I return like something that is returning. And is late to the party.

I do find the implied "no camera" rule in Alex's (and Amy's?) household interesting. Perhaps Slendy operates on a "out of sight, out of mind" principle? As in, he's only visible to anyone when he's being recorded on a camera; thus, if you stay away from cameras, he can't harm you. Perhaps with an addendum that if you're thinking of him, he's still there.

So the only way to be completely safe from him is to not know of him. Of course, I like the idea that Mr. Thin's presence causes paranoia, which seems to make people starting recording themselves; so he appears more, they becomes more paranoid...

@Seraphic Adonis

But what about Entry #2? He says that he saw Slendy under the street light, and he didn't catch him on camera?

Aha, this occurred to me just now. It's why I checked the thread, in fact XD;

Now, I would like to wonder whether Entry #2 came before or after Entry #17 (wherein the crew at large first see Slendy); after all, Alex could have been musing about the man when he saw him. Or he could have been recording but we didn't see the tape.

But really, the "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" theory doesn't take #2 into account. My mistake~

Just a little theory on the skull mask here, to me, it doesn't really look like distortion, it looks more like a sack, or a loose pullover mask, with the top hanging over his/her/its head.

Just an observation.

(Red is mask/sack outline, obviously)

You know, I always thought there was something... off with that mask. You're right. It looks like somebody painted a mask on a paper bag...

Hey, it's my first post, look at that!

Dr. Disco, I always felt that the image of Skully was taken from a reflection doorknob. the distortion of the face and the circle shape always seemed to scream doorknob to me. and the golden outline, that could just be a wall in the background. The whole clip seems "gold shifted" to me.

But it's a theory, who knows.

I think that I'm still sticking with footage caught through a peep-hole somehow. I don't know how it works for video cameras, but when you physically look through a peep-hole you do get the odd fish-eye distortion that we see with Skully and the background. The black semi-circle around Masky suggests the depth of a door, and the paler colour filling the rest of the frame could be the door itself. It also looks like they filmed the segment with Skully, then put it on a TV, then filmed the TV while it was playing... just the weird pixelation there seems very much like it's been run through that or a TV-like filter.

The puff of black at the top of the mask seems like hair -- either shorter than Masky's because this was shot earlier, when Tim had short hair, or from a different person altogether -- and the background suggests a veranda to me much like the one that we see Slender Man standing at in Entry #1. Seeing as how this tape 'just showed up' I wouldn't be surprised if there was footage old enough to suggest that Alex was still living in his old house.

The thing that steers me away from peephole though, is that you can only see part of the other side. Peepholes don't just function so that only the corner is visible. And it can't be "outside" because why would the back be so dark while the front is so brightly lit. (I don't want to hear PORCH LIGHTS DUH, because you'd still see some surrounding area from that.) This leads me to think either something is blocking it, or was taking out of the video.

I'm not sure that I understand what you're getting at. A porchlight could account for the paler part of the background within the circle. The large black space next to the Skully mask could easily be explained by the distortion (and I don't mean that in the Slendy-sense, I mean that in the sense that a concave shape is refracting light just so,) seen because the camera held up to the peep-hole is not held up at quite the right angle to see everything outside. What you're perceiving as background darkness is actually extreme foreground, in that we're seeing the inside of the peephole itself. It's just like when you look through binoculars or a sight: if you don't look through them just so, the light refracts in a way that causes you to see the inside of the binoculars themselves!

Alright, good point.

Also, if this was a plant, TTA had before used a filter on a video where it made the shadowed area of things completely black.

On the other hand, we see the blown out shadows showing up on Alex's film at... #13, I think? Right after the video skips ahead a bit. I think that the pumped up contrast might be one of TTA's things, however it's not his signature. He's stealing what Alex had set up to begin with, it would seem.

....Jesu Christe

Just noticed, what if it's not SUPPOSED to be a peep-hole.

Here, stand back a bit and ignore the bag/mask. What does it look like?

An eye? You're on the right track.

Quick, mentally reference TV-tropes and instances of literary fiction featuring eyes.

Eyes are usually used as a window to the soul and/or true personality of a person.

Ergo, this must be how Alex feels he represents himelf to the world.

Shocked oooorr.... Maybe I'm just a sick, overworked actor on a sleep-deprived, asprin-fueld rant.

Yeah, let's stick with that....

That's just horribly artsy and pretentious enough to make a certain kind of sense! I still think that having the video as a plant makes more sense in the long run, but if you wanted Alex to be TTA, that seems about equally as trite as his early Marble Hornets script.

I hope that we get to see some time in the next few months if Alex was forced into a trap or if he was the one making calls all along!

I was just wondering yesterday if that was supposed to be an eye. However, it didn't make sense to me. So it goes to say that you weren't alone in your line of thinking making this more plausible.
