed to wait as of now.

I have two feelings about this. 1) the "plagiarized" info was some sort of set up - which could show us there is some sort of leak in the company (pardon my pun). Meaning, nobody really did plagiarize me. 2) if someone did have the same answers, it was an honest mistake.

Somebody also made a comment early that some of this stuff is real world because it's an awareness thing - I had that feeling too, but I don't know. If they're "hiring" people from internet alone, it probably is primarily an ARG with this as backdrop; and I'm down for SWAG, especially if I'm President of Community and Environmental Affairs‏ Razz

I'll keep you guys posted if I'm "hired" because I'd sure hope not to get left out of any position at this point in the game.

Interesting about the site too - I need to check that out yet.

[Edit] Did you notice the button on the main page for Team Member Center has a place for "Search for Pres of Comm & Env Affairs" That's new. Can anyone log in using their ID/Password and check that out?

From the new page:

Quote:
Search for President of Community and Environmental Affairs

We're excited to have five fantastic candidates for the position of president of community and environmental affairs.

The job description of the position is here:

Aguatero Industries is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to perform outreach to communities and environmental groups. The ideal candidate has at least a bachelor's degree, though higher degrees are recommended. Ideally, the candidate's course of study is environmental science and/or public relations/communication studies. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with large groups of people, including those against Aguatero Industries' position and operations. The candidate should possess excellent speaking and writing skills.

The selected candidate will also create effective social media campaigns for Aguatero Industries and write for the Aguatero Industries website, working under our director of public relations.
We interviewed each candidate with six questions–the same for each of them. Below are their responses. After carefully evaluating each candidate's qualifications and opinions, choose the person you believe will fit best at Aguatero Industries for this position. None of the responses below has been edited.

Candidate #1

(1) Does the United States waste too much water?

The United States can be much wiser about how it uses this precious resource.
(2) You're in the desert and don't have enough water. Your friend has enough water in his bag for one of you to make it to safety. What do you do?

Clearly I need to take the water and tell the friend where to get shelter. I will return to safety and return with enough water and rescue personnel to guide us both to safety. Furthermore, as a Presidential-level officer for a major water corporation, how unseemly would it be to die of thirst!
(3) Rachel Carson: friend or foe?

Rachel Carson had a particular message that was very prescient for her time. However, not only has the political climate changed, but the environment itself has changed. The environmental movement as it was then is not what is needed now. It is time for the environmental movement to catch up to the financial and business realities or the 21st century.
(4) Some predict our planet will be unable to reach its demand for water in a few decades. How do you respond to that?

Water is a finite resource. This has not been a secret right from the beginning. If individuals are concerned about how much water will be available in the future should consider working with a company like Aguatero. If there isn't enough water to go around, then Aguatero is nicely positioned to maximize profits and earn goodwill amongst a thirsty and loyal populace.
(5) A contaminant enters the water supply, and people are calling in concerned. What do you do?

The first step is to speak with the guys in the lab and see if there is indeed a contaminant in the water that we should be concerned about. If there is something in the water, then I engage the media to let the customer base know that there is indeed something in the water and that it is essentially harmless (regardless of actual risk). Furthermore the top scientists at Aguatero are releasing an additive that will eliminate the risk of this contaminant and that additive will be available shortly. In the man time, enjoy some bottled Aguatero water.
(6) You're walking along the beach and see a large, old sea turtle stuck on its back shell. It's struggling to move. Why aren't you helping?

I am firmly of the opinion that if nature intended to select that turtle, then it wouldn't be stuck on it's back. That is, it would have evolved a way to get out of it's current predicament.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Candidate #2

(1) Does the United States waste too much water?

I believe the phrase "waste too much water" to be too harsh. Over the last several decades, the United States has made great improvements in water conservation and continues improving to this day. Improving water conservation is a constant goal – all humans should always strive for better water conservation. I believe Americans want to conserve water, but they need to be educated on how to best accomplish that goal. Companies like Aguatero are meeting this need and educating people on water conservation. So, while I think the United States should continue to improve its water conservation efforts, it should also be noted how far the Untied States has come in water conservation.
(2) You're in the desert and don't have enough water. Your friend has enough water in his bag for one of you to make it to safety. What do you do?

While seemingly a wasteland, the desert can provide enough water for one or two people for a small amount of time. By utilizing appropriate water conservation and basic survival tactics, we should both be able to reach safety. I would propose we both set out for safety using a set of water conservation and survival guidelines. If the guidelines fail at any time, the plan will be altered accordingly.
(3) Rachel Carson: friend or foe?

Rachel Carson was a friend of current water industries that are concerned with water purification and conservation, such as Aguatero. Rachel Carson's efforts helped purify water contaminated by DDT and chemical companies. Since water companies like Aguatero spend as much money and time as necessary to provide purified water to people, it is in water companies' best interest to keep water as clean as possible to mitigate costs associated with water purification. Aguatero wants people to have access to clean water, and Aguatero cannot provide this access if the water has been irrevocably contaminated by other companies. Therefore, Rachel Carson unwittingly became an advocate for companies like Aguatero.
(4) Some predict our planet will be unable to reach its demand for water in a few decades. How do you respond to that?

I have heard the same thing being said about oil, food, and wood. There are many people and organizations who utilize scare tactics rather than education to make their point. While it is possible the need for water will exceed our supply of water in the distant future, this is likely only if the world ignores the importance of water conservation. Companies like Aguatero are not ignoring the importance of water conservation and are actively teaching people how to conserve water. If people continue to take personal responsibility for their water consumption and use and if companies like Aguatero continue to educate people, then there should be enough clean water for us all.
(5) A contaminant enters the water supply, and people are calling in concerned. What do you do?

I would first research the issue; in the past, contaminants often enter water sources because of the actions of someone outside the water company, such as an individual dumping household chemicals into a water source. If the careless actions of someone else created the issue, it would be a wonderful opportunity to educate the community about the dangers of dumping. I would then create a short, written response to the situation and begin disseminating the response through the company (so employees will be informed of the company's stance), any additional phone inquiries, the Aguatero website, and the local media (if necessary). The response would assure the community that Aguatero not only is aware of the situation but that Aguatero has a plan of action to solve the current issue and prevent further issues from arising in the future.
(6) You're walking along the beach and see a large, old sea turtle stuck on its back shell. It's struggling to move. Why aren't you helping?

I am not helping the turtle because I do not fully understand the ramifications of my action. When farmers sprayed their fields with DDT, they believed they were performing a good deed by producing more edible food. However, they did not understand how DDT could seep into nearby ponds and rivers and destroy the local ecology. I may believe I am performing a good deed by turning the turtle over, but without knowing all the effects of my action, I may in fact be doing more harm than good. Also, turtles are wild animals with a strong bite; if the animal is scared, it is more likely to attack anything that approaches it. It is in my personal best interest and the best interest of the wildlife to contact the local wildlife authorities, who should have the knowledge and tools necessary to appropriately handle the issue.
Candidate #3

(1) Does the United States waste too much water?

Maybe, but who don't do that?
(2) You're in the desert and don't have enough water. Your friend has enough water in his bag for one of you to make it to safety. What do you do?

We share the water, better to die togheter than live alone
(3) Rachel Carson: friend or foe?

I don't like politics
(4) Some predict our planet will be unable to reach its demand for water in a few decades. How do you respond to that?

We are organizing space missions to search for water in space.
(5) A contaminant enters the water supply, and people are calling in concerned. What do you do?

I tell them that a team of eco terrorists has infected the water supply.
(6) You're walking along the beach and see a large, old sea turtle stuck on its back shell. It's struggling to move. Why aren't you helping?

I help, i love turtles.
Candidate #4

(1) Does the United States waste too much water?

I think so, like in other rich countries where water is taken for granted. We ignore the fact that water has a value and a cost.
(2) You're in the desert and don't have enough water. Your friend has enough water in his bag for one of you to make it to safety. What do you do?

We share and try to find someway to recycle.
(3) Rachel Carson: friend or foe?

Must become a friend.
(4) Some predict our planet will be unable to reach its demand for water in a few decades. How do you respond to that?

There's some truth in this issue but we can adress it by stop wasting first and manage water sustainably to meet the demand.
(5) A contaminant enters the water supply, and people are calling in concerned. What do you do?

We face the crisis and stop the production to send a clear message to the people that we care about their health. We investigate and fix the problem. The key word is : Transparency.
(6) You're walking along the beach and see a large, old sea turtle stuck on its back shell. It's struggling to move. Why aren't you helping?

I don't because it could be intoxicated by the sea.
Candidate #5

(1) Does the United States waste too much water?

Absolutely. And it needs to stop. Running water is a privilege that is taken advantage of, and people need to be aware of using it more productively and efficiently.
(2) You're in the desert and don't have enough water. Your friend has enough water in his bag for one of you to make it to safety. What do you do?

I allow him to use what is needed first. But recycling is a sufficient option in the desert (there are survival methods for recycling water) to make sure we both are hydrated.
(3) Rachel Carson: friend or foe?

Definite friend if used correctly.
(4) Some predict our planet will be unable to reach its demand for water in a few decades. How do you respond to that?

Efficient use of our water supply is essential for our growth as a company, and a world. If we can produce and sell a method that uses the over 70% of water on Earth to people who need it, there's no telling where we can go.
(5) A contaminant enters the water supply, and people are calling in concerned. What do you do?

Public relations is tight rope. It's important to keep the masses at bay by letting them know what they need to know. We must make sure people are safe, and trust us enough to continue purchasing our product.
(6) You're walking along the beach and see a large, old sea turtle stuck on its back shell. It's struggling to move. Why aren't you helping?

If it's old, it may be time for it to go. Natural Selection.

So who's each candidate? I'd like to know who it is before I make my selection.

To be fair, maybe we shouldn't tell who each is. But for the sake of info - and my answers were already posted to this board -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm number 5. And I knew Rachel Carson is dead.... time travel anyone? I would be Pres of a major corporation.
